Death over Life

8"At that time"— [this is] the LORD's declaration— "the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of her officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the residents of Jerusalem will be brought out of their graves.H6256H5002H3068H3318H6106H4428H3063H6106H8269H6106H3548H6106H5030H6106H3427H3389H6913
2They will be exposed to the sun, the moon, and the whole heavenly host, which they have loved, served, followed, pursued, and worshiped. [Their bones] will not be collected and buried but will become like manure on the surface of the soil.H7849H8121H3394H6635H8064H157H5647H310H1980H1875H7812H622H6912H1828H6440H127
3Death will be chosen over life by all the survivors of this evil family, those who remain wherever I have banished them." [This is] the declaration of the LORD of Hosts.H4194H977H2416H7611H7604H7451H4940H7604H4725H5080H5002H3068H6635
4You are to say to them: This is what the LORD says: Do [people] fall and not get up again? If they turn away, do they not return?H559H559H3068H5307H6965H7725H7725
5Why have these people turned away? Why is Jerusalem always turning away? They take hold of deceit; they refuse to return.H5971H3389H7725H5329H4878H2388H8649H3985H7725
6I have paid careful attention. They do not speak what is right. No one regrets his evil, asking: What have I done? Everyone has stayed his course like a horse rushing into battle.H7181H8085H1696H376H5162H5921H7451H559H6213H7725H4794H5483H7857H4421
7Even the stork in the sky knows her seasons. The turtledove, swallow, and crane are aware of their migration, but My people do not know the requirements of the LORD.H2624H8064H3045H4150H8449H5483H5693H8104H6256H935H5971H3045H4941H3068

Punishment for Judah’s Leaders

8How can you claim: We are wise; the law of the LORD is with us? In fact, the lying pen of scribes has produced falsehood.H559H2450H8451H3068H403H8267H6213H5842H5608H8267
9The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and snared. They have rejected the word of the LORD, so what wisdom do they really have?H2450H3001H2865H3920H3988H1697H3068H2451
10Therefore, I will give their wives to other men, their fields to new occupants, for from the least to the greatest, everyone is gaining profit unjustly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.H5414H802H312H7704H3423H6996H1419H1214H1215H5030H3548H6213H8267
11They have treated superficially the brokenness of My dear people, claiming: Peace, peace, when there is no peace.H7495H7667H1323H5971H7043H559H7965H7965H7965
12Were they ashamed when they acted so abhorrently? They weren't at all ashamed. They can no longer feel humiliation. Therefore, they will fall among the fallen. When I punish them, they will collapse, says the LORD.H3001H6213H8441H954H954H3045H3637H5307H5307H6256H6486H3782H559H3068
13I will gather them and bring them to an end. [This is] the LORD's declaration. There will be no grapes on the vine, no figs on the fig tree, and even the leaf will wither. Whatever I have given them will be lost to them.H622H5486H5002H3068H6025H1612H8384H8384H5929H5034H5414H5674

God’s People Unrepentant

14Why are we just sitting here? Gather together; let us enter the fortified cities and there suffer our fate, for the LORD our God has condemned us. He has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.H3427H622H935H4013H5892H1826H3068H430H1826H4325H7219H8248H2398H3068
15We hoped for peace, but there was nothing good; for a time of healing, but there was only terror.H6960H7965H2896H6256H4832H1205
16From Dan is heard the snorting of horses. At the sound of the neighing of mighty steeds, the whole land quakes. They come to devour the land and everything in it, the city and all its residents.H5170H5483H8085H1835H776H7493H6963H4684H47H935H398H776H4393H5892H3427
17Indeed, I am about to send snakes among you, poisonous vipers that cannot be charmed. They will bite you. [This is] the LORD's declaration.H7971H5175H6848H3908H5391H5002H3068

Lament over Judah

18My joy has flown away; grief has settled on me. My heart is sick.H4010H3015H3820H1742
19Listen— the cry of my dear people from a far away land: Is the LORD no longer in Zion, her King not in her midst? Why have they provoked Me to anger with their graven images, with their worthless foreign idols?H6963H7775H1323H5971H4801H776H3068H6726H4428H3707H6456H5236H1892
20Harvest has passed, summer has ended, but we have not been saved.H7105H5674H7019H3615H3467
21I am broken by the brokenness of my dear people. I mourn; horror has taken hold of me.H7667H1323H5971H7665H6937H8047H2388
22Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? So why has the healing of my dear people not come about?H6875H1568H7495H3588H724H1323H5971H5927
