Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet

13It was now the day before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. He had always loved those in the world who were his own, and he loved them to the very end.G1161G4253G1859G3957G2424G1492G3754G846G5610G2064G2443G3327G1537G5127G2889G4314G3962G25G2398G3588G1722G2889G25G846G1519G5056
2Jesus and his disciples were at supper. The Devil had already put into the heart of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, the thought of betraying Jesus.G2532G1173G1096G1228G2235G906G1519G2588G2455G2469G4613G2443G3860G846
3Jesus knew that the Father had given him complete power; he knew that he had come from God and was going to God.G2424G1492G3754G3962G1325G3956G1519G846G5495G2532G3754G1831G575G2316G2532G5217G4314G2316
4So he rose from the table, took off his outer garment, and tied a towel around his waist.G1453G1537G1173G2532G5087G2440G2532G2983G3012G1241G1438
5Then he poured some water into a washbasin and began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel around his waist.G1534G906G5204G1519G3537G2532G756G3538G3101G4228G2532G1591G3012G3739G2258G1241
6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Are you going to wash my feet, Lord?"G3767G2064G4314G4613G4074G2532G1565G3004G846G2962G3538G4771G3538G3450G4228
7Jesus answered him, "You do not understand now what I am doing, but you will understand later."G2424G611G2532G2036G846G3739G1473G4160G4771G1492G3756G737G1161G1097G3326G5023
8Peter declared, "Never at any time will you wash my feet!" "If I do not wash your feet," Jesus answered, "you will no longer be my disciple."G4074G3004G846G3538G1519G165G3364G3538G3450G4228G2424G611G846G3362G3538G4571G3362G2192G3756G3313G3326G1700
9Simon Peter answered, "Lord, do not wash only my feet, then! Wash my hands and head, too!"G4613G4074G3004G846G2962G3361G3450G4228G3440G235G2532G5495G2532G2776
10Jesus said, "Those who have taken a bath are completely clean and do not have to wash themselves, except for their feet. All of you are clean - -all except one."G2424G3004G846G3068G5532G3756G2192G2228G3538G4228G235G2076G2513G3650G2532G5210G2075G2513G235G3780G3956
11(Jesus already knew who was going to betray him; that is why he said, "All of you, except one, are clean.")G1063G1492G3588G3860G846G5124G1223G2036G2075G3780G3956G2513
12After Jesus had washed their feet, he put his outer garment back on and returned to his place at the table. "Do you understand what I have just done to you?" he asked.G3767G3753G3538G846G4228G2532G2983G846G2440G377G3825G2036G846G1097G5101G4160G5213
13"You call me Teacher and Lord, and it is right that you do so, because that is what I am.G5210G5455G3165G1320G2532G2962G2532G3004G2573G1063G1510
14I, your Lord and Teacher, have just washed your feet. You, then, should wash one another's feet.G1487G1473G3767G2962G2532G1320G3538G5216G4228G5210G2532G3784G3538G240G4228
15I have set an example for you, so that you will do just what I have done for you.G1063G1325G5213G5262G2443G5210G4160G2531G2532G1473G4160G5213
16I am telling you the truth: no slaves are greater than their master, and no messengers are greater than the one who sent them.G281G281G3004G5213G1401G2076G3756G3187G846G2962G3761G652G3187G3992G846
17Now that you know this truth, how happy you will be if you put it into practice!G1487G1492G5023G3107G2075G1437G4160G846
18"I am not talking about all of you; I know those I have chosen. But the scripture must come true that says, 'The man who shared my food turned against me.'G3004G3756G4012G5216G3956G1473G1492G3739G1586G235G2443G1124G4137G5176G740G3326G1700G1869G846G4418G1909G1691
19I tell you this now before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe that 'I Am Who I Am.'G575G737G3004G5213G4253G1096G2443G3752G1096G4100G3754G1473G1510
20I am telling you the truth: whoever receives anyone I send receives me also; and whoever receives me receives him who sent me."G281G281G3004G5213G2983G1437G5100G3992G2983G1691G1161G2983G1691G2983G3992G3165

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

21After Jesus had said this, he was deeply troubled and declared openly, "I am telling you the truth: one of you is going to betray me."G2424G2036G5023G2036G5015G4151G2532G3140G2532G2036G281G281G3004G5213G3754G1520G1537G5216G3860G3165
22The disciples looked at one another, completely puzzled about whom he meant.G3767G3101G991G1519G240G639G4012G5101G3004
23One of the disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was sitting next to Jesus.G1161G2258G345G1722G2424G2859G1520G846G3101G3739G2424G25
24Simon Peter motioned to him and said, "Ask him whom he is talking about."G4613G4074G3767G3506G5129G4441G5101G302G1498G4012G3739G3004
25So that disciple moved closer to Jesus' side and asked, "Who is it, Lord?"G1565G1161G1968G1909G2424G4738G3004G846G2962G5101G2076
26Jesus answered, "I will dip some bread in the sauce and give it to him; he is the man." So he took a piece of bread, dipped it, and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.G2424G611G1565G2076G3739G1929G5596G1473G911G2532G1686G5596G1325G2455G2469G4613
27As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, "Hurry and do what you must!"G2532G3326G5596G5119G4567G1525G1519G1565G3767G3004G2424G846G3739G4160G4160G5032
28None of the others at the table understood why Jesus said this to him.G1161G3762G345G1097G4314G5101G2036G5124G846
29Since Judas was in charge of the money bag, some of the disciples thought that Jesus had told him to go and buy what they needed for the festival, or to give something to the poor.G1063G5100G1380G1893G2455G2192G1101G3754G2424G3004G846G59G3739G2192G5532G1519G1859G2228G2443G1325G5100G4434
30Judas accepted the bread and went out at once. It was night.G1565G3767G2983G5596G1831G2112G1831G1161G2258G3571

The New Commandment

31After Judas had left, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man's glory is revealed; now God's glory is revealed through him.G3767G3753G1831G2424G3004G3568G1392G5207G444G1392G2532G2316G1392G1722G846
32And if God's glory is revealed through him, then God will reveal the glory of the Son of Man in himself, and he will do so at once.G1487G2316G1392G1722G846G2316G1392G2532G1392G846G1722G1438G2532G1392G2117G1392G846
33My children, I shall not be with you very much longer. You will look for me; but I tell you now what I told the Jewish authorities, 'You cannot go where I am going.'G5040G2089G3397G1510G3326G5216G2212G3165G2532G2531G2036G2453G3754G3699G1473G5217G5210G3756G1410G2064G2532G737G3004G5213
34And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.G2537G1785G1325G5213G2443G25G240G2531G25G5209G2443G5210G2532G25G240
35If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples."G1722G5129G1097G3956G1097G3754G2075G1699G3101G1437G2192G26G1722G240

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

36"Where are you going, Lord?" Simon Peter asked him. "You cannot follow me now where I am going," answered Jesus; "but later you will follow me."G4613G4074G3004G846G2962G4226G5217G2424G611G846G3699G5217G1410G3756G190G3427G3568G1161G190G3427G5305
37"Lord, why can't I follow you now?" asked Peter. "I am ready to die for you!"G4074G3004G846G2962G1302G3756G1410G190G4671G737G5087G3450G5590G5228G4675
38Jesus answered, "Are you really ready to die for me? I am telling you the truth: before the rooster crows you will say three times that you do not know me.G2424G611G846G5087G4675G5590G5228G1700G281G281G3004G4671G220G5455G3364G5455G2193G3739G533G3165G5151
