Cain and Abel

4Later, Adam had sexual relations with his wife Eve. She became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, "I have given birth to a male child with the LORD."H120H3045H853H2332H802H2029H3205H853H7014H559H7069H376H854H3068
2She also gave birth to his brother Abel. Abel shepherded flocks and Cain became a farmer.H3254H3205H251H1893H1893H7462H6629H7014H5647H127
3Later, Cain brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit that he had harvested,H7093H3117H7014H935H6529H127H4503H3068
4while Abel offered the best parts of some of the firstborn from his flock. The LORD looked favorably upon Abel and his offering,H1893H1931H935H1062H6629H2459H3068H8159H1893H4503
5but he did not look favorably upon Cain and his offering. When Cain became very upset and depressed,H7014H4503H8159H7014H3966H2734H6440H5307
6the LORD asked Cain, "Why are you so upset - Why are you downcast -H3068H559H7014H2734H6440H5307
7If you do what is appropriate, you'll be accepted, won't you - But if you don't do what is appropriate, sin is crouching near your doorway, turning toward you. However, you must take dominion over it."H518H3190H7613H3190H2403H7257H6607H8669H4910
8Instead, Cain told his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the wilderness." When they were outside in the fields, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.H7014H559H413H1893H251H7704H7014H6965H413H1893H251H2026
9Later, the LORD asked Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he answered." Am I my brother's guardian?"H3068H559H7014H335H1893H251H559H3045H251H8104
10"What did you do?" God asked. "Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.H559H4100H6213H6963H251H1818H6817H127
11Now you are more cursed than the ground, which has opened to receive your brother's blood from your hand.H779H127H6475H6310H3947H251H1818H3027
12Whenever you work the ground, it will no longer yield its produce to you, and you will wander throughout the earth as a fugitive."H3588H5647H127H3254H5414H3581H5128H5110H776
13"My punishment is too great to bear," Cain said to the LORD.H7014H559H3068H5771H1419H5375
14"You're driving me from the soil today. I'll be hidden from you, and I'll wander throughout the earth as a fugitive. In the future, whoever finds me will kill me."H1644H3117H6440H127H5921H6440H5641H5128H5110H776H1961H4672H2026
15The LORD said to him, "This won't happen, because whoever kills you will suffer seven times the vengeance." Then the LORD placed a sign on Cain so that no one finding him would kill him.H3068H559H3651H2026H7014H5358H7659H3068H7760H226H7014H1115H4672H5221
16After this, Cain left the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.H7014H3318H6440H3068H3427H776H5113H6926H5731

From Cain to Lamech

17Later, Cain had sexual relations with his wife. She became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain founded a city and named it after his son Enoch.H7014H3045H802H2029H3205H2585H1129H5892H7121H8034H5892H8034H1121H2585
18Irad was born to Enoch. Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech.H2585H3205H5897H5897H3205H4232H4232H3205H4967H4967H3205H3929
19Later, Lamech married two wives. One was named Adah and the other was named Zillah.H3929H3947H8147H802H8034H259H5711H8034H8145H6741
20Adah gave birth to Jabal, who became the ancestor of those who live in tents and herd livestock.H5711H3205H2989H1H3427H168H4735
21His brother was named Jubal; he became the ancestor of all those who play the lyre and the flute.H251H8034H3106H1H8610H3658H5748
22Zillah gave birth to Tubal-cain, who became a forger of bronze and iron work. Tubal-cain's sister was Naamah.H6741H3205H8423H3913H2794H5178H1270H269H8423H5279
23Lamech told his wives, "Adah and Zillah, listen to what I have to say: You wives of Lamech, hear what I'm announcing! I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for bruising me.H3929H559H802H5711H6741H8085H6963H802H3929H238H565H2026H376H6482H3206H2250
24For if Cain is being avenged seven times, then Lamech will be avenged 77 times."H3588H7014H5358H7659H3929H7657H7651
25Later on, after Adam had sexual relations with his wife, she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, because "God granted me another offspring to replace Abel, since Cain killed him."H120H3045H802H5750H3205H1121H7121H8034H8352H430H7896H312H2233H8478H1893H3588H7014H2026
26Seth also fathered a son, whom he named Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the LORD.H8352H1931H3205H1121H7121H8034H583H2490H7121H8034H3068
