37Zedekiah the son of Josiah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah, reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim.H4428H6667H1121H2977H4427H3659H1121H3079H5019H4428H894H4427H776H3063 2But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land listened to the words of the LORD that he spoke through Jeremiah the prophet.H5650H5971H776H8085H1697H3068H1696H3027H5030H3414 3King Zedekiah sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "Please pray for us to the LORD our God."H6667H4428H7971H3081H1121H8018H6846H1121H4641H3548H5030H3414H559H6419H3068H430 4Now Jeremiah was still going in and out among the people, for he had not yet been put in prison.H3414H935H3318H8432H5971H5414H1004H3628 5The army of Pharaoh had come out of Egypt. And when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news about them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.H6547H2428H3318H4714H3778H6696H3389H8085H8088H5927H3389 6Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet:H1697H3068H5030H3414H559 7"Thus says the LORD, God of Israel: Thus shall you say to the king of Judah who sent you to me to inquire of me, 'Behold, Pharaoh's army that came to help you is about to return to Egypt, to its own land.H559H3068H430H3478H559H4428H3063H7971H1875H6547H2428H3318H5833H7725H4714H776 8And the Chaldeans shall come back and fight against this city. They shall capture it and burn it with fire.H3778H7725H3898H5892H3920H8313H784 9Thus says the LORD, Do not deceive yourselves, saying, "The Chaldeans will surely go away from us," for they will not go away.H559H3068H5377H5315H559H3778H1980H3212H3212 10For even if you should defeat the whole army of Chaldeans who are fighting against you, and there remained of them only wounded men, every man in his tent, they would rise up and burn this city with fire.'"H5221H2428H3778H3898H7604H1856H582H6965H376H168H8313H5892H784 11Now when the Chaldean army had withdrawn from Jerusalem at the approach of Pharaoh's army,H2428H3778H5927H3389H6440H6547H2428 12Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to receive his portion there among the people.H3414H3318H3389H3212H776H1144H2505H8432H5971 13When he was at the Benjamin Gate, a sentry there named Irijah the son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "You are deserting to the Chaldeans."H8179H1144H1167H6488H8034H3376H1121H8018H1121H2608H8610H3414H5030H559H5307H3778 14And Jeremiah said, "It is a lie; I am not deserting to the Chaldeans." But Irijah would not listen to him, and seized Jeremiah and brought him to the officials.H559H3414H8267H5307H3778H8085H3376H8610H3414H935H8269 15And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him and imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.H8269H7107H3414H5221H5414H612H1004H3083H5608H6213H3608 16When Jeremiah had come to the dungeon cells and remained there many days,H3414H935H1004H953H2588H3414H3427H7227H3117 17King Zedekiah sent for him and received him. The king questioned him secretly in his house and said, "Is there any word from the LORD?" Jeremiah said, "There is." Then he said, "You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon."H6667H4428H7971H3947H4428H7592H5643H1004H559H1697H3068H3414H559H3426H559H5414H3027H4428H894 18Jeremiah also said to King Zedekiah, "What wrong have I done to you or your servants or this people, that you have put me in prison?H3414H559H4428H6667H2398H5650H5971H5414H1004H3608 19Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, 'The king of Babylon will not come against you and against this land'?H346H5030H5012H559H4428H894H935H776 20Now hear, please, O my lord the king: let my humble plea come before you and do not send me back to the house of Jonathan the secretary, lest I die there."H8085H113H4428H8467H5307H6440H7725H1004H3083H5608H4191 21So King Zedekiah gave orders, and they committed Jeremiah to the court of the guard. And a loaf of bread was given him daily from the bakers' street, until all the bread of the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.H6667H4428H6680H6485H3414H2691H4307H5414H3117H3603H3899H644H2351H3899H5892H8552H3414H3427H2691H4307
