14The LORD will have compassion on Jacob; once again he will choose Israel and will settle them in their own land. Aliens will join them and unite with the house of Jacob.H3068H7355H3290H977H3478H3240H127H1616H3867H5596H1004H3290 2Nations will take them and bring them to their own place. And the house of Israel will possess the nations as menservants and maidservants in the LORD'S land. They will make captives of their captors and rule over their oppressors.H5971H3947H935H4725H1004H3478H5157H127H3068H5650H8198H7617H7617H7287H5065 3On the day the LORD gives you relief from suffering and turmoil and cruel bondage,H3117H3068H5117H6090H7267H7186H5656H5647 4you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury has ended!H5375H4912H4428H894H559H5065H7673H4062H7673 5The LORD has broken the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,H3068H7665H4294H7563H7626H4910 6which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression.H5221H5971H5678H1115H5627H4347H7287H1471H639H4783H1097H2820 7All the lands are at rest and at peace; they break into singing.H776H5117H8252H6476H7440 8Even the pine trees and the cedars of Lebanon exult over you and say, "Now that you have been laid low, no woodsman comes to cut us down."H1265H8055H730H3844H7901H3772H5927 9The grave below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you—all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones—all those who were kings over the nations.H7585H7264H7125H935H5782H7496H6260H776H6965H3678H4428H1471 10They will all respond, they will say to you, "You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us."H6030H559H2470H4911 11All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you.H1347H3381H7585H1998H5035H7415H3331H8438H4374 12How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!H5307H8064H1966H1121H7837H3213H1438H776H2522H1471 13You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.H559H3824H5927H8064H7311H3678H4605H3556H410H3427H2022H4150H3411H6828 14I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."H5927H1116H5645H1819H5945 15But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.H3381H7585H3411H953 16Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble,H7200H7688H995H376H776H7264H7493H4467 17the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?"H7760H8398H4057H2040H5892H6605H1004H615 18All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb.H4428H1471H7901H3519H376H1004 19But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Like a corpse trampled underfoot,H7993H6913H8581H5342H3830H2026H2944H2719H3381H68H953H6297H947 20you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The offspring of the wicked will never be mentioned again.H3161H6900H7843H776H2026H5971H2233H7489H5769H7121 21Prepare a place to slaughter his sons for the sins of their forefathers; they are not to rise to inherit the land and cover the earth with their cities.H3559H4293H1121H5771H1H1077H6965H3423H776H4390H6440H8398H6145H5892 22"I will rise up against them," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will cut off from Babylon her name and survivors, her offspring and descendants," declares the LORD.H6965H5002H3068H6635H3772H894H8034H7605H5209H5220H5002H3068 23"I will turn her into a place for owls and into swampland; I will sweep her with the broom of destruction," declares the LORD Almighty.H7760H4180H7090H98H4325H2894H4292H8045H5002H3068H6635 24The LORD Almighty has sworn, "Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.H3068H6635H7650H559H1819H3289H6965 25I will crush the Assyrian in my land; on my mountains I will trample him down. His yoke will be taken from my people, and his burden removed from their shoulders."H7665H804H776H2022H947H5923H5493H5448H5493H7926 26This is the plan determined for the whole world; this is the hand stretched out over all nations.H6098H3289H776H3027H5186H1471 27For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?H3068H6635H3289H6565H3027H5186H7725

A Prophecy Against the Philistines

28This oracle came in the year King Ahaz died:H8141H4428H271H4194H4853 29Do not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken; from the root of that snake will spring up a viper, its fruit will be a darting, venomous serpent.H8055H6429H7626H5221H7665H5175H8328H3318H6848H6529H8314H5774H8314 30The poorest of the poor will find pasture, and the needy will lie down in safety. But your root I will destroy by famine; it will slay your survivors.H1060H1800H7462H34H7257H983H4191H8328H7458H2026H7611 31Wail, O gate! Howl, O city! Melt away, all you Philistines! A cloud of smoke comes from the north, and there is not a straggler in its ranks.H3213H8179H2199H5892H6429H4127H935H6828H6227H909H4151 32What answer shall be given to the envoys of that nation? "The LORD has established Zion, and in her his afflicted people will find refuge."H6030H4397H1471H3068H3245H6726H6041H5971H2620
