Jeremiah 22
Today's New International Version Help
22This is what the LORD says: "Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and proclaim this message there:H559H3068H3381H1004H4428H3063H1696H1697
2'Hear the word of the LORD to you, king of Judah, you who sit on David's throne—you, your officials and your people who come through these gates.H559H8085H1697H3068H4428H3063H3427H3678H1732H5650H5971H935H8179
3This is what the LORD says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hands of their oppressors those who have been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.H559H3068H6213H4941H6666H5337H1497H3027H6216H3238H2554H1616H3490H490H8210H5355H1818H4725
4For if you are careful to carry out these commands, then kings who sit on David's throne will come through the gates of this palace, riding in chariots and on horses, accompanied by their officials and their people.H6213H1697H6213H935H8179H1004H4428H3427H3678H1732H7392H7393H5483H5650H5971
5But if you do not obey these commands, declares the LORD, I swear by myself that this palace will become a ruin.' "H8085H1697H7650H5002H3068H1004H2723
6For this is what the LORD says about the palace of the king of Judah: "Though you are like Gilead to me, like the summit of Lebanon, I will surely make you like a wasteland, like towns not inhabited.H559H3068H4428H1004H3063H1568H7218H3844H7896H4057H5892H3427H3427
7I will send destroyers against you, each man with his weapons, and they will cut up your fine cedar beams and throw them into the fire.H6942H7843H376H3627H3772H4005H730H5307H784
8"People from many nations will pass by this city and will ask one another, 'Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?'H7227H1471H5674H5892H559H376H7453H3068H6213H1419H5892
9And the answer will be: 'Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God and have worshiped and served other gods.' "H559H5800H1285H3068H430H7812H312H430H5647
10Do not weep for the dead king or mourn his loss; rather, weep bitterly for him who is exiled, because he will never return nor see his native land again.H1058H4191H5110H1058H1058H1980H7725H7200H4138H776
11For this is what the LORD says about Shallum son of Josiah, who succeeded his father as king of Judah but has gone from this place: "He will never return.H559H3068H413H7967H1121H2977H4428H3063H4427H2977H1H3318H4725H7725
12He will die in the place where they have led him captive; he will not see this land again."H4191H4725H1540H7200H776
13"Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his subjects work for nothing, not paying them for their labor.H1945H1129H1004H3808H6664H5944H4941H7453H5647H2600H5414H6467
14He says, 'I will build myself a great palace with spacious upper rooms.' So he makes large windows in it, panels it with cedar and decorates it in red.H559H1129H4060H1004H7304H5944H7167H2474H5603H730H4886H8350
15"Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went well with him.H4427H8474H730H1H398H8354H6213H4941H6666H2896
16He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?" declares the LORD.H1777H1779H6041H34H2896H1847H5002H3068
17"But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain, on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion."H5869H3820H1215H8210H5355H1818H6233H4835H6213
18Therefore this is what the LORD says about Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: "They will not mourn for him: 'Alas, my brother! Alas, my sister!' They will not mourn for him: 'Alas, my master! Alas, his splendor!'H559H3068H3079H1121H2977H4428H3063H5594H1945H251H1945H269H5594H1945H113H1945H1935
19He will have the burial of a donkey—dragged away and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem."H6912H6900H2543H5498H7993H1973H8179H3389
20"Go up to Lebanon and cry out, let your voice be heard in Bashan, cry out from Abarim, for all your allies are crushed.H5927H3844H6817H5414H6963H1316H6817H5676H157H7665
21I warned you when you felt secure, but you said, 'I will not listen!' This has been your way from your youth; you have not obeyed me.H1696H7962H559H8085H1870H5271H8085H6963
22The wind will drive all your shepherds away, and your allies will go into exile. Then you will be ashamed and disgraced because of all your wickedness.H7307H7462H7462H157H3212H7628H954H3637H7451
23You who live in 'Lebanon, ' who are nestled in cedar buildings, how you will groan when pangs come upon you, pain like that of a woman in labor!H3427H3844H7077H730H2603H2256H935H2427H3205
24"As surely as I live," declares the LORD, "even if you, Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a signet ring on my right hand, I would still pull you off.H2416H5002H3068H3659H1121H3079H4428H3063H2368H3225H3027H5423
25I will deliver you into the hands of those who seek your life, those you fear—Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the Babylonians.H5414H3027H1245H5315H3027H6440H3016H3027H5019H4428H894H3027H3778
26I will hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another country, where neither of you was born, and there you both will die.H2904H517H3205H312H776H3205H4191
27You will never come back to the land you long to return to."H776H5375H5315H7725H7725
28Is this man Jehoiachin a despised, broken pot, an object no one wants? Why will he and his children be hurled out, cast into a land they do not know?H376H3659H959H5310H6089H3627H2656H7993H2233H2904H776H3045
29O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD!H776H776H776H8085H1697H3068
30This is what the LORD says: "Record this man as if childless, a man who will not prosper in his lifetime, for none of his offspring will prosper, none will sit on the throne of David or rule anymore in Judah."H559H3068H3789H376H6185H1397H6743H3117H376H2233H6743H3427H3678H1732H4910H3063
