The Temptation and Fall

3Now the serpent was more clever than any animal of the field that the LORD God had made. The serpent said to the woman, "Has God actually said, 'You are not to eat from any tree of the garden'?"H5175H1961H6175H2416H7704H3068H430H6213H559H802H637H430H559H398H6086H1588
2The woman answered the serpent, "We may eat from the trees of the garden,H802H559H5175H398H6529H6086H1588
3but as for the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You are not to eat from it, nor are you to touch it, or you will die.'"H6529H6086H8432H1588H430H559H398H5060H6435H4191
4Then the serpent said to the woman, "You certainly will not die!H5175H559H802H4191H4191
5Even God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will become like God, knowing good and evil."H430H3045H3117H398H5869H6491H430H3045H2896H7451
6When the woman saw that the tree produced good food, was attractive in appearance, and was desirable for making one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate it. Then she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate some, too.H802H7200H6086H2896H3978H1931H8378H5869H6086H2530H7919H3947H6529H398H5414H1571H376H398
7As a result, the eyes of both of them were opened, and they became aware that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.H5869H8147H6491H1992H3045H5903H8609H8384H5929H8609H6213H2290
8WhentheyheardthevoiceoftheLORD God as he was walking in the garden during the breeze of the day, the man and his wife concealed themselves among the trees of the garden, hiding from the presence of the LORD God.H8085H6963H3068H430H1980H1588H7307H3117H120H802H2244H6440H3068H430H8432H6086H1588
9So the LORD God called out to the man, asking him, "Where are you?"H3068H430H7121H120H559H335
10The man answered, "I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid from you."H559H8085H6963H1588H3372H595H5903H2244
11"Who told you that you are naked?" God asked. "Did you eat fruit from the tree that I commanded you not to eat?"H559H4310H5046H5903H398H6086H6680H1115H398
12The man answered, "The woman whom you provided for me gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate some of it."H120H559H802H5414H5978H1931H5414H6086H398
13Then the LORD God asked the woman, "What did you do?" The woman answered, "The serpent misled me, so I ate."H3068H430H559H802H6213H802H559H5175H5377H398

The Penalty of Sin

14The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you are more cursed than all the livestock, and more than all the wild animals. You will crawl on your belly and eat dust as long as you live.H3068H430H559H5175H859H6213H779H929H2416H7704H1512H3212H6083H398H3117H2416
15"I will place hostility between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike you on the head, and you will strike him on the heel."H7896H342H802H2233H2233H7779H7218H7779H6119
16He said to the woman, "I will greatly increase the pain of your labor during childbirth; it will be painful for you to bear children. "Your trust turns toward your husband, yet he will dominate you."H802H559H7235H7235H6093H2032H6089H3205H1121H8669H376H4910
17He said to the man, "Because you have listened to what your wife said, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat from it,' cursed is the ground because of you. You will eat from it through pain-filled labor for the rest of your life.H121H559H8085H6963H802H398H6086H834H6680H559H398H779H127H6093H398H3605H3117H2416
18It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants from the meadows.H6975H1863H6779H398H6212H7704
19You will eat food by the sweat of your brow until you are buried in the ground, because you were taken from it. You are made from dust and you will return to dust."3H2188H639H398H3899H5704H7725H127H3947H6083H859H6083H7725
20Now Adam had named his wife "Eve," because she was to become the mother of everyone who was living.H120H7121H802H8034H2332H517H2416
21The LORD God fashioned garments from animal skins for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.320H120H802H3068H430H6213H3801H5785H3847
22Later, the LORD God said, "See, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, so he won't reach out, also take from the tree of life, eat, and then live forever?"H3068H430H559H2005H120H259H3045H2896H7451H7971H3027H3947H6086H2416H398H2425H5769
23therefore the LORD God expelled the man from the garden of Eden so he would work the ground from which he had been taken.H3068H430H7971H1588H5731H5647H127H3947
24After he had expelled the man, the LORD God placed winged angels at the eastern end of the garden of Eden, along with a fiery whirling sword, to prevent access to the tree of life.3H1644H120H7931H6924H1588H5731H3742H3858H2719H2015H8104H1870H6086H2416
