Linen Underwear

13This is what the LORD said to me: "Go and buy yourself linen underwear and put it on, but don't get it wet."H559H3068H1980H7069H6593H232H7760H4975H935H4325
2So I bought underwear as the LORD instructed me and put it on.H7069H232H1697H3068H7760H4975
3Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time:H1697H3068H8145H559
4"Take the underwear that you bought and are wearing, and go at once to the Euphrates River and hide it in a rocky crevice."H3947H232H7069H4975H6965H3212H6578H2934H5357H5553
5So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.H3212H2934H6578H3068H6680
6A long time later the LORD said to me, "Go at once to the Euphrates and get the underwear that I commanded you to hide there."H7093H7227H3117H3068H559H6965H3212H6578H3947H232H6680H2934
7So I went to the Euphrates and dug up the underwear and got it from the place where I had hidden it, but it was ruined— of no use whatsoever.H3212H6578H2658H3947H232H4725H2934H232H7843H6743
8Then the word of the LORD came to me:H1697H3068H559
9"This is what the LORD says: Just like this I will ruin the great pride of both Judah and Jerusalem.H559H3068H7843H1347H3063H7227H1347H3389
10These evil people, who refuse to listen to Me, who walk in the stubbornness of their own hearts, and who have followed other gods to serve and worship— they will be like this underwear, of no use whatsoever.H7451H5971H3987H8085H1697H1980H8307H3820H3212H310H312H430H5647H7812H232H6743
11Just as underwear clings to one's waist, so I fastened the whole house of Israel and of Judah to Me"— [this is the LORD's declaration]— "so that they might be My people for My fame, praise, and glory, but they would not obey.H232H1692H4975H376H1692H1004H3478H1004H3063H5002H3068H5971H8034H8416H8597H8085

The Wine Jars

12"Say this to them: This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Every jar should be filled with wine. Then they will respond to you: Don't we know that every jar should be filled with wine?H559H1697H559H3068H430H3478H5035H4390H3196H559H3045H3045H5035H4390H3196
13And you will say to them, This is what the LORD says: I am about to fill all who live in this land— the kings who reign for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets and all the residents of Jerusalem— with drunkenness.H559H559H3068H4390H3427H776H4428H3427H1732H3678H3548H5030H3427H3389H7943
14I will smash them against each other, fathers and sons alike"— the LORD's declaration. "I will allow no mercy, pity, or compassion [to keep Me] from destroying them."H5310H376H251H1H1121H3162H5002H3068H2550H2347H7355H7843

The Lord’s Warning

15Listen and pay attention. Do not be proud, for the LORD has spoken.H8085H238H1361H3068H1696
16Give glory to the LORD your God before He brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the mountains at dusk. You wait for light, but He brings darkest gloom and makes thick darkness.H5414H3519H3068H430H2821H7272H5062H5399H2022H6960H216H7760H6757H7896H7896H6205
17But if you will not listen, my innermost being will weep in secret because of your pride. My eyes will overflow with tears, for the LORD's flock has been taken captive.H8085H5315H1058H4565H6440H1466H5869H1830H1830H3381H1832H3068H5739H7617
18Say to the king and the queen mother: Take a humble seat, for your glorious crowns have fallen from your heads.H559H4428H1377H8213H3427H4761H3381H5850H8597
19The cities of the Negev are under siege; no one can help [them]. All of Judah has been taken into exile, taken completely into exile.H5892H5045H5462H6605H3063H1540H7965H1540
20Look up and see those coming from the north. Where is the flock entrusted to you, the sheep [that were] your pride?H5375H5869H7200H935H6828H5739H5414H8597H6629

The Destiny of Jerusalem

21What will you say when He appoints close friends as leaders over you, ones you yourself trained? Won't labor pains seize you, as [they do] a woman in labor?H559H6485H3925H441H7218H2256H270H802H3205
22And when you ask yourself: Why have these things happened to me?— it is because of your great guilt that your skirts have been stripped off, your body ravished.H559H3824H7122H7230H5771H7757H1540H6119H2554
23Can the Cushite change his skin, or a leopard his spots? If so, you might be able to do what is good, you who are instructed in evil.H3569H2015H5785H5246H2272H3201H3190H3928H7489
24I will scatter you like drifting chaff before the desert wind.H6327H7179H5674H7307H4057
25This is your lot, what I have decreed for you— [this is] the LORD's declaration— because you have forgotten Me and trusted in Falsehood.H1486H4490H4055H5002H3068H7911H982H8267
26I will pull your skirts up over your face so that your shame might be seen.H2834H7757H6440H7036H7200
27Your adulteries and your [lustful] neighings, your heinous prostitution on the hills, in the fields— I have seen your detestable acts. Woe to you, Jerusalem! You are unclean— for how long yet?H7200H5004H4684H2154H2184H8251H1389H7704H188H3389H2891H5750H310
