The Ruined Waistband

13Thus the LORD said to me, "Go and buy yourself a linen waistband, and put it around your waist, but do not put it in water."H559H3068H1980H7069H6593H232H7760H4975H935H4325 2So I bought the waistband in accordance with the word of the LORD and put it around my waist.H7069H232H1697H3068H7760H4975 3Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying,H1697H3068H8145H559 4"Take the waistband that you have bought, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates and hide it there in a crevice of the rock."H3947H232H7069H4975H6965H3212H6578H2934H5357H5553 5So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD had commanded me.H3212H2934H6578H3068H6680 6And it came about after many days that the LORD said to me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates and take from there the waistband which I commanded you to hide there."H7093H7227H3117H3068H559H6965H3212H6578H3947H232H6680H2934 7Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the waistband from the place where I had hidden it; and lo, the waistband was ruined, it was totally worthless.H3212H6578H2658H3947H232H4725H2934H232H7843H6743 8Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,H1697H3068H559 9"Thus says the LORD, 'Just so will I destroy the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.H559H3068H7843H1347H3063H7227H1347H3389 10'This wicked people, who refuse to listen to My words, who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts and have gone after other gods to serve them and to bow down to them, let them be just like this waistband, which is totally worthless.H7451H5971H3987H8085H1697H1980H8307H3820H3212H310H312H430H5647H7812H232H6743 11'For as the waistband clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and the whole household of Judah cling to Me,' declares the LORD, 'that they might be for Me a people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they did not listen.'H232H1692H4975H376H1692H1004H3478H1004H3063H5002H3068H5971H8034H8416H8597H8085

Captivity Threatened

12"Therefore you are to speak this word to them, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel," Every jug is to be filled with wine. "'And when they say to you, 'Do we not very well know that every jug is to be filled with wine?'H559H1697H559H3068H430H3478H5035H4390H3196H559H3045H3045H5035H4390H3196 13then say to them, 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold I am about to fill all the inhabitants of this land— the kings that sit for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem— with drunkenness!H559H559H3068H4390H3427H776H4428H3427H1732H3678H3548H5030H3427H3389H7943 14"And I will dash them against each other, both the fathers and the sons together," declares the LORD. "I will not show pity nor be sorry nor have compassion that I should not destroy them." '"H5310H376H251H1H1121H3162H5002H3068H2550H2347H7355H7843 15Listen and give heed, do not be haughty, For the LORD has spoken.H8085H238H1361H3068H1696 16Give glory to the LORD your God, Before He brings darkness And before your feet stumble On the dusky mountains, And while you are hoping for light He makes it into deep darkness, [And] turns [it] into gloom.H5414H3519H3068H430H2821H7272H5062H5399H2022H6960H216H7760H6757H7896H7896H6205 17But if you will not listen to it, My soul will sob in secret for [ such] pride; And my eyes will bitterly weep And flow down with tears, Because the flock of the LORD has been taken captive.H8085H5315H1058H4565H6440H1466H5869H1830H1830H3381H1832H3068H5739H7617 18Say to the king and the queen mother, "Take a lowly seat, For your beautiful crown Has come down from your head."H559H4428H1377H8213H3427H4761H3381H5850H8597 19The cities of the Negev have been locked up, And there is no one to open [them]; All Judah has been carried into exile, Wholly carried into exile.H5892H5045H5462H6605H3063H1540H7965H1540 20"Lift up your eyes and see Those coming from the north. Where is the flock that was given you, Your beautiful sheep?H5375H5869H7200H935H6828H5739H5414H8597H6629 21"What will you say when He appoints over you— And you yourself had taught them— Former companions to be head over you? Will not pangs take hold of you, Like a woman in childbirth?H559H6485H3925H441H7218H2256H270H802H3205 22"And if you say in your heart, 'Why have these things happened to me?' Because of the magnitude of your iniquity Your skirts have been removed, And your heels have been exposed.H559H3824H7122H7230H5771H7757H1540H6119H2554 23"Can the Ethiopian change his skin Or the leopard his spots? [Then] you also can do good Who are accustomed to doing evil.H3569H2015H5785H5246H2272H3201H3190H3928H7489 24"Therefore I will scatter them like drifting straw To the desert wind.H6327H7179H5674H7307H4057 25"This is your lot, the portion measured to you From Me," declares the LORD, "Because you have forgotten Me And trusted in falsehood.H1486H4490H4055H5002H3068H7911H982H8267 26"So I Myself have also stripped your skirts off over your face, That your shame may be seen.H2834H7757H6440H7036H7200 27"As for your adulteries and your [lustful] neighings, The lewdness of your prostitution On the hills in the field, I have seen your abominations. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you remain unclean?"H7200H5004H4684H2154H2184H8251H1389H7704H188H3389H2891H5750H310
