Jeremiah is Arrested

26In the beginning of the reign of Josiah's son Jehoiakim, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord:H7225H4468H3079H1121H2977H4428H3063H1697H3068H559 2"This is what the Lord says: 'Stand in the courtyard of the LORD's temple and tell those from all the cities of Judah who are coming to worship at the LORD's temple everything that I've commanded you to say to them. Don't leave out a word!H559H3068H5975H2691H3068H1004H1696H5892H3063H935H7812H3068H1004H1697H6680H1696H1639H1697 3Perhaps they'll listen, and each of them will repent from his evil way. Then I'll change my mind about the disaster I'm planning to bring on them because of their evil deeds.H8085H7725H376H7451H1870H5162H7451H2803H6213H6440H7455H4611 4Say to them, "This is what the Lord says: 'If you don't listen to me to follow my Law which I've set before you,H559H559H3068H8085H3212H8451H5414H6440 5and listen to the words of my servants, the prophets, whom I've sent to you over and over - but you wouldn't listen -H8085H1697H5650H5030H7971H7925H7971H8085 6then I'll make this house like Shiloh and make this city into a curse to all the nations of the earth.'"'"H5414H1004H7887H5414H5892H7045H1471H776

Jeremiah Threatened with Death

7The priests, the prophets, and all the people listened as Jeremiah spoke these words at the LORD's temple.H3548H5030H5971H8085H3414H1696H1697H1004H3068 8As soon as Jeremiah finished saying everything that the Lord had commanded him to say to all the people, the priests, the prophets, and all the people seized him, telling him as they did: "You must certainly die!H3414H3615H1696H3068H6680H1696H5971H3548H5030H5971H8610H559H4191H4191 9Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord that this house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be without an inhabitant? Then all the people gathered around Jeremiah at the LORD's temple.H5012H8034H3068H559H1004H7887H5892H2717H3427H5971H6950H3414H1004H3068 10When the Judean officials heard all these things, they came up from the king's house to the LORD's temple and sat in the doorway of the New Gate of the LORD's temple.H8269H3063H8085H1697H5927H4428H1004H1004H3068H3427H6607H2319H8179H3068 11The priests and prophets said to the officials and to all the people, "A death sentence for this man, because he prophesied against this city, as you heard with your own ears!"H559H3548H5030H8269H5971H559H376H4941H4194H5012H5892H8085H241 12Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and to all the people: "The Lord has sent me to prophesy all the things you heard against this house and against this city.H559H3414H8269H5971H559H3068H7971H5012H1004H5892H1697H8085 13Now, change your habits and your deeds and obey the Lord your God, and the Lord will change his mind about the disaster that he told you about.H3190H1870H4611H8085H6963H3068H430H3068H5162H7451H1696 14Look, I'm in your hands, so do with me what you think is good and right.H3027H6213H5869H2896H3477 15But know for certain that if you kill me, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves and on this city and its residents because the Lord really did send me to you to say all these things for you to hear."H3045H3045H4191H5414H5355H1818H5892H3427H571H3068H7971H1696H1697H241

The Elders Remember Micah’s Similar Message

16The officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, "No death sentence for this man because he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God."H559H8269H5971H3548H5030H376H4941H4194H1696H8034H3068H430 17Some of the elders of the land got up and said to all the assembled people,H6965H582H2205H776H559H6951H5971H559 18"Micah of Moresheth prophesied during the reign of Hezekiah king of Judah to all the people of Judah, 'This is what the Lord of the Heavenly Armies says: "Zion will be a plowed field, and Jerusalem a ruin. The temple mount will be a wooded hill.'"H4320H4183H5012H3117H2396H4428H3063H559H5971H3063H559H559H3068H6635H6726H2790H7704H3389H5856H2022H1004H1116H3293 19"Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone in Judah kill him?Didn't he fear the Lord and seek the Lord's favor, and so the Lord changed his mind about the disaster that he had spoken to them about. We're bringing great disaster on ourselves.H2396H4428H3063H3063H4191H4191H3373H3068H2470H3068H6440H3068H5162H7451H1696H587H6213H1419H7451H5315 20There was also a man named Uriah, Shemiah's son from Keriath-jearim, who prophesied in the Lord's name. He prophesied about this city and this land in words similar to those of Jeremiah.H376H5012H8034H3068H223H1121H8098H7157H5012H5892H776H1697H3414 21King Jehoiakim, all his troops, and all the officials heard his words, and the king sought to kill him. Uriah heard about this and was afraid, so he fled and went to Egypt.H3079H4428H1368H8269H8085H1697H4428H1245H4191H223H8085H3372H1272H935H4714 22King Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt. He sent Achbor's son Elnathan, along with a contingent of men into Egypt.H3079H4428H7971H582H4714H494H1121H5907H582H4714 23They brought Uriah out of Egypt and brought him to king Jehoiakim, who killed him with a sword. Then they threw his body into a common grave."H3318H223H4714H935H3079H4428H5221H2719H7993H5038H6913H1121H5971 24Yet because Shaphan's son Ahikam supported Jeremiah, he was not handed over to the people for them to kill.H3027H296H1121H8227H3414H5414H3027H5971H4191
