Human Disobedience

3Now the snake was the most cunning animal that the LORD God had made. The snake asked the woman, "Did God really tell you not to eat fruit from any tree in the garden?"H5175H1961H6175H2416H7704H3068H430H6213H559H802H637H430H559H398H6086H1588
2"We may eat the fruit of any tree in the garden," the woman answered,H802H559H5175H398H6529H6086H1588
3"except the tree in the middle of it. God told us not to eat the fruit of that tree or even touch it; if we do, we will die."H6529H6086H8432H1588H430H559H398H5060H6435H4191
4The snake replied, "That's not true; you will not die.H5175H559H802H4191H4191
5God said that because he knows that when you eat it, you will be like God and know what is good and what is bad."H430H3045H3117H398H5869H6491H430H3045H2896H7451
6The woman saw how beautiful the tree was and how good its fruit would be to eat, and she thought how wonderful it would be to become wise. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, and he also ate it.H802H7200H6086H2896H3978H1931H8378H5869H6086H2530H7919H3947H6529H398H5414H1571H376H398
7As soon as they had eaten it, they were given understanding and realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and covered themselves.H5869H8147H6491H1992H3045H5903H8609H8384H5929H8609H6213H2290
8That evening they heard the LORD God walking in the garden, and they hid from him among the trees.H8085H6963H3068H430H1980H1588H7307H3117H120H802H2244H6440H3068H430H8432H6086H1588
9But the LORD God called out to the man, "Where are you?"H3068H430H7121H120H559H335
10He answered, "I heard you in the garden; I was afraid and hid from you, because I was naked."H559H8085H6963H1588H3372H595H5903H2244
11"Who told you that you were naked?" God asked. "Did you eat the fruit that I told you not to eat?"H559H4310H5046H5903H398H6086H6680H1115H398
12The man answered, "The woman you put here with me gave me the fruit, and I ate it."H120H559H802H5414H5978H1931H5414H6086H398
13The LORD God asked the woman, "Why did you do this?" She replied, "The snake tricked me into eating it."H3068H430H559H802H6213H802H559H5175H5377H398

God Pronounces Judgment

14Then the LORD God said to the snake, "You will be punished for this; you alone of all the animals must bear this curse: From now on you will crawl on your belly, and you will have to eat dust as long as you live.H3068H430H559H5175H859H6213H779H929H2416H7704H1512H3212H6083H398H3117H2416
15I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite her offspring's heel."H7896H342H802H2233H2233H7779H7218H7779H6119
16And he said to the woman, "I will increase your trouble in pregnancy and your pain in giving birth. In spite of this, you will still have desire for your husband, yet you will be subject to him."H802H559H7235H7235H6093H2032H6089H3205H1121H8669H376H4910
17And he said to the man, "You listened to your wife and ate the fruit which I told you not to eat. Because of what you have done, the ground will be under a curse. You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce enough food for you.H121H559H8085H6963H802H398H6086H834H6680H559H398H779H127H6093H398H3605H3117H2416
18It will produce weeds and thorns, and you will have to eat wild plants.H6975H1863H6779H398H6212H7704
19You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil produce anything, until you go back to the soil from which you were formed. You were made from soil, and you will become soil again."H2188H639H398H3899H5704H7725H127H3947H6083H859H6083H7725
20Adam named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all human beings.H120H7121H802H8034H2332H517H2416
21And the LORD God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and his wife, and he clothed them.H120H802H3068H430H6213H3801H5785H3847

Adam and Eve Are Sent Out of the Garden

22Then the LORD God said, "Now these human beings have become like one of us and have knowledge of what is good and what is bad. They must not be allowed to take fruit from the tree that gives life, eat it, and live forever."H3068H430H559H2005H120H259H3045H2896H7451H7971H3027H3947H6086H2416H398H2425H5769
23So the LORD God sent them out of the Garden of Eden and made them cultivate the soil from which they had been formed.H3068H430H7971H1588H5731H5647H127H3947
24Then at the east side of the garden he put living creatures and a flaming sword which turned in all directions. This was to keep anyone from coming near the tree that gives life.H1644H120H7931H6924H1588H5731H3742H3858H2719H2015H8104H1870H6086H2416
