The Temptation and the Fall

3Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You can't eat from any tree in the garden'?"H5175H1961H6175H2416H7704H3068H430H6213H559H802H637H430H559H398H6086H1588
2The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit from the trees in the garden.H802H559H5175H398H6529H6086H1588
3But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, 'You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.'"H6529H6086H8432H1588H430H559H398H5060H6435H4191
4"No! You will not die," the serpent said to the woman.H5175H559H802H4191H4191
5"In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."H430H3045H3117H398H5869H6491H430H3045H2896H7451
6Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate [it]; she also gave [some] to her husband, [who was] with her, and he ate [it].H802H7200H6086H2896H3978H1931H8378H5869H6086H2530H7919H3947H6529H398H5414H1571H376H398
7Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.H5869H8147H6491H1992H3045H5903H8609H8384H5929H8609H6213H2290

Sin’s Consequences

8Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid themselves from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.H8085H6963H3068H430H1980H1588H7307H3117H120H802H2244H6440H3068H430H8432H6086H1588
9So the LORD God called out to the man and said to him, "Where are you?"H3068H430H7121H120H559H335
10And he said, "I heard You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid."H559H8085H6963H1588H3372H595H5903H2244
11Then He asked, "Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I had commanded you not to eat from?"H559H4310H5046H5903H398H6086H6680H1115H398
12Then the man replied, "The woman You gave to be with me— she gave me [some fruit] from the tree, and I ate."H120H559H802H5414H5978H1931H5414H6086H398
13So the LORD God asked the woman, "What is this you have done?" And the woman said, "It was the serpent. He deceived me, and I ate."H3068H430H559H802H6213H802H559H5175H5377H398
14Then the LORD God said to the serpent: Because you have done this, you are cursed more than any livestock and more than any wild animal. You will move on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life.H3068H430H559H5175H859H6213H779H929H2416H7704H1512H3212H6083H398H3117H2416
15I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.H7896H342H802H2233H2233H7779H7218H7779H6119
16He said to the woman: I will intensify your labor pains; you will bear children in anguish. Your desire will be for your husband, yet he will dominate you.H802H559H7235H7235H6093H2032H6089H3205H1121H8669H376H4910
17And He said to Adam, "Because you listened to your wife's voice and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'Do not eat from it': The ground is cursed because of you. You will eat from it by means of painful labor all the days of your life.H121H559H8085H6963H802H398H6086H834H6680H559H398H779H127H6093H398H3605H3117H2416
18It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.H6975H1863H6779H398H6212H7704
19You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust."H2188H639H398H3899H5704H7725H127H3947H6083H859H6083H7725
20Adam named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all the living.H120H7121H802H8034H2332H517H2416
21The LORD God made clothing out of skins for Adam and his wife, and He clothed them.H120H802H3068H430H6213H3801H5785H3847
22The LORD God said, "Since man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil, he must not reach out, and also take from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever."H3068H430H559H2005H120H259H3045H2896H7451H7971H3027H3947H6086H2416H398H2425H5769
23So the LORD God sent him away from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.H3068H430H7971H1588H5731H5647H127H3947
24He drove man out, and east of the garden of Eden He stationed cherubim with a flaming, whirling sword to guard the way to the tree of life.H1644H120H7931H6924H1588H5731H3742H3858H2719H2015H8104H1870H6086H2416
