Jeremiah’s Prayer

12Righteous art Thou, O LORD, that I would plead [my] case with Thee; Indeed I would discuss matters of justice with Thee: Why has the way of the wicked prospered? [Why] are all those who deal in treachery at ease?H6662H3068H7378H1696H4941H1870H7563H6743H7951H899H898 2Thou hast planted them, they have also taken root; They grow, they have even produced fruit. Thou art near to their lips But far from their mind.H5193H8327H3212H6213H6529H7138H6310H7350H3629 3But Thou knowest me, O LORD; Thou seest me; And Thou dost examine my heart's [attitude] toward Thee. Drag them off like sheep for the slaughter And set them apart for a day of carnage!H3068H3045H7200H974H3820H5423H6629H2878H6942H3117H2028 4How long is the land to mourn And the vegetation of the countryside to wither? For the wickedness of those who dwell in it, Animals and birds have been snatched away, Because [men] have said, "He will not see our latter ending."H776H56H6212H7704H3001H7451H3427H929H5595H5775H559H7200H319 5"If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out, Then how can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace, How will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?H7323H7273H3811H8474H5483H776H7965H982H6213H1347H3383 6"For even your brothers and the household of your father, Even they have dealt treacherously with you, Even they have cried aloud after you. Do not believe them, although they may say nice things to you."H251H1004H1H898H7121H4392H310H539H1696H2896

God’s Answer

7"I have forsaken My house, I have abandoned My inheritance; I have given the beloved of My soul Into the hand of her enemies.H5800H1004H5203H5159H5414H3033H5315H3709H341 8"My inheritance has become to Me Like a lion in the forest; She has roared against Me; Therefore I have come to hate her.H5159H738H3293H5414H6963H8130 9"Is My inheritance like a speckled bird of prey to Me? Are the birds of prey against her on every side? Go, gather all the beasts of the field, Bring them to devour!H5159H6641H5861H5861H5439H3212H622H2416H7704H857H402 10"Many shepherds have ruined My vineyard, They have trampled down My field; They have made My pleasant field A desolate wilderness.H7227H7462H7843H3754H947H2513H947H5414H2532H2513H8077H4057 11"It has been made a desolation, Desolate, it mourns before Me; The whole land has been made desolate, Because no man lays it to heart.H7760H8076H8077H56H776H8074H376H7760H3820 12"On all the bare heights in the wilderness Destroyers have come, For a sword of the LORD is devouring From one end of the land even to the other; There is no peace for anyone.H7703H935H8205H4057H2719H3068H398H7097H776H7097H776H1320H7965 13"They have sown wheat and have reaped thorns, They have strained themselves to no profit. But be ashamed of your harvest Because of the fierce anger of the LORD."H2232H2406H7114H6975H2470H3276H954H8393H2740H639H3068 14Thus says the LORD concerning all My wicked neighbors who strike at the inheritance with which I have endowed My people Israel, "Behold I am about to uproot them from their land and will uproot the house of Judah from among them.H559H3068H7451H7934H5060H5159H5971H3478H5157H5428H127H5428H1004H3063H8432 15"And it will come about that after I have uprooted them, I will again have compassion on them; and I will bring them back, each one to his inheritance and each one to his land.H310H5428H7725H7355H7725H376H5159H376H776 16"Then it will come about that if they will really learn the ways of My people, to swear by My name, 'As the LORD lives,' even as they taught My people to swear by Baal, then they will be built up in the midst of My people.H3925H3925H1870H5971H7650H8034H3068H2416H3925H5971H7650H1168H1129H8432H5971 17"But if they will not listen, then I will uproot that nation, uproot and destroy it," declares the LORD.H8085H5428H5428H6H1471H5002H3068
