Ephraim’s Captivity Predicted

28Woe to the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, And to the fading flower of its glorious beauty, Which is at the head of the fertile valley Of those who are overcome with wine!H1945H5850H1348H7910H669H6643H8597H5034H6731H7218H8081H1516H1986H3196 2Behold, the Lord has a strong and mighty [agent;] As a storm of hail, a tempest of destruction, Like a storm of mighty overflowing waters, He has cast [it] down to the earth with [His] hand.H136H2389H533H2230H1259H6986H8178H2230H3524H4325H7857H3240H776H3027 3The proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim is trodden under foot.H5850H1348H7910H669H7429H7272 4And the fading flower of its glorious beauty, Which is at the head of the fertile valley, Will be like the first-ripe fig prior to summer; Which one sees, [And] as soon as it is in his hand, He swallows it.H6643H8597H7218H8081H1516H5034H6733H1061H7019H7200H7200H3709H1104 5In that day the LORD of hosts will become a beautiful crown And a glorious diadem to the remnant of His people;H3117H3068H6635H5850H6643H6843H8597H7605H5971 6A spirit of justice for him who sits in judgment, A strength to those who repel the onslaught at the gate.H7307H4941H3427H4941H1369H7725H4421H8179 7And these also reel with wine and stagger from strong drink: The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, They are confused by wine, they stagger from strong drink; They reel while having visions, They totter [ when rendering] judgment.H428H7686H3196H7941H8582H3548H5030H7686H7941H1104H4480H3196H8582H7941H7686H7203H6328H6417 8For all the tables are full of filthy vomit, without a [single clean] place.H7979H4390H6892H6675H4725 9"To whom would He teach knowledge? And to whom would He interpret the message? Those [just] weaned from milk? Those [just] taken from the breast?H3384H1844H995H8052H1580H2461H6267H7699 10"For [He says,] 'Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there.'"H6673H6673H6673H6673H6957H6957H6957H6957H2191H2191 11Indeed, He will speak to this people Through stammering lips and a foreign tongue,H3934H8193H312H3956H1696H5971 12He who said to them, "Here is rest, give rest to the weary," And, " Here is repose, "but they would not listen.H559H4496H5889H5117H4774H14H8085 13So the word of the LORD to them will be, "Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there," That they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared, and taken captive.H1697H3068H6673H6673H6673H6673H6957H6957H6957H6957H2191H2191H3212H3782H268H7665H3369H3920

Judah Is Warned

14Therefore, hear the word of the LORD, O scoffers, Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem,H8085H1697H3068H3944H582H4910H5971H3389 15Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we have made a pact. The overwhelming scourge will not reach us when it passes by, For we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception."H559H3772H1285H4194H7585H6213H2374H7857H7752H7885H5674H5674H935H7760H3577H4268H8267H5641 16Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone [for] the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes [in it] will not be disturbed.H559H136H3069H3245H6726H68H976H68H3368H6438H3245H4143H539H2363 17"And I will make justice the measuring line, And righteousness the level; Then hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, And the waters shall overflow the secret place.H4941H7760H6957H6666H4949H1259H3261H4268H3577H4325H7857H5643 18"And your covenant with death shall be canceled, And your pact with Sheol shall not stand; When the overwhelming scourge passes through, Then you become its trampling [place.]H1285H4194H3722H2380H7585H6965H7857H7752H5674H4823 19"As often as it passes through, it will seize you. For morning after morning it will pass through, [anytime] during the day or night. And it will be sheer terror to understand what it means."H1767H5674H3947H1242H1242H5674H3117H3915H2113H995H8052 20The bed is too short on which to stretch out, And the blanket is too small to wrap oneself in.H4702H7114H8311H4541H6887H3664 21For the LORD will rise up as [at] Mount Perazim, He will be stirred up as in the valley of Gibeon; To do His task, His unusual task, And to work His work, His extraordinary work.H3068H6965H2022H6559H7264H6010H1391H6213H4639H2114H4639H5647H5656H5237H5656 22And now do not carry on as scoffers, Lest your fetters be made stronger; For I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts, Of decisive destruction on all the earth.H3887H4147H2388H8085H136H3069H6635H3617H2782H776 23Give ear and hear my voice, Listen and hear my words.H238H8085H6963H7181H8085H565 24Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed? Does he [continually] turn and harrow the ground?H2790H2790H3117H2232H6605H7702H127 25Does he not level its surface, And sow dill and scatter cummin, And plant wheat in rows, Barley in its place, and rye within its area?H7737H6440H6327H7100H2236H3646H7760H7795H2406H5567H8184H3698H1367 26For his God instructs and teaches him properly.H430H3256H4941H3384 27For dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, Nor is the cartwheel driven over cummin; But dill is beaten out with a rod, and cummin with a club.H7100H1758H2742H5699H212H5437H3646H7100H2251H4294H3646H7626 28[Grain for] bread is crushed, Indeed, he does not continue to thresh it forever. Because the wheel of [his] cart and his horses [eventually] damage [it,] He does not thresh it longer.H3899H1854H5331H156H1758H2000H1536H5699H1854H6571 29This also comes from the LORD of hosts, [Who] has made [His] counsel wonderful and [His] wisdom great.H3318H3068H6635H6381H6098H1431H8454
