New International Version Help
10Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,H1945H2710H205H2711H3789H5999H3789 2to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.H5186H1800H1779H1497H4941H6041H5971H490H7998H962H3490 3What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?H6213H3117H6486H7722H935H4801H5127H5833H5800H3519 4Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.H1115H3766H616H5307H2026H639H7725H3027H5186

God’s Judgment on Assyria

5"Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!H1945H804H7626H639H4294H3027H2195 6I send him against a godless nation, I dispatch him against a people who anger me, to seize loot and snatch plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets.H7971H2611H1471H5971H5678H6680H7997H7998H962H957H7760H4823H2563H2351 7But this is not what he intends, this is not what he has in mind; his purpose is to destroy, to put an end to many nations.H1819H3824H2803H3824H8045H3772H1471H4592 8'Are not my commanders all kings?' he says.H559H8269H3162H4428 9'Has not Calno fared like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad, and Samaria like Damascus?H3641H3751H2574H774H8111H1834 10As my hand seized the kingdoms of the idols, kingdoms whose images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria—H3027H4672H4467H457H6456H3389H8111 11shall I not deal with Jerusalem and her images as I dealt with Samaria and her idols?'"H6213H8111H457H6213H3389H6091 12When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, "I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes.H136H1214H4639H2022H6726H3389H6485H6529H1433H3824H4428H804H8597H7312H5869 13For he says: "'By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, because I have understanding. I removed the boundaries of nations, I plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their kings.H559H3581H3027H6213H2451H995H5493H1367H5971H8154H6259H6264H3381H3427H47H3524 14As one reaches into a nest, so my hand reached for the wealth of the nations; as men gather abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the countries; not one flapped a wing, or opened its mouth to chirp.'"H3027H4672H7064H2428H5971H622H1000H5800H622H776H5074H3671H6475H6310H6850 15Does the ax raise itself above him who swings it, or the saw boast against him who uses it? As if a rod were to wield him who lifts it up, or a club brandish him who is not wood!H1631H6286H2672H4883H1431H5130H7626H5130H7311H4294H7311H6086 16Therefore, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame.H113H136H3068H6635H7971H4924H7332H3519H3344H3350H784 17The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One a flame; in a single day it will burn and consume his thorns and his briers.H216H3478H784H6918H3852H1197H398H7898H8068H259H3117 18The splendor of his forests and fertile fields it will completely destroy, as when a sick man wastes away.H3615H3519H3293H3759H5315H1320H5263H4549 19And the remaining trees of his forests will be so few that a child could write them down.H7605H6086H3293H4557H5288H3789

The Remnant of Israel

20In that day the remnant of Israel, the survivors of the house of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.H3117H7605H3478H6413H1004H3290H3254H8172H5221H8172H3068H6918H3478H571 21A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God.H7605H7725H7605H3290H1368H410 22Though your people, O Israel, be like the sand by the sea, only a remnant will return. Destruction has been decreed, overwhelming and righteous.H5971H3478H2344H3220H7605H7725H3631H2782H7857H6666 23The Lord, the LORD Almighty, will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole land.H136H3069H6635H6213H3617H2782H7130H776 24Therefore, this is what the Lord, the LORD Almighty, says: "O my people who live in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrians, who beat you with a rod and lift up a club against you, as Egypt did.H559H136H3069H6635H5971H3427H6726H3372H804H5221H7626H5375H4294H1870H4714 25Very soon my anger against you will end and my wrath will be directed to their destruction."H4213H4592H2195H3615H639H8399 26The LORD Almighty will lash them with a whip, as when he struck down Midian at the rock of Oreb; and he will raise his staff over the waters, as he did in Egypt.H3068H6635H5782H7752H4347H4080H6697H6159H4294H3220H5375H1870H4714 27In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat.H3117H5448H5493H7926H5923H6677H5923H2254H6440H8081 28They enter Aiath; they pass through Migron; they store supplies at Micmash.H935H5857H5674H4051H4363H6485H3627 29They go over the pass, and say, "We will camp overnight at Geba." Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul flees.H5674H4569H4411H1387H7414H2729H1390H7586H5127 30Cry out, O Daughter of Gallim! Listen, O Laishah! Poor Anathoth!H6670H6963H1323H1530H1554H7181H3919H6041H6068 31Madmenah is in flight; the people of Gebim take cover.H4088H5074H3427H1374H5756 32This day they will halt at Nob; they will shake their fist at the mount of the Daughter of Zion, at the hill of Jerusalem.H5975H5011H3117H5130H3027H2022H1323H1004H6726H1389H3389 33See, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will lop off the boughs with great power. The lofty trees will be felled, the tall ones will be brought low.H113H3068H6635H5586H6288H4637H7311H6967H1438H1364H8213 34He will cut down the forest thickets with an ax; Lebanon will fall before the Mighty One.H5362H5442H3293H1270H3844H5307H117
