English Standard Version Help
3"If a man divorces his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man's wife, will he return to her? Would not that land be greatly polluted? You have played the whore with many lovers; and would you return to me? declares the LORD.H559H376H7971H802H1980H312H376H7725H776H2610H2610H2181H7227H7453H7725H5002H3068 2Lift up your eyes to the bare heights, and see! Where have you not been ravished? By the waysides you have sat awaiting lovers like an Arab in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your vile whoredom.H5375H5869H8205H7200H375H7693H7901H1870H3427H6163H4057H2610H776H2184H7451 3Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come; yet you have the forehead of a whore; you refuse to be ashamed.H7241H4513H4456H2181H802H4696H3985H3637 4Have you not just now called to me, 'My father, you are the friend of my youth—H7121H1H441H5271 5will he be angry forever, will he be indignant to the end?' Behold, you have spoken, but you have done all the evil that you could."H5201H5769H8104H5331H1696H6213H7451H3201

Faithless Israel Called to Repentance

6The LORD said to me in the days of King Josiah: "Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and there played the whore?H3068H559H3117H2977H4428H7200H4878H3478H6213H1980H1364H2022H8478H7488H6086H2181 7And I thought, 'After she has done all this she will return to me,' but she did not return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it.H559H310H6213H7725H7725H901H269H3063H7200 8She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.H7200H182H4878H3478H5003H7971H5414H5612H3748H898H269H3063H3372H3212H2181 9Because she took her whoredom lightly, she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and tree.H6963H2184H2610H776H5003H68H6086 10Yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to me with her whole heart, but in pretense, declares the LORD."H901H269H3063H7725H3820H8267H5002H3068 11And the LORD said to me, "Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.H3068H559H4878H3478H6663H5315H898H3063 12Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, "'Return, faithless Israel, declares the LORD. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, declares the LORD; I will not be angry forever.H1980H7121H1697H6828H559H7725H4878H3478H5002H3068H6440H5307H2623H5002H3068H5201H5769 13Only acknowledge your guilt, that you rebelled against the LORD your God and scattered your favors among foreigners under every green tree, and that you have not obeyed my voice, declares the LORD.H3045H5771H6586H3068H430H6340H1870H2114H7488H6086H8085H6963H5002H3068 14Return, O faithless children, declares the LORD; for I am your master; I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.H7725H7726H1121H5002H3068H1166H3947H259H5892H8147H4940H935H6726 15"'And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.H5414H7462H3820H7462H1844H7919 16And when you have multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, declares the LORD, they shall no more say, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD." It shall not come to mind or be remembered or missed; it shall not be made again.H7235H6509H776H3117H5002H3068H559H727H1285H3068H5927H3820H2142H6485H6213 17At that time Jerusalem shall be called the throne of the LORD, and all nations shall gather to it, to the presence of the LORD in Jerusalem, and they shall no more stubbornly follow their own evil heart.H6256H7121H3389H3678H3068H1471H6960H8034H3068H3389H3212H310H8307H7451H3820 18In those days the house of Judah shall join the house of Israel, and together they shall come from the land of the north to the land that I gave your fathers for a heritage.H3117H1004H3063H3212H1004H3478H935H3162H776H6828H776H5157H1 19"'I said, How I would set you among my sons, and give you a pleasant land, a heritage most beautiful of all nations. And I thought you would call me, My Father, and would not turn from following me.H559H7896H1121H5414H2532H776H6643H5159H6635H1471H559H7121H1H7725H310 20Surely, as a treacherous wife leaves her husband, so have you been treacherous to me, O house of Israel, declares the LORD.'"H403H802H898H7453H898H1004H3478H5002H3068 21A voice on the bare heights is heard, the weeping and pleading of Israel's sons because they have perverted their way; they have forgotten the LORD their God.H6963H8085H8205H1065H8469H1121H3478H5753H1870H7911H3068H430 22"Return, O faithless sons; I will heal your faithlessness." "Behold, we come to you, for you are the LORD our God.H7725H7726H1121H7495H4878H857H3068H430 23Truly the hills are a delusion, the orgies on the mountains. Truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.H403H8267H1389H1995H2022H403H3068H430H8668H3478 24"But from our youth the shameful thing has devoured all for which our fathers labored, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.H1322H398H3018H1H5271H6629H1241H1121H1323 25Let us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us. For we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God."H7901H1322H3639H3680H2398H3068H430H1H5271H3117H8085H6963H3068H430
