Joseph Is Governor of Egypt

47Then Joseph went and told Pharaoh, and said, "My father and my brothers, their flocks and their herds and all that they possess, have come from the land of Canaan; and indeed they are in the land of Goshen."H3130H935H5046H6547H559H1H251H6629H1241H935H776H3667H776H1657
2And he took five men from among his brothers and presented them to Pharaoh.H3947H7097H251H2568H582H3322H6440H6547
3Then Pharaoh said to his brothers, "What is your occupation?" And they said to Pharaoh, "Your servants are shepherds, both we and also our fathers."H6547H559H251H4639H559H6547H5650H7462H6629H1
4And they said to Pharaoh, "We have come to dwell in the land, because your servants have no pasture for their flocks, for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen."H559H6547H1481H776H935H5650H4829H6629H7458H3515H776H3667H5650H3427H776H1657
5Then Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, "Your father and your brothers have come to you.H6547H559H3130H559H1H251H935
6"The land of Egypt is before you. Have your father and brothers dwell in the best of the land; let them dwell in the land of Goshen. And if you know any competent men among them, then make them chief herdsmen over my livestock."H776H4714H6440H4315H776H3427H1H251H3427H776H1657H3427H3045H3426H582H2428H7760H8269H4735
7Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and set him before Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.H3130H935H3290H1H5975H6440H6547H3290H1288H6547
8Pharaoh said to Jacob, "How old are you?"H6547H559H3290H4100H2416H3117H8141
9And Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage."H3290H559H6547H3117H8141H4033H3967H7970H8141H4592H7451H3117H8141H2416H5381H3117H8141H2416H1H3117H4033
10So Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.H3290H1288H6547H3318H6440H6547
11And Joseph situated his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.H3130H3427H1H251H5414H272H776H4714H4315H776H776H7486H6547H6680
12Then Joseph provided his father, his brothers, and all his father's household with bread, according to the number in their families.H3130H3557H1H251H1H1004H3899H6310H2945

Joseph Deals with the Famine

13Now there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine.H3899H776H7458H3966H3515H776H4714H776H3667H3856H6440H7458
14And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.H3130H3950H3701H4672H776H4714H776H3667H7668H7666H3130H935H3701H6547H1004
15So when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, "Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For the money has failed."H3701H8552H776H4714H776H3667H4714H935H3130H559H3051H3899H4191H3701H656
16Then Joseph said, "Give your livestock, and I will give you bread for your livestock, if the money is gone."H3130H559H3051H4735H5414H4735H3701H656
17So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, the flocks, the cattle of the herds, and for the donkeys. Thus he fed them with bread in exchange for all their livestock that year.H935H4735H3130H3130H5414H3899H5483H6629H4735H1241H2543H5095H3899H4735H8141
18When that year had ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, "We will not hide from my lord that our money is gone; my lord also has our herds of livestock. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our lands.H8141H8552H935H8145H8141H559H3582H113H3701H8552H113H413H4735H929H7604H6440H113H1472H127
19"Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants of Pharaoh; give us seed, that we may live and not die, that the land may not be desolate."H4191H5869H127H7069H127H3899H127H5650H6547H5414H2233H2421H4191H127H3456
20Then Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh's.H3130H7069H127H4714H6547H4714H4376H376H7704H7458H2388H776H6547
21And as for the people, he moved them into the cities, from one end of the borders of Egypt to the other end.H5971H5674H5892H7097H1366H4714H7097
22Only the land of the priests he did not buy; for the priests had rations allotted to them by Pharaoh, and they ate their rations which Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their lands.H127H3548H7069H3548H2706H6547H398H2706H6547H5414H4376H127
23Then Joseph said to the people, "Indeed I have bought you and your land this day for Pharaoh. Look, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land.H3130H559H5971H7069H853H3117H127H6547H1887H2233H2232H127
24"And it shall come to pass in the harvest that you shall give one-fifth to Pharaoh. Four-fifths shall be your own, as seed for the field and for your food, for those of your households and as food for your little ones."H8393H5414H2549H6547H702H3027H2233H7704H400H1004H398H2945
25So they said, "You have saved our lives; let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants."H559H2421H4672H2580H5869H113H6547H5650
26And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have one-fifth, except for the land of the priests only, which did not become Pharaoh's.H3130H7760H2706H127H4714H3117H6547H2569H7535H127H3548H6547

Joseph’s Vow to Jacob

27So Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions there and grew and multiplied exceedingly.H3478H3427H776H4714H776H1657H270H6509H7235H3966
28And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the length of Jacob's life was one hundred and forty-seven years.H3290H2421H776H4714H6240H7651H8141H2416H3117H3290H3967H705H8141H7651H8141
29When the time drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, "Now if I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Please do not bury me in Egypt,H3117H7126H3478H4191H7121H1121H3130H559H4672H2580H5869H7760H3027H3409H6213H2617H571H6912H4714
30"but let me lie with my fathers; you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burial place." And he said, "I will do as you have said."H7901H1H5375H4714H6912H6900H559H6213H1697
31Then he said, "Swear to me." And he swore to him. So Israel bowed himself on the head of the bed.H559H7650H7650H3478H7812H4296H7218
