John 13
New International Version (1984) Help
13It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.G1161G4253G1859G3957G2424G1492G3754G846G5610G2064G2443G3327G1537G5127G2889G4314G3962G25G2398G3588G1722G2889G25G846G1519G5056 2The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus.G2532G1173G1096G1228G2235G906G1519G2588G2455G2469G4613G2443G3860G846 3Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;G2424G1492G3754G3962G1325G3956G1519G846G5495G2532G3754G1831G575G2316G2532G5217G4314G2316 4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.G1453G1537G1173G2532G5087G2440G2532G2983G3012G1241G1438 5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.G1534G906G5204G1519G3537G2532G756G3538G3101G4228G2532G1591G3012G3739G2258G1241 6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"G3767G2064G4314G4613G4074G2532G1565G3004G846G2962G3538G4771G3538G3450G4228 7Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."G2424G611G2532G2036G846G3739G1473G4160G4771G1492G3756G737G1161G1097G3326G5023 8"No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."G4074G3004G846G3538G1519G165G3364G3538G3450G4228G2424G611G846G3362G3538G4571G3362G2192G3756G3313G3326G1700 9"Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"G4613G4074G3004G846G2962G3361G3450G4228G3440G235G2532G5495G2532G2776 10Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you."G2424G3004G846G3068G5532G3756G2192G2228G3538G4228G235G2076G2513G3650G2532G5210G2075G2513G235G3780G3956 11For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.G1063G1492G3588G3860G846G5124G1223G2036G2075G3780G3956G2513 12When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them.G3767G3753G3538G846G4228G2532G2983G846G2440G377G3825G2036G846G1097G5101G4160G5213 13"You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am.G5210G5455G3165G1320G2532G2962G2532G3004G2573G1063G1510 14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.G1487G1473G3767G2962G2532G1320G3538G5216G4228G5210G2532G3784G3538G240G4228 15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.G1063G1325G5213G5262G2443G5210G4160G2531G2532G1473G4160G5213 16I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.G281G281G3004G5213G1401G2076G3756G3187G846G2962G3761G652G3187G3992G846 17Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.G1487G1492G5023G3107G2075G1437G4160G846 18"I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: 'He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'G3004G3756G4012G5216G3956G1473G1492G3739G1586G235G2443G1124G4137G5176G740G3326G1700G1869G846G4418G1909G1691 19"I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He.G575G737G3004G5213G4253G1096G2443G3752G1096G4100G3754G1473G1510 20I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."G281G281G3004G5213G2983G1437G5100G3992G2983G1691G1161G2983G1691G2983G3992G3165 21After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, "I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me."G2424G2036G5023G2036G5015G4151G2532G3140G2532G2036G281G281G3004G5213G3754G1520G1537G5216G3860G3165 22His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant.G3767G3101G991G1519G240G639G4012G5101G3004 23One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.G1161G2258G345G1722G2424G2859G1520G846G3101G3739G2424G25 24Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, "Ask him which one he means."G4613G4074G3767G3506G5129G4441G5101G302G1498G4012G3739G3004 25Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"G1565G1161G1968G1909G2424G4738G3004G846G2962G5101G2076 26Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon.G2424G611G1565G2076G3739G1929G5596G1473G911G2532G1686G5596G1325G2455G2469G4613 27As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. "What you are about to do, do quickly," Jesus told him,G2532G3326G5596G5119G4567G1525G1519G1565G3767G3004G2424G846G3739G4160G4160G5032 28but no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him.G1161G3762G345G1097G4314G5101G2036G5124G846 29Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the Feast, or to give something to the poor.G1063G5100G1380G1893G2455G2192G1101G3754G2424G3004G846G59G3739G2192G5532G1519G1859G2228G2443G1325G5100G4434 30As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.G1565G3767G2983G5596G1831G2112G1831G1161G2258G3571 31When he was gone, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him.G3767G3753G1831G2424G3004G3568G1392G5207G444G1392G2532G2316G1392G1722G846 32If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.G1487G2316G1392G1722G846G2316G1392G2532G1392G846G1722G1438G2532G1392G2117G1392G846 33"My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.G5040G2089G3397G1510G3326G5216G2212G3165G2532G2531G2036G2453G3754G3699G1473G5217G5210G3756G1410G2064G2532G737G3004G5213 34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.G2537G1785G1325G5213G2443G25G240G2531G25G5209G2443G5210G2532G25G240 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."G1722G5129G1097G3956G1097G3754G2075G1699G3101G1437G2192G26G1722G240 36Simon Peter asked him, "Lord, where are you going?" I will lay down my life for you."G4074G3004G846G2962G1302G3756G1410G190G4671G737G5087G3450G5590G5228G4675 38Then Jesus answered, "Will you really lay down your life for me?
