Jeremiah 37
Amplified Bible Help
37AND ZEDEKIAH son of Josiah, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah, reigned instead of Coniah [also called Jeconiah and Jehoiachin] son of Jehoiakim.H4428H6667H1121H2977H4427H3659H1121H3079H5019H4428H894H4427H776H3063 2But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land listened to {and} obeyed the words of the Lord which He spoke through the prophet Jeremiah.H5650H5971H776H8085H1697H3068H1696H3027H5030H3414 3Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah with Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now to the Lord our God for us.H6667H4428H7971H3081H1121H8018H6846H1121H4641H3548H5030H3414H559H6419H3068H430 4Now Jeremiah was coming in and going out among the people, for they had not [yet] put him in prison.H3414H935H3318H8432H5971H5414H1004H3628 5And Pharaoh's army had come forth out of Egypt, and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard the news about them, they withdrew from Jerusalem {and} departed.H6547H2428H3318H4714H3778H6696H3389H8085H8088H5927H3389 6Then came the word of the Lord to the prophet Jeremiah:H1697H3068H5030H3414H559 7Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Thus shall you say to the king of Judah, who sent you to Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which has come forth to help you, will return to Egypt, to their own land.H559H3068H430H3478H559H4428H3063H7971H1875H6547H2428H3318H5833H7725H4714H776 8And the Chaldeans shall come again and fight against this city, and they shall take it and burn it with fire.H3778H7725H3898H5892H3920H8313H784 9Thus says the Lord: Do not deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans will surely stay away from us--for they will not stay away.H559H3068H5377H5315H559H3778H1980H3212H3212 10For though you should defeat the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained only the wounded {and} men stricken through among them, every man confined to his tent, yet they would rise up and burn this city with fire.H5221H2428H3778H3898H7604H1856H582H6965H376H168H8313H5892H784 11And when the army of the Chaldeans had departed from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's approaching army,H2428H3778H5927H3389H6440H6547H2428 12Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin [to slip away during the brief lull in the Chaldean invasion] to receive [the title to] his portion [of land, which the Lord had promised would eventually be valuable] there among the people.H3414H3318H3389H3212H776H1144H2505H8432H5971 13And when he was at the Gate of Benjamin, a sentry was [on guard] there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are deserting to the Chaldeans.H8179H1144H1167H6488H8034H3376H1121H8018H1121H2608H8610H3414H5030H559H5307H3778 14Then said Jeremiah, It is false! I am not deserting to the Chaldeans. But the sentry would not listen to him. So Irijah took Jeremiah and brought him to the princes.H559H3414H8267H5307H3778H8085H3376H8610H3414H935H8269 15Therefore the princes were enraged with Jeremiah and beat him and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe--for they had made that the prison.H8269H7107H3414H5221H5414H612H1004H3083H5608H6213H3608 16When Jeremiah had come into the cells in the dungeon and had remained there many days,H3414H935H1004H953H2588H3414H3427H7227H3117 17Zedekiah the king sent and brought him out; and the king asked him secretly in his house, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is! And he said also, You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.H6667H4428H7971H3947H4428H7592H5643H1004H559H1697H3068H3414H559H3426H559H5414H3027H4428H894 18Moreover, Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, In what have I sinned against you or against your servants or against this people, that you have put me in prison?H3414H559H4428H6667H2398H5650H5971H5414H1004H3608 19Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you or against this land?H346H5030H5012H559H4428H894H935H776 20Therefore hear now, I pray you, O my lord the king. Let my supplication, I pray you, come before you {and} be acceptable, that you do not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.H8085H113H4428H8467H5307H6440H7725H1004H3083H5608H4191 21Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah to the court of the guard, and a round loaf of bread from the bakers' street was given to him daily until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained [imprisoned] in the court of the guard.H6667H4428H6680H6485H3414H2691H4307H5414H3117H3603H3899H644H2351H3899H5892H8552H3414H3427H2691H4307
