The Fall of Tyre

23The oracle concerning Tyre. Wail, O ships of Tarshish, For [Tyre] is destroyed, without house [or] harbor; It is reported to them from the land of Cyprus.H4853H6865H3213H591H8659H7703H1004H935H776H3794H1540 2Be silent, you inhabitants of the coastland, You merchants of Sidon; Your messengers crossed the seaH1826H3427H339H5503H6721H5674H3220H4390 3And [were] on many waters. The grain of the Nile, the harvest of the River was her revenue; And she was the market of nations.H7227H4325H2233H7883H7105H2975H8393H5505H1471 4Be ashamed, O Sidon; For the sea speaks, the stronghold of the sea, saying, "I have neither travailed nor given birth, I have neither brought up young men [nor] reared virgins."H954H6721H3220H559H4581H3220H559H2342H3205H1431H970H7311H1330 5When the report [reaches] Egypt, They will be in anguish at the report of Tyre.H8088H4714H2342H8088H6865 6Pass over to Tarshish; Wail, O inhabitants of the coastland.H5674H8659H3213H3427H339 7Is this your jubilant [city,] Whose origin is from antiquity, Whose feet used to carry her to colonize distant places?H5947H6927H6924H3117H7272H2986H7350H1481 8Who has planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, Whose merchants were princes, whose traders were the honored of the earth?H3289H6865H5849H5503H8269H3667H3513H776 9The LORD of hosts has planned it to defile the pride of all beauty, To despise all the honored of the earth.H3068H6635H3289H2490H1347H6643H7043H3513H776 10Overflow your land like the Nile, O daughter of Tarshish, There is no more restraint.H5674H776H2975H1323H8659H4206 11He has stretched His hand out over the sea, He has made the kingdoms tremble; The LORD has given a command concerning Canaan to demolish its strongholds.H5186H3027H3220H7264H4467H3068H6680H3667H8045H4581H4581 12And He has said, "You shall exult no more, O crushed virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, pass over to Cyprus; even there you will find no rest."H559H3254H5937H6231H1330H1323H6721H6965H5674H3794H5117 13Behold, the land of the Chaldeans— this is the people [which] was not; Assyria appointed it for desert creatures— they erected their siege towers, they stripped its palaces, they made it a ruin.H776H3778H5971H804H3245H6728H6965H971H6209H759H7760H4654 14Wail, O ships of Tarshish, For your stronghold is destroyed.H3213H591H8659H4581H7703 15Now it will come about in that day that Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years like the days of one king. At the end of seventy years it will happen to Tyre as [in] the song of the harlot:H3117H6865H7911H7657H8141H3117H259H4428H7093H7657H8141H6865H7892H2181 16Take [your] harp, walk about the city, O forgotten harlot; Pluck the strings skillfully, sing many songs, That you may be remembered.H3947H3658H5437H5892H2181H7911H3190H5059H7235H7892H2142 17And it will come about at the end of seventy years that the LORD will visit Tyre. Then she will go back to her harlot's wages, and will play the harlot with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth.H7093H7657H8141H3068H6485H6865H7725H868H2181H4467H776H6440H127 18And her gain and her harlot's wages will be set apart to the LORD; it will not be stored up or hoarded, but her gain will become sufficient food and choice attire for those who dwell in the presence of the LORD.H5504H868H6944H3068H686H2630H5504H3427H6440H3068H398H7654H6266H4374
