Drought and a Prayer for Mercy

14That which came as the word of the LORD to Jeremiah in regard to the drought:H1697H3068H3414H1697H1226 2"Judah mourns, And her gates languish; They sit on the ground in mourning, And the cry of Jerusalem has ascended.H3063H56H8179H535H6937H776H6682H3389H5927 3"And their nobles have sent their servants for water; They have come to the cisterns and found no water. They have returned with their vessels empty; They have been put to shame and humiliated, And they cover their heads.H117H7971H6810H4325H935H1356H1360H4672H4325H7725H3627H7387H954H3637H2645H7218 4"Because the ground is cracked, For there has been no rain on the land; The farmers have been put to shame, They have covered their heads.H127H2865H1653H776H406H954H2645H7218 5"For even the doe in the field has given birth only to abandon [her young,] Because there is no grass.H365H3205H7704H5800H1877 6"And the wild donkeys stand on the bare heights; They pant for air like jackals, Their eyes fail For there is no vegetation.H6501H5975H8205H7602H7307H8577H5869H3615H6212 7"Although our iniquities testify against us, O LORD, act for Thy name's sake! Truly our apostasies have been many, We have sinned against Thee.H3068H5771H6030H6213H8034H4878H7231H2398 8"Thou Hope of Israel, Its Savior in time of distress, Why art Thou like a stranger in the land Or like a traveler who has pitched his [tent] for the night?H4723H3478H3467H6256H6869H1616H776H732H5186H3885 9"Why art Thou like a man dismayed, Like a mighty man who cannot save? Yet Thou art in our midst, O LORD, And we are called by Thy name; Do not forsake us!"H376H1724H1368H3201H3467H3068H7130H7121H8034H3240 10Thus says the LORD to this people, "Even so they have loved to wander; they have not kept their feet in check. Therefore the LORD does not accept them; now He will remember their iniquity and call their sins to account."H559H3068H5971H157H5128H2820H7272H3068H7521H2142H5771H6485H2403 11So the LORD said to me, "Do not pray for the welfare of this people.H559H3068H6419H5971H2896 12"When they fast, I am not going to listen to their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I am not going to accept them. Rather I am going to make an end of them by the sword, famine and pestilence."H6684H8085H7440H5927H5930H4503H7521H3615H2719H7458H1698

False Prophets

13But, "Ah, Lord GOD!" I said, "Look, the prophets are telling them, 'You will not see the sword nor will you have famine, but I will give you lasting peace in this place.'"H559H162H136H3069H5030H559H7200H2719H7458H5414H571H7965H4725 14Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility and the deception of their own minds.H3068H559H5030H5012H8267H8034H7971H6680H1696H5012H8267H2377H7081H457H434H8649H3820 15"Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, although it was not I who sent them— yet they keep saying, 'There shall be no sword or famine in this land'— by sword and famine those prophets shall meet their end!H559H3068H5030H5012H8034H7971H559H2719H7458H776H2719H7458H5030H8552 16"The people also to whom they are prophesying will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and there will be no one to bury them— [neither] them, [nor] their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters— for I shall pour out their [own] wickedness on them.H5971H5012H7993H2351H3389H6440H7458H2719H6912H1992H802H1121H1323H8210H7451 17"And you will say this word to them, 'Let my eyes flow down with tears night and day, And let them not cease; For the virgin daughter of my people has been crushed with a mighty blow, With a sorely infected wound.H559H1697H5869H3381H1832H3915H3119H1820H1330H1323H5971H7665H1419H7667H3966H2470H4347 18'If I go out to the country, Behold, those slain with the sword! Or if I enter the city, Behold, diseases of famine! For both prophet and priest Have gone roving about in the land that they do not know.' "H3318H7704H2491H2719H935H5892H8463H7458H5030H3548H5503H776H3045 19Hast Thou completely rejected Judah? Or hast Thou loathed Zion? Why hast Thou stricken us so that we are beyond healing? [We] waited for peace, but nothing good [came;] And for a time of healing, but behold, terror!H3988H3988H3063H5315H1602H6726H5221H4832H6960H7965H2896H6256H4832H1205 20We know our wickedness, O LORD, The iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against Thee.H3045H3068H7562H5771H1H2398 21Do not despise [us,] for Thine own name's sake; Do not disgrace the throne of Thy glory; Remember [and] do not annul Thy covenant with us.H5006H8034H5034H3678H3519H2142H6565H1285 22Are there any among the idols of the nations who give rain? Or can the heavens grant showers? Is it not Thou, O LORD our God? Therefore we hope in Thee, For Thou art the one who hast done all these things.H3426H1892H1471H1652H8064H5414H7241H3068H430H6960H6213
