In Egypt Jeremiah Warns of Judgment

43But it came about, as soon as Jeremiah whom the LORD their God had sent, had finished telling all the people all the words of the LORD their God— that is, all these words—H3414H3615H1696H5971H1697H3068H430H3068H430H7971H1697 2that Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the arrogant men said to Jeremiah, "You are telling a lie! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, 'You are not to enter Egypt to reside there';H559H5838H1121H1955H3110H1121H7143H2086H582H559H3414H1696H8267H3068H430H7971H559H935H4714H1481 3but Baruch the son of Neriah is inciting you against us to give us over into the hand of the Chaldeans, so they may put us to death or exile us to Babylon. "H1263H1121H5374H5496H4616H5414H3027H3778H4191H1540H894 4So Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces, and all the people, did not obey the voice of the LORD, so as to stay in the land of Judah.H3110H1121H7143H8269H2428H5971H8085H6963H3068H3427H776H3063 5But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces took the entire remnant of Judah who had returned from all the nations to which they had been driven away, in order to reside in the land of Judah—H3110H1121H7143H8269H2428H3947H7611H3063H7725H1471H5080H1481H776H3063 6the men, the women, the children, the king's daughters and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan, together with Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the son of Neriah—H1397H802H2945H4428H1323H5315H5018H7227H2876H3240H1436H1121H296H1121H8227H3414H5030H1263H1121H5374 7and they entered the land of Egypt (for they did not obey the voice of the LORD) and went in as far as Tahpanhes.H935H776H4714H8085H6963H3068H935H8471 8Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,H1697H3068H3414H8471H559 9"Take [some] large stones in your hands and hide them in the mortar in the brick [terrace] which is at the entrance of Pharaoh's palace in Tahpanhes, in the sight of some [of the] Jews;H3947H1419H68H3027H2934H4423H4404H6607H6547H1004H8471H5869H582H3064 10and say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Behold, I am going to send and get Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and I am going to set his throne [right] over these stones that I have hidden; and he will spread his canopy over them.H559H559H3068H6635H430H3478H7971H3947H5019H4428H894H5650H7760H3678H4605H68H2934H5186H8237 11"He will also come and strike the land of Egypt; those who are [meant] for death [will be given over] to death, and those for captivity to captivity, and those for the sword to the sword.H935H5221H776H4714H4194H4194H7628H7628H2719H2719 12"And I shall set fire to the temples of the gods of Egypt, and he will burn them and take them captive. So he will wrap himself with the land of Egypt as a shepherd wraps himself with his garment, and he will depart from there safely.H3341H784H1004H430H4714H8313H7617H5844H776H4714H7462H5844H899H3318H7965 13"He will also shatter the obelisks of Heliopolis, which is in the land of Egypt; and the temples of the gods of Egypt he will burn with fire."
