Haggai 1
New International Version (1984) Help
In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest:H8147H8141H1867H4428H8345H2320H259H3117H2320H1697H3068H3027H2292H5030H2216H1121H7597H6346H3063H3091H1121H3087H1419H3548H559
This is what the LORD Almighty says: "These people say, 'The time has not yet come for the LORD'S house to be built.'"H559H3068H6635H559H5971H559H6256H935H6256H3068H1004H1129
Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai:H1697H3068H3027H2292H5030H559
"Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?"H6256H3427H5603H1004H1004H2720
Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways.H559H3068H6635H7760H3824H1870
You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."H2232H7235H935H4592H398H7654H8354H7937H3847H2527H7936H7936H6872H5344
This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways.H559H3068H6635H7760H3824H1870
Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD.H5927H2022H935H6086H1129H1004H7521H3513H559H3068
"You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house.H6437H7235H4592H935H1004H5301H5002H3068H6635H3282H1004H2720H7323H376H1004
Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops.H8064H3607H2919H776H3607H2981
I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the oil and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and on the labor of your hands."H7121H2721H776H2022H1715H8492H3323H127H3318H120H929H3018H3709
Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD.H2216H1121H7597H3091H1121H3087H1419H3548H7611H5971H8085H6963H3068H430H1697H2292H5030H3068H430H7971H5971H3372H6440H3068
Then Haggai, the LORD'S messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: "I am with you," declares the LORD.H559H2292H3068H4397H3068H4400H5971H559H5002H3068
So the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the LORD Almighty, their God,H3068H5782H7307H2216H1121H7597H6346H3063H7307H3091H1121H3087H1419H3548H7307H7611H5971H935H6213H4399H1004H3068H6635H430
on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius.H702H6242H3117H8345H2320H8147H8141H1867H4428
