Judas Betrays Jesus

18HAVING SAID these things, Jesus went out with His disciples beyond (across) the winter torrent of the Kidron [in the ravine]. There was a garden there, which He and His disciples entered.G2424G2036G5023G1831G4862G846G3101G4008G5493G2748G3699G2258G2779G1519G3739G846G1525G2532G846G3101
2And Judas, who was betraying Him {and} delivering Him up, also knew the place, because Jesus had often retired there with His disciples.G1161G2455G2532G3588G3860G846G1492G5117G3754G2424G4178G4863G1563G3326G846G3101
3So Judas, obtaining {and} taking charge of the band of soldiers and some guards (attendants) of the high priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.G2455G3767G2983G4686G2532G5257G1537G749G2532G5330G2064G1563G3326G5322G2532G2985G2532G3696
4Then Jesus, knowing all that was about to befall Him, went out to them and said, Whom are you seeking? [Whom do you want?]G2424G3767G1492G3956G2064G1909G846G1831G2036G846G5101G2212
5They answered Him, Jesus the Nazarene. Jesus said to them, I am He. Judas, who was betraying Him, was also standing with them.G611G846G2424G3480G2424G3004G846G1473G1510G1161G2455G2532G3588G3860G846G2476G3326G846
6When Jesus said to them, I am He, they went backwards (drew back, lurched backward) and fell to the ground.G5613G3767G2036G846G3754G1473G1510G565G1519G3694G2532G4098G5476
7Then again He asked them, Whom are you seeking? And they said, Jesus the Nazarene.G3767G1905G846G3825G5101G2212G1161G2036G2424G3480
8Jesus answered, I told you that I am He. So, if you want Me [if it is only I for Whom you are looking], let these men go their way.G2424G611G2036G5213G3754G1473G1510G1487G3767G2212G1691G863G5128G5217
9Thus what He had said was fulfilled {and} verified, Of those whom You have given Me, I have not lost even one.G2443G3056G4137G3739G2036G3754G1537G846G3739G1325G3427G3756G622G3762
10Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.G3767G4613G4074G2192G3162G1670G846G2532G3817G749G1401G2532G609G846G1188G5621G1161G1401G3686G2258G3124
11Therefore, Jesus said to Peter, Put the sword [back] into the sheath! The cup which My Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?G3767G2036G2424G4074G906G4675G3162G1519G2336G4221G3739G3962G1325G3427G4095G3378G4095G846

Jesus before Annas and Caiaphas

12So the troops and their captain and the guards (attendants) of the Jews seized Jesus and bound Him,G3767G4686G2532G5506G2532G5257G2453G4815G2424G2532G1210G846
13And they brought Him first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year.G2532G520G846G520G4314G452G4412G1063G2258G3995G2533G3739G2258G749G1565G1763
14It was Caiaphas who had counseled the Jews that it was expedient {and} for their welfare that one man should die for (instead of, in behalf of) the people.G1161G2533G2258G3588G4823G2453G3754G4851G1520G444G622G5228G2992
15Now Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. And that disciple was known to the high priest, and so he entered along with Jesus into the court of the palace of the high priest;G1161G4613G4074G190G2424G2532G243G3101G1161G1565G3101G2258G1110G749G2532G4897G2424G1519G833G749
16But Peter was standing outside at the door. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the maid who kept the door and brought Peter inside.G1161G4074G2476G4314G2374G1854G3767G1831G243G3101G3739G2258G1110G749G2532G2036G2377G2532G1521G4074
17Then the maid who was in charge at the door said to Peter, You are not also one of the disciples of this Man, are you? He said, I am not!G3767G3004G3814G2377G4074G1488G3361G4771G2532G1537G5127G444G3101G1565G3004G1510G3756
18Now the servants and the guards (the attendants) had made a fire of coals, for it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. And Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.G1161G1401G2532G5257G2476G4160G439G3754G2258G5592G2532G2328G1161G4074G2258G2476G3326G846G2532G2328
19Then the high priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and about His teaching.G749G3767G2065G2424G4012G846G3101G2532G4012G846G1322
20Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in a synagogue and in the temple [area], where the Jews [habitually] congregate (assemble); and I have spoken nothing secretly.G2424G611G846G1473G2980G3954G2889G1473G3842G1321G1722G4864G2532G1722G2411G3699G2453G3842G4905G2532G1722G2927G2980G3762
21Why do you ask Me? Ask those who have heard [Me] what I said to them. See! They know what I said.G5101G1905G3165G1905G191G5101G2980G846G2396G3778G1492G3739G1473G2036
22But when He said this, one of the attendants who stood by struck Jesus, saying, Is that how You answer the high priest?G1161G846G2036G5023G2036G1520G5257G3936G1325G4475G2424G1325G4475G2036G611G749G3779
23Jesus replied, If I have said anything wrong [if I have spoken abusively, if there was evil in what I said] tell what was wrong with it. But if I spoke rightly {and} properly, why do you strike Me?G2424G611G846G1487G2980G2560G3140G4012G2556G1161G1487G2573G5101G1194G3165
24Then Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.G452G649G846G1210G4314G2533G749

Peter’s Denial of Jesus

25But Simon Peter [still] was standing and was warming himself. They said to him, You are not also one of His disciples, are you? He denied it and said, I am not!G1161G4613G4074G2258G2476G2532G2328G2036G3767G846G1488G3361G4771G2532G1537G846G3101G1565G720G2532G2036G1510G3756
26One of the high priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter cut off, said, Did I not see you in the garden with Him?G1520G1537G1401G749G5607G4773G3739G5621G4074G609G3004G1492G3756G1473G1492G4571G1722G2779G3326G846
27And again Peter denied it. And immediately a rooster crowed.G4074G3767G720G3825G2532G2112G220G5455

Jesus before Pilate

28Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium (judgment hall, governor's palace). And it was early. They themselves did not enter the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled (become ceremonially unclean), but might be fit to eat the Passover [supper].G3767G71G2424G575G2533G1519G4232G1161G2258G4405G2532G846G1525G3756G1519G4232G3363G3392G235G2443G5315G3957
29So Pilate went out to them and said, What accusation do you bring against this Man?G4091G3767G1831G4314G846G2532G2036G5101G2724G5342G2596G5127G444
30They retorted, If He were not an evildoer (criminal), we would not have handed Him over to you.G611G2532G2036G846G1508G3778G2258G1508G2555G302G3756G3860G846G3860G4671
31Pilate said to them, Take Him yourselves and judge {and} sentence {and} punish Him according to your [own] law. The Jews answered, It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.G3767G2036G4091G846G2983G5210G846G2532G2919G846G2596G5216G3551G2453G3767G2036G846G1832G3756G1832G2254G615G3762G615
32This was to fulfill the word which Jesus had spoken to show (indicate, predict) by what manner of death He was to die.G2443G3056G2424G4137G3739G2036G4591G4169G2288G3195G599
33So Pilate went back again into the judgment hall and called Jesus and asked Him, Are You the King of the Jews?G3767G4091G1525G1519G4232G3825G2532G5455G2424G2532G2036G846G1488G4771G935G2453
34Jesus replied, Are you saying this of yourself [on your own initiative], or have others told you about Me?G2424G611G846G3004G4771G5124G575G1438G2228G243G2036G4671G4012G1700
35Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Your [own] people {and} nation and their chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?G4091G611G3385G1510G1473G2453G4674G1484G2532G749G3860G4571G1698G5101G4160
36Jesus answered, My kingdom (kingship, royal power) belongs not to this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My followers would have been fighting to keep Me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, My kingdom is not from here (this world); [it has no such origin or source].G2424G611G1699G932G2076G3756G1537G5127G2889G1487G1699G932G2258G1537G5127G2889G302G1699G5257G75G3363G3860G3363G3860G2453G1161G3568G2076G1699G932G3756G1782
37Pilate said to Him, Then You are a King? Jesus answered, You say it! [You speak correctly!] For I am a King. [Certainly I am a King!] This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth [who is a friend of the Truth, who belongs to the Truth] hears {and} listens to My voice.G4091G3767G2036G846G1488G4771G935G3766G2424G611G4771G3004G3754G1473G1510G935G1519G5124G1080G1473G1080G2532G1519G5124G2064G1519G2889G2443G3140G225G3956G5607G1537G225G191G3450G5456
38Pilate said to Him, What is Truth? On saying this he went out to the Jews again and told them, I find no fault in Him.G4091G3004G846G5101G2076G225G2532G2036G5124G1831G3825G4314G2453G2532G3004G846G1473G2147G1722G846G3762G156
39But it is your custom that I release one [prisoner] for you at the Passover. So shall I release for you the King of the Jews?G1161G5213G2076G4914G2443G630G5213G1520G1722G3957G1014G3767G630G5213G935G2453
40Then they all shouted back again, Not Him [not this Man], but Barabbas! Now Barabbas was a robber.G3767G2905G3956G3825G3004G3361G5126G235G912G1161G912G2258G3027
