Jesus and the Woman of Samaria

4Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than JohnG5613G3767G2962G1097G3754G5330G191G3754G2424G4160G2532G907G4119G3101G2228G2491 2(although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples),G2544G2424G846G907G3756G235G846G3101 3he left Judea and departed again for Galilee.G863G2449G2532G565G3825G1519G1056 4And he had to pass through Samaria.G1161G1163G1330G1223G4540 5So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.G3767G2064G1519G4172G4540G3004G4965G4139G5564G3739G2384G1325G846G5207G2501 6Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.G1161G2384G4077G2258G1563G2424G3767G2872G1537G3597G2516G3779G1909G4077G2258G5616G1623G5610 7A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."G2064G1135G1537G4540G501G5204G2424G3004G846G1325G3427G4095 8(For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.)G1063G846G3101G565G1519G4172G2443G59G5160 9The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)G3767G3004G1135G4542G846G4459G4771G5607G2453G154G4095G3844G1700G5607G1135G4542G1063G2453G4798G3756G4798G4541 10Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."G2424G611G2532G2036G846G1487G1492G1431G2316G2532G5101G2076G3004G4671G1325G3427G4095G4771G302G154G846G2532G302G1325G4671G2198G5204 11The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?G1135G3004G846G2962G2192G3777G502G2532G5421G2076G901G4159G3767G2192G2198G5204 12Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock."G3361G1488G4771G3187G2257G3962G2384G3739G1325G2254G5421G2532G4095G1537G846G846G2532G846G5207G2532G846G2353 13Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again,G2424G611G2532G2036G846G3956G4095G1537G5127G5204G1372G3825 14but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."G1161G3739G302G4095G1537G5204G3739G1473G1325G846G1372G1519G165G3364G1372G235G5204G3739G1325G846G1096G1722G846G4077G5204G242G1519G166G2222 15The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water."G1135G3004G4314G846G2962G1325G3427G5124G5204G3363G1372G3363G3366G2064G1759G501 16Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here."G2424G3004G846G5217G5455G4675G435G2532G2064G1759 17The woman answered him, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You are right in saying, 'I have no husband';G1135G611G2532G2036G2192G3756G435G2424G3004G846G2036G2573G2036G3754G2192G3756G435 18for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true."G1063G2192G4002G435G2532G3739G2192G3568G2192G2076G3756G4675G435G5124G2046G227 19The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.G1135G3004G846G2962G2334G3754G4771G1488G4396 20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship."G2257G3962G4352G1722G5129G3735G2532G5210G3004G3754G1722G2414G2076G5117G3699G1163G4352 21Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.G2424G3004G846G1135G4100G3427G5610G3754G2064G3753G4352G3777G1722G5129G3735G3777G1722G2414G4352G3962 22You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.G5210G4352G1492G3756G3739G1492G3739G2249G4352G3754G4991G2076G1537G2453 23But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.G235G5610G2064G2532G3568G2076G3753G228G4353G4352G3962G1722G4151G2532G225G2532G1063G3962G2212G5108G4352G846 24God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."G2316G4151G2532G4352G846G1163G4352G1722G4151G2532G225 25The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things."G1135G3004G846G1492G3754G3323G2064G3588G3004G5547G3752G1565G2064G312G2254G3956 26Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am he."G2424G3004G846G1473G2980G4671G1510 27Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, "What do you seek?" or, "Why are you talking with her?"G2532G1909G5129G2064G846G3101G2532G2296G3754G2980G3326G1135G3305G3762G2036G5101G2212G2228G5101G2980G3326G846 28So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people,G1135G3767G863G846G5201G2532G565G1519G4172G2532G3004G444 29"Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?"G1205G1492G444G3739G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160G2076G3385G3778G5547 30They went out of the town and were coming to him.G3767G1831G1537G4172G2532G2064G4314G846 31Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, "Rabbi, eat."G1161G1722G3342G3101G2065G846G3004G4461G5315 32But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about."G1161G2036G846G1473G2192G1035G5315G3739G5210G1492G3756G1492 33So the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought him something to eat?"G3767G3004G3101G4314G240G5342G3387G5342G846G5315 34Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.G2424G3004G846G1699G1033G2076G2443G4160G2307G3992G3165G2532G5048G846G2041 35Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.G3004G3756G5210G3754G2076G2089G5072G2532G2064G2326G2400G3004G5213G1869G5216G3788G2532G2300G5561G3754G1526G3022G2235G4314G2326 36Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.G2532G2325G2983G3408G2532G4863G2590G1519G2222G166G2443G2532G4687G2532G2325G5463G3674 37For here the saying holds true, 'One sows and another reaps.'G1063G1722G5129G2076G3056G228G3754G243G2076G4687G2532G243G2325 38I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor."G1473G649G5209G2325G3739G5210G2872G3756G2872G243G2872G2532G5210G1525G1519G846G2873 39Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me all that I ever did."G1161G4183G4541G1537G1565G4172G4100G1519G846G1223G3056G1135G3140G3754G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160 40So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.G3767G5613G4541G2064G4314G846G2065G846G3306G3844G846G2532G3306G1563G1417G2250 41And many more believed because of his word.G2532G4183G4119G4100G1223G846G3056 42They said to the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world."G5037G3004G1135G3754G3765G4100G3754G1223G4674G2981G1063G191G846G2532G1492G3754G3778G2076G230G5547G4990G2889 43After the two days he departed for Galilee.G1161G3326G1417G2250G565G1831G1564G2532G1519G1056 44(For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.)G1063G2424G846G3140G3754G4396G2192G3756G5092G1722G2398G3968 45So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For they too had gone to the feast.G3767G3753G2064G1519G1056G1057G1209G846G3708G3956G3739G4160G1722G2414G1722G1859G1063G846G2532G2064G1519G1859

Jesus Heals an Official’s Son

46So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill.G3767G2424G2064G3825G1519G2580G1056G3699G4160G5204G3631G2532G2258G5100G937G3739G5207G770G1722G2584 47When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.G3778G191G3754G2424G2240G1537G2449G1519G1056G565G4314G846G2532G2065G846G2443G2597G2532G2390G846G5207G1063G3195G599 48So Jesus said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe."G3767G2036G2424G4314G846G3362G1492G4592G2532G5059G4100G3364G4100 49The official said to him, "Sir, come down before my child dies."G937G3004G4314G846G2962G2597G4250G3450G3813G599 50Jesus said to him, "Go; your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.G2424G3004G846G4198G4675G5207G2198G2532G444G4100G3056G3739G2424G2036G846G2532G4198 51As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering.G1161G846G2235G2597G846G1401G528G846G2532G518G3004G3754G4675G3816G2198 52So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him."G3767G4441G3844G846G5610G1722G3739G2192G2866G2532G2036G846G3754G5504G1442G5610G4446G863G846 53The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live." And he himself believed, and all his household.G3767G3962G1097G3754G1722G1565G5610G1722G3739G2424G2036G846G3754G4675G5207G2198G2532G846G4100G2532G846G3650G3614 54This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.G5124G3825G1208G4592G2424G4160G2064G1537G2449G1519G1056
