Israel Is Shameless

3"They say, 'If a man divorces his wife, And she goes from him And becomes another man's, May he return to her again?' Would not that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the harlot with many lovers; Yet return to Me," says the LORD.H559H376H7971H802H1980H312H376H7725H776H2610H2610H2181H7227H7453H7725H5002H3068 2"Lift up your eyes to the desolate heights and see: Where have you not lain with men? By the road you have sat for them Like an Arabian in the wilderness; And you have polluted the land With your harlotries and your wickedness.H5375H5869H8205H7200H375H7693H7901H1870H3427H6163H4057H2610H776H2184H7451 3Therefore the showers have been withheld, And there has been no latter rain. You have had a harlot's forehead; You refuse to be ashamed.H7241H4513H4456H2181H802H4696H3985H3637 4Will you not from this time cry to Me, 'My father, You are the guide of my youth?H7121H1H441H5271 5Will He remain angry forever? Will He keep it to the end?' Behold, you have spoken and done evil things, As you were able."H5201H5769H8104H5331H1696H6213H7451H3201

A Call to Repentance

6The LORD said also to me in the days of Josiah the king: "Have you seen what backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there played the harlot.H3068H559H3117H2977H4428H7200H4878H3478H6213H1980H1364H2022H8478H7488H6086H2181 7"And I said, after she had done all these things, 'Return to Me.' But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.H559H310H6213H7725H7725H901H269H3063H7200 8"Then I saw that for all the causes for which backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also.H7200H182H4878H3478H5003H7971H5414H5612H3748H898H269H3063H3372H3212H2181 9"So it came to pass, through her casual harlotry, that she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.H6963H2184H2610H776H5003H68H6086 10"And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but in pretense," says the LORD.H901H269H3063H7725H3820H8267H5002H3068 11Then the LORD said to me, "Backsliding Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.H3068H559H4878H3478H6663H5315H898H3063 12"Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: 'Return, backsliding Israel,' says the LORD; 'I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,' says the LORD; 'I will not remain angry forever.H1980H7121H1697H6828H559H7725H4878H3478H5002H3068H6440H5307H2623H5002H3068H5201H5769 13Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against the LORD your God, And have scattered your charms To alien deities under every green tree, And you have not obeyed My voice,' says the LORD.H3045H5771H6586H3068H430H6340H1870H2114H7488H6086H8085H6963H5002H3068 14"Return, O backsliding children," says the LORD; "for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.H7725H7726H1121H5002H3068H1166H3947H259H5892H8147H4940H935H6726 15"And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.H5414H7462H3820H7462H1844H7919 16"Then it shall come to pass, when you are multiplied and increased in the land in those days," says the LORD, "that they will say no more, 'The ark of the covenant of the LORD.' It shall not come to mind, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they visit it, nor shall it be made anymore.H7235H6509H776H3117H5002H3068H559H727H1285H3068H5927H3820H2142H6485H6213 17"At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts.H6256H7121H3389H3678H3068H1471H6960H8034H3068H3389H3212H310H8307H7451H3820 18"In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given as an inheritance to your fathers.H3117H1004H3063H3212H1004H3478H935H3162H776H6828H776H5157H1 19"But I said: 'How can I put you among the children And give you a pleasant land, A beautiful heritage of the hosts of nations?' "And I said: 'You shall call Me, "My Father," And not turn away from Me.'H559H7896H1121H5414H2532H776H6643H5159H6635H1471H559H7121H1H7725H310 20Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, So have you dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel," says the LORD.H403H802H898H7453H898H1004H3478H5002H3068 21A voice was heard on the desolate heights, Weeping and supplications of the children of Israel. For they have perverted their way; They have forgotten the LORD their God.H6963H8085H8205H1065H8469H1121H3478H5753H1870H7911H3068H430 22"Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backslidings." "Indeed we do come to You, For You are the LORD our God.H7725H7726H1121H7495H4878H857H3068H430 23Truly, in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, And from the multitude of mountains; Truly, in the LORD our God Is the salvation of Israel.H403H8267H1389H1995H2022H403H3068H430H8668H3478 24For shame has devoured The labor of our fathers from our youth—Their flocks and their herds, Their sons and their daughters.H1322H398H3018H1H5271H6629H1241H1121H1323 25We lie down in our shame, And our reproach covers us. For we have sinned against the LORD our God, We and our fathers, From our youth even to this day, And have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God."H7901H1322H3639H3680H2398H3068H430H1H5271H3117H8085H6963H3068H430
