The Scroll Read in the Temple

36In the fourth year of King Jehoiakim son of Josiah of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD:H7243H8141H3079H1121H2977H4428H3063H1697H3414H3068H559 2Take a scroll and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah and all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah until today.H3947H4039H5612H3789H1697H1696H3478H3063H1471H3117H1696H3117H2977H3117 3It may be that when the house of Judah hears of all the disasters that I intend to do to them, all of them may turn from their evil ways, so that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.H1004H3063H8085H7451H2803H6213H7725H376H7451H1870H5545H5771H2403 4Then Jeremiah called Baruch son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote on a scroll at Jeremiah's dictation all the words of the LORD that he had spoken to him.H3414H7121H1263H1121H5374H1263H3789H6310H3414H1697H3068H1696H4039H5612 5And Jeremiah ordered Baruch, saying, "I am prevented from entering the house of the LORD;H3414H6680H1263H559H6113H3201H935H1004H3068 6so you go yourself, and on a fast day in the hearing of the people in the LORD's house you shall read the words of the LORD from the scroll that you have written at my dictation. You shall read them also in the hearing of all the people of Judah who come up from their towns.H935H7121H4039H3789H6310H1697H3068H241H5971H3068H1004H6685H3117H7121H241H3063H935H5892 7It may be that their plea will come before the LORD, and that all of them will turn from their evil ways, for great is the anger and wrath that the LORD has pronounced against this people."H5307H8467H6440H3068H7725H376H7451H1870H1419H639H2534H3068H1696H5971 8And Baruch son of Neriah did all that the prophet Jeremiah ordered him about reading from the scroll the words of the LORD in the LORD's house.H1263H1121H5374H6213H3414H5030H6680H7121H5612H1697H3068H3068H1004 9In the fifth year of King Jehoiakim son of Josiah of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the towns of Judah to Jerusalem proclaimed a fast before the LORD.H2549H8141H3079H1121H2977H4428H3063H8671H2320H7121H6685H6440H3068H5971H3389H5971H935H5892H3063H3389 10Then, in the hearing of all the people, Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the scroll, in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the secretary, which was in the upper court, at the entry of the New Gate of the LORD's house.H7121H1263H5612H1697H3414H1004H3068H3957H1587H1121H8227H5608H5945H2691H6607H2319H8179H3068H1004H241H5971

The Scroll Read in the Palace

11When Micaiah son of Gemariah son of Shaphan heard all the words of the LORD from the scroll,H4321H1121H1587H1121H8227H8085H5612H1697H3068 12he went down to the king's house, into the secretary's chamber; and all the officials were sitting there: Elishama the secretary, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the officials.H3381H4428H1004H5608H3957H8269H3427H476H5608H1806H1121H8098H494H1121H5907H1587H1121H8227H6667H1121H2608H8269 13And Micaiah told them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the scroll in the hearing of the people.H4321H5046H1697H8085H1263H7121H5612H241H5971 14Then all the officials sent Jehudi son of Nethaniah son of Shelemiah son of Cushi to say to Baruch, "Bring the scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come." So Baruch son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them.H8269H7971H3065H1121H5418H1121H8018H1121H3570H1263H559H3947H3027H4039H7121H241H5971H3212H1263H1121H5374H3947H4039H3027H935 15And they said to him, "Sit down and read it to us." So Baruch read it to them.H559H3427H7121H241H1263H7121H241 16When they heard all the words, they turned to one another in alarm, and said to Baruch, "We certainly must report all these words to the king."H8085H1697H6342H413H376H7453H559H1263H5046H5046H4428H1697 17Then they questioned Baruch, "Tell us now, how did you write all these words? Was it at his dictation?"H7592H1263H559H5046H3789H1697H6310 18Baruch answered them, "He dictated all these words to me, and I wrote them with ink on the scroll."H1263H559H7121H1697H6310H3789H1773H5612 19Then the officials said to Baruch, "Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are."H559H8269H1263H3212H5641H3414H376H3045H375

Jehoiakim Burns the Scroll

20Leaving the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the secretary, they went to the court of the king; and they reported all the words to the king.H935H4428H2691H6485H4039H3957H476H5608H5046H1697H241H4428 21Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary; and Jehudi read it to the king and all the officials who stood beside the king.H4428H7971H3065H3947H4039H3947H476H5608H3957H3065H7121H241H4428H241H8269H5975H5921H4428 22Now the king was sitting in his winter apartment (it was the ninth month), and there was a fire burning in the brazier before him.H4428H3427H1004H2779H8671H2320H254H1197H6440 23As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a penknife and throw them into the fire in the brazier, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.H3065H7121H7969H702H1817H7167H8593H5608H7993H784H254H4039H8552H784H254 24Yet neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words, was alarmed, nor did they tear their garments.H6342H7167H899H4428H5650H8085H1697 25Even when Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them.H494H1806H1587H6293H4428H8313H4039H8085 26And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son and Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest the secretary Baruch and the prophet Jeremiah. But the LORD hid them.H4428H6680H3396H1121H4429H8304H1121H5837H8018H1121H5655H3947H1263H5608H3414H5030H3068H5641

Jeremiah Dictates Another

27Now, after the king had burned the scroll with the words that Baruch wrote at Jeremiah's dictation, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:H1697H3068H3414H310H4428H8313H4039H1697H1263H3789H6310H3414H559 28Take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which King Jehoiakim of Judah has burned.H3947H7725H312H4039H3789H7223H1697H7223H4039H3079H4428H3063H8313 29And concerning King Jehoiakim of Judah you shall say: Thus says the LORD, You have dared to burn this scroll, saying, Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cut off from it human beings and animals?H559H3079H4428H3063H559H3068H8313H4039H559H3789H559H4428H894H935H935H7843H776H7673H120H929 30Therefore thus says the LORD concerning King Jehoiakim of Judah: He shall have no one to sit upon the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and the frost by night.H559H3068H3079H4428H3063H3427H3678H1732H5038H7993H3117H2721H3915H7140 31And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity; I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the people of Judah, all the disasters with which I have threatened them—but they would not listen.H6485H2233H5650H5771H935H3427H3389H376H3063H7451H1696H8085 32Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to the secretary Baruch son of Neriah, who wrote on it at Jeremiah's dictation all the words of the scroll that King Jehoiakim of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.H3947H3414H312H4039H5414H1263H5608H1121H5374H3789H6310H3414H1697H5612H3079H4428H3063H8313H784H3254H7227H1992H1697
