Condemnation of the Egyptian Alliance

30Woe to the rebellious children! [This is] the LORD's declaration. They carry out a plan, but not Mine, They make an alliance, but against My will, piling sin on top of sin.H1945H5637H1121H5002H3068H6213H6098H5258H4541H7307H5595H2403H2403 2They set out to go down to Egypt without asking My advice, in order to seek shelter under Pharaoh's protection and take refuge in Egypt's shadow.H1980H3381H4714H7592H6310H5810H4581H6547H2620H6738H4714 3But Pharaoh's protection will become your shame, and refuge in Egypt's shadow your disgrace.H4581H6547H1322H2622H6738H4714H3639 4For though his princes are at Zoan and his messengers reach as far as Hanes,H8269H6814H4397H5060H2609 5everyone will be ashamed because of a people who can't help. They are of no benefit, they are no help; they are good for nothing but shame and reproach.H3001H5971H3276H5828H3276H1322H2781 6An oracle about the animals of the Negev: Through a land of trouble and distress, of lioness and lion, of viper and flying serpent, they carry their wealth on the backs of donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people who will not help them.H4853H929H5045H776H6869H6695H3833H3918H660H8314H5774H8314H5375H2428H3802H5895H214H1707H1581H5971H3276 7Egypt's help is completely worthless; therefore, I call her: Rahab Who Just Sits.H4714H5826H1892H7385H7121H2063H1992H7293H7674 8Go now, write it on a tablet in their presence and inscribe it on a scroll; it will be for the future, forever and ever.H935H3789H3871H2710H5612H3117H314H5704H5703H5769 9They are a rebellious people, deceptive children, children who do not obey the LORD's instruction.H4805H5971H3586H1121H1121H14H8085H8451H3068 10They say to the seers, "Do not see," and to the prophets, "Do not prophesy the truth to us. Tell us flattering things. Prophesy illusions.H559H7200H7200H2374H2372H5229H1696H2513H2372H4123 11Get out of the way! Leave the pathway. Rid us of the Holy One of Israel."H5493H1870H5186H734H6918H3478H7673H6440 12Therefore the Holy One of Israel says: "Because you have rejected this message and have trusted in oppression and deceit, and have depended on them,H559H6918H3478H3988H1697H982H6233H3868H8172 13this iniquity of yours will be like a spreading breach, a bulge in a high wall whose collapse will come very suddenly.H5771H6556H5307H1158H7682H2346H7667H935H6597H6621 14Its collapse will be like the shattering of a potter's jar, crushed to pieces, so that not even a fragment of pottery will be found among its shattered remains— no fragment large enough to take fire from a hearth or scoop water from a cistern."H7665H7667H3335H5035H3807H2550H4672H4386H2789H2846H784H3344H2834H4325H1360 15For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said: "You will be delivered by returning and resting; your strength will lie in quiet confidence. But you are not willing."H559H136H3069H6918H3478H7729H5183H3467H8252H985H1369H14 16You say, "No! We will escape on horses"— therefore you will escape!— and, "We will ride on fast horses"— but those who pursue you will be faster.H559H5127H5483H5127H7392H7031H7291H7043 17One thousand [will flee] at the threat of one, at the threat of five you will flee, until you alone remain like a [solitary] pole on a mountaintop or a banner on a hill.H259H505H6440H1606H259H6440H1606H2568H5127H3498H8650H7218H2022H5251H1389

The Lord’s Mercy to Israel

18Therefore the LORD is waiting to show you mercy, and is rising up to show you compassion, for the LORD is a just God. Happy are all who wait patiently for Him.H3068H2442H2603H7311H7355H3068H430H4941H835H2442 19For you people will live on Zion in Jerusalem and will never cry again. He will show favor to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears, He will answer you.H5971H3427H6726H3389H1058H1058H2603H2603H6963H2199H8085H6030 20The Lord will give you meager bread and water during oppression, but your Teacher will not hide Himself any longer. Your eyes will see your Teacher,H136H5414H3899H6862H4325H3906H3384H3670H5869H7200H3384 21and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: "This is the way. Walk in it."H241H8085H1697H310H559H1870H3212H541H8041 22Then you will defile your silver-plated idols and your gold-plated images. You will throw them away like menstrual cloths, and call them filth.H2930H6826H6456H3701H642H4541H2091H2219H1739H559H3318 23Then He will send rain for your seed that you have sown in the ground, and the food, the produce of the ground, will be rich and plentiful. On that day your cattle will graze in open pastures.H5414H4306H2233H2232H127H3899H8393H127H1879H8082H3117H4735H7462H7337H3733 24The oxen and donkeys that work the ground will eat salted fodder scattered with winnowing shovel and fork.H504H5895H5647H127H398H2548H1098H2219H7371H4214 25Streams and watercourses will be on every high mountain and every raised hill on the day of great slaughter when the towers fall.H1364H2022H5375H1389H6388H2988H4325H3117H7227H2027H4026H5307 26The moonlight will be as bright as the sunlight, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter— like the light of seven days— on the day that the LORD bandages His people's injuries and heals the wounds He inflicted.H216H3842H216H2535H216H2535H7659H216H7651H3117H3117H3068H2280H7667H5971H7495H4273H4347

Annihilation of the Assyrians

27Look, Yahweh comes from far away, His anger burning and heavy with smoke. His lips are full of fury, and His tongue is like a consuming fire.H8034H3068H935H4801H1197H639H4858H3514H8193H4390H2195H3956H398H784 28His breath is like an overflowing torrent that rises to the neck. [He comes] to sift the nations in a sieve of destruction and to put a bridle on the jaws of the peoples to lead [them] astray.H7307H7857H5158H2673H6677H5130H1471H5299H7723H7448H3895H5971H8582 29Your singing will be like that on the night of a holy festival, And [your] heart will rejoice like one who walks [to the music] of a flute, going up to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.H7892H3915H6942H2282H6942H8057H3824H1980H2485H935H2022H3068H6697H3478 30And the LORD will make the splendor of His voice heard and reveal His arm striking in angry wrath and a flame of consuming fire, in driving rain, a torrent, and hailstones.H3068H1935H6963H8085H7200H5183H2220H2197H639H3851H398H784H5311H2230H68H1259 31Assyria will be shattered by the voice of the LORD. He will strike with a rod.H6963H3068H804H2865H5221H7626 32And every stroke of the appointed staff that the LORD brings down on him will be [to the sound] of tambourines and lyres; He will fight against him with brandished weapons.H3605H4145H4294H4569H3068H5117H8596H3658H4421H8573H3898 33Indeed! Topheth has been ready for the king for a long time now. His funeral pyre is deep and wide, with plenty of fire and wood. The breath of the LORD, like a torrent of brimstone, kindles it.H8613H6186H865H4428H3559H6009H7337H4071H784H7235H6086H5397H3068H5158H1614H1197
