Futile Confidence in Egypt

30"Woe to the rebellious children," says the LORD, "Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin;H1945H5637H1121H5002H3068H6213H6098H5258H4541H7307H5595H2403H2403 2Who walk to go down to Egypt, And have not asked My advice, To strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, And to trust in the shadow of Egypt!H1980H3381H4714H7592H6310H5810H4581H6547H2620H6738H4714 3Therefore the strength of Pharaoh Shall be your shame, And trust in the shadow of Egypt Shall be your humiliation.H4581H6547H1322H2622H6738H4714H3639 4For his princes were at Zoan, And his ambassadors came to Hanes.H8269H6814H4397H5060H2609 5They were all ashamed of a people who could not benefit them, Or be help or benefit, But a shame and also a reproach."H3001H5971H3276H5828H3276H1322H2781 6The burden against the beasts of the South. Through a land of trouble and anguish, From which came the lioness and lion, The viper and fiery flying serpent, They will carry their riches on the backs of young donkeys, And their treasures on the humps of camels, To a people who shall not profit;H4853H929H5045H776H6869H6695H3833H3918H660H8314H5774H8314H5375H2428H3802H5895H214H1707H1581H5971H3276 7For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose. Therefore I have called her Rahab-Hem-Shebeth.H4714H5826H1892H7385H7121H2063H1992H7293H7674

A Rebellious People

8Now go, write it before them on a tablet, And note it on a scroll, That it may be for time to come, Forever and ever:H935H3789H3871H2710H5612H3117H314H5704H5703H5769 9That this is a rebellious people, Lying children, Children who will not hear the law of the LORD;H4805H5971H3586H1121H1121H14H8085H8451H3068 10Who say to the seers, "Do not see," And to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.H559H7200H7200H2374H2372H5229H1696H2513H2372H4123 11Get out of the way, Turn aside from the path, Cause the Holy One of Israel To cease from before us."H5493H1870H5186H734H6918H3478H7673H6440 12Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel: "Because you despise this word, And trust in oppression and perversity, And rely on them,H559H6918H3478H3988H1697H982H6233H3868H8172 13Therefore this iniquity shall be to you Like a breach ready to fall, A bulge in a high wall, Whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.H5771H6556H5307H1158H7682H2346H7667H935H6597H6621 14And He shall break it like the breaking of the potter's vessel, Which is broken in pieces; He shall not spare. So there shall not be found among its fragments A shard to take fire from the hearth, Or to take water from the cistern."H7665H7667H3335H5035H3807H2550H4672H4386H2789H2846H784H3344H2834H4325H1360 15For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel: "In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength." But you would not,H559H136H3069H6918H3478H7729H5183H3467H8252H985H1369H14 16And you said, "No, for we will flee on horses"—Therefore you shall flee! And, "We will ride on swift horses"—Therefore those who pursue you shall be swift!H559H5127H5483H5127H7392H7031H7291H7043 17One thousand shall flee at the threat of one, At the threat of five you shall flee, Till you are left as a pole on top of a mountain And as a banner on a hill.H259H505H6440H1606H259H6440H1606H2568H5127H3498H8650H7218H2022H5251H1389

God Will Be Gracious

18Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.H3068H2442H2603H7311H7355H3068H430H4941H835H2442 19For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; You shall weep no more. He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry; When He hears it, He will answer you.H5971H3427H6726H3389H1058H1058H2603H2603H6963H2199H8085H6030 20And though the Lord gives you The bread of adversity and the water of affliction, Yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, But your eyes shall see your teachers.H136H5414H3899H6862H4325H3906H3384H3670H5869H7200H3384 21Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.H241H8085H1697H310H559H1870H3212H541H8041 22You will also defile the covering of your graven images of silver, And the ornament of your molded images of gold. You will throw them away as an unclean thing; You will say to them, "Get away!"H2930H6826H6456H3701H642H4541H2091H2219H1739H559H3318 23Then He will give the rain for your seed With which you sow the ground, And bread of the increase of the earth; It will be fat and plentiful. In that day your cattle will feed In large pastures.H5414H4306H2233H2232H127H3899H8393H127H1879H8082H3117H4735H7462H7337H3733 24Likewise the oxen and the young donkeys that work the ground Will eat cured fodder, Which has been winnowed with the shovel and fan.H504H5895H5647H127H398H2548H1098H2219H7371H4214 25There will be on every high mountain And on every high hill Rivers and streams of waters, In the day of the great slaughter, When the towers fall.H1364H2022H5375H1389H6388H2988H4325H3117H7227H2027H4026H5307 26Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, And the light of the sun will be sevenfold, As the light of seven days, In the day that the LORD binds up the bruise of His people And heals the stroke of their wound.H216H3842H216H2535H216H2535H7659H216H7651H3117H3117H3068H2280H7667H5971H7495H4273H4347

Judgment on Assyria

27Behold, the name of the LORD comes from afar, Burning with His anger, And His burden is heavy; His lips are full of indignation, And His tongue like a devouring fire.H8034H3068H935H4801H1197H639H4858H3514H8193H4390H2195H3956H398H784 28His breath is like an overflowing stream, Which reaches up to the neck, To sift the nations with the sieve of futility; And there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, Causing them to err.H7307H7857H5158H2673H6677H5130H1471H5299H7723H7448H3895H5971H8582 29You shall have a song As in the night when a holy festival is kept, And gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute, To come into the mountain of the LORD, To the Mighty One of Israel.H7892H3915H6942H2282H6942H8057H3824H1980H2485H935H2022H3068H6697H3478 30The LORD will cause His glorious voice to be heard, And show the descent of His arm, With the indignation of His anger And the flame of a devouring fire, With scattering, tempest, and hailstones.H3068H1935H6963H8085H7200H5183H2220H2197H639H3851H398H784H5311H2230H68H1259 31For through the voice of the LORD Assyria will be beaten down, As He strikes with the rod.H6963H3068H804H2865H5221H7626 32And in every place where the staff of punishment passes, Which the LORD lays on him, It will be with tambourines and harps; And in battles of brandishing He will fight with it.H3605H4145H4294H4569H3068H5117H8596H3658H4421H8573H3898 33For Tophet was established of old, Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made it deep and large; Its pyre is fire with much wood; The breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, Kindles it.H8613H6186H865H4428H3559H6009H7337H4071H784H7235H6086H5397H3068H5158H1614H1197
