Pharaoh’s Dreams

41Then it came to pass, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh had a dream; and behold, he stood by the river.H7093H3117H8141H6547H2492H5975H2975 2Suddenly there came up out of the river seven cows, fine looking and fat; and they fed in the meadow.H5927H2975H7651H3303H4758H6510H1277H1320H7462H260 3Then behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ugly and gaunt, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river.H7651H312H6510H5927H310H2975H7451H4758H1851H1320H5975H681H6510H8193H2975 4And the ugly and gaunt cows ate up the seven fine looking and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.H7451H4758H1851H1320H6510H398H7651H3303H4758H1277H6510H6547H3364 5He slept and dreamed a second time; and suddenly seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, plump and good.H3462H2492H8145H7651H7641H5927H259H7070H1277H2896 6Then behold, seven thin heads, blighted by the east wind, sprang up after them.H7651H1851H7641H7710H6921H6779H310 7And the seven thin heads devoured the seven plump and full heads. So Pharaoh awoke, and indeed, it was a dream.H1851H7641H1104H7651H1277H4392H7641H6547H3364H2472 8Now it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. And Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh.H1242H7307H6470H7971H7121H2748H4714H2450H6547H5608H2472H6622H6547 9Then the chief butler spoke to Pharaoh, saying: "I remember my faults this day.H1696H8269H8248H6547H559H2142H2399H3117 10"When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker,H6547H7107H5650H5414H4929H8269H2876H1004H8269H644 11"we each had a dream in one night, he and I. Each of us dreamed according to the interpretation of his own dream.H2492H2472H259H3915H2492H376H6623H2472 12"Now there was a young Hebrew man with us there, a servant of the captain of the guard. And we told him, and he interpreted our dreams for us; to each man he interpreted according to his own dream.H5288H5680H5650H8269H2876H5608H6622H2472H376H2472H6622 13"And it came to pass, just as he interpreted for us, so it happened. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him."H6622H7725H3653H8518 14Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh.H6547H7971H7121H3130H7323H953H1548H2498H8071H935H6547 15And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it."H6547H559H3130H2492H2472H6622H8085H559H8085H2472H6622 16So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, "It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace."H3130H6030H6547H559H1107H430H6030H6547H6030H7965 17Then Pharaoh said to Joseph: "Behold, in my dream I stood on the bank of the river.H6547H1696H3130H2472H5975H8193H2975 18"Suddenly seven cows came up out of the river, fine looking and fat; and they fed in the meadow.H5927H2975H7651H6510H1277H1320H3303H8389H7462H260 19"Then behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ugly and gaunt, such ugliness as I have never seen in all the land of Egypt.H7651H312H6510H5927H310H1803H3966H7451H8389H7534H1320H2007H3808H7200H776H4714H7455 20"And the gaunt and ugly cows ate up the first seven, the fat cows.H7534H7451H6510H398H7223H7651H1277H6510 21"When they had eaten them up, no one would have known that they had eaten them, for they were just as ugly as at the beginning. So I awoke.H935H7130H3045H935H7130H4758H7451H8462H3364 22"Also I saw in my dream, and suddenly seven heads came up on one stalk, full and good.H7200H2472H7651H7641H5927H259H7070H4392H2896 23"Then behold, seven heads, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprang up after them.H7651H7641H6798H1851H7710H6921H6779H310 24"And the thin heads devoured the seven good heads. So I told this to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me."H1851H7641H1104H7651H2896H7641H559H2748H5046 25Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do:H3130H559H6547H2472H6547H259H430H5046H6547H6213 26"The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads are seven years; the dreams are one.H7651H2896H6510H7651H8141H7651H2896H7641H7651H8141H2472H259 27"And the seven thin and ugly cows which came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty heads blighted by the east wind are seven years of famine.H7651H7534H7451H6510H5927H310H7651H8141H7651H7386H7641H7710H6921H7651H8141H7458 28"This is the thing which I have spoken to Pharaoh. God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.H1697H1696H6547H430H6213H7200H6547 29"Indeed seven years of great plenty will come throughout all the land of Egypt;H935H7651H8141H1419H7647H776H4714 30"but after them seven years of famine will arise, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine will deplete the land.H6965H310H7651H8141H7458H7647H7911H776H4714H7458H3615H776 31"So the plenty will not be known in the land because of the famine following, for it will be very severe.H7647H3045H776H6440H7458H310H3651H3966H3515 32"And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.H2472H8138H6547H6471H1697H3559H5973H430H430H4116H6213 33"Now therefore, let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.H6547H7200H376H995H2450H7896H776H4714 34"Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.H6547H6213H6485H6496H776H2567H776H4714H7651H7647H8141 35"And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.H6908H400H2896H8141H935H6651H1250H3027H6547H8104H400H5892 36"Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine."H400H6487H776H7651H8141H7458H776H4714H776H3772H7458

Joseph’s Rise to Power

37So the advice was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.H1697H3190H5869H6547H5869H5650 38And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?"H6547H559H5650H4672H2088H376H834H7307H430 39Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.H6547H559H3130H310H430H3045H995H2450 40"You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you."H1961H1004H6310H5971H5401H3678H1431 41And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt."H6547H559H3130H7200H5414H776H4714 42Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph's hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.H6547H5493H2885H3027H5414H3130H3027H3847H899H8336H7760H2091H7242H6677 43And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, "Bow the knee!" So he set him over all the land of Egypt.H7392H4932H4818H7121H6440H86H5414H776H4714 44Pharaoh also said to Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt."H6547H559H3130H6547H1107H376H7311H3027H7272H776H4714 45And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-Paaneah. And he gave him as a wife Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On. So Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.H6547H7121H3130H8034H6847H5414H802H621H1323H6319H3548H204H3130H3318H776H4714 46Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.H3130H7970H8141H1121H5975H6440H6547H4428H4714H3130H3318H6440H6547H5674H776H4714 47Now in the seven plentiful years the ground brought forth abundantly.H7651H7647H8141H776H6213H7062 48So he gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities; he laid up in every city the food of the fields which surrounded them.H6908H400H7651H8141H776H4714H5414H400H5892H400H7704H5439H5892H5414H8432 49Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped counting, for it was immeasurable.H3130H6651H1250H2344H3220H3966H7235H2308H5608H369H4557 50And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him.H3130H3205H8147H1121H8141H7458H935H621H1323H6319H3548H204H3205 51Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: "For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house."H3130H7121H8034H1060H4519H430H5382H5999H1H1004 52And the name of the second he called Ephraim: "For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction."H8034H8145H7121H669H430H6509H776H6040 53Then the seven years of plenty which were in the land of Egypt ended,H7651H8141H7647H776H4714H3615 54and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. The famine was in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.H7651H8141H7458H2490H935H3130H559H7458H776H776H4714H3899 55So when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. Then Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, "Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, do."H776H4714H7456H5971H6817H6547H3899H6547H559H4714H3212H3130H559H6213 56The famine was over all the face of the earth, and Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians. And the famine became severe in the land of Egypt.H7458H6440H776H3130H6605H7666H4714H7458H2388H776H4714 57So all countries came to Joseph in Egypt to buy grain, because the famine was severe in all lands.H776H935H4714H3130H7666H7458H2388H776
