Jesus and the Samaritan Woman

4The Pharisees heard that Jesus was winning and baptizing more disciples than John.G5613G3767G2962G1097G3754G5330G191G3754G2424G4160G2532G907G4119G3101G2228G2491
2(Actually, Jesus himself did not baptize anyone; only his disciples did.)G2544G2424G846G907G3756G235G846G3101
3So when Jesus heard what was being said, he left Judea and went back to Galilee;G863G2449G2532G565G3825G1519G1056
4on his way there he had to go through Samaria.G1161G1163G1330G1223G4540
5In Samaria he came to a town named Sychar, which was not far from the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.G3767G2064G1519G4172G4540G3004G4965G4139G5564G3739G2384G1325G846G5207G2501
6Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired out by the trip, sat down by the well. It was about noon.G1161G2384G4077G2258G1563G2424G3767G2872G1537G3597G2516G3779G1909G4077G2258G5616G1623G5610
7A Samaritan woman came to draw some water, and Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink of water."G2064G1135G1537G4540G501G5204G2424G3004G846G1325G3427G4095
8(His disciples had gone into town to buy food.)G1063G846G3101G565G1519G4172G2443G59G5160
9The woman answered, "You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan - -so how can you ask me for a drink?" (Jews will not use the same cups and bowls that Samaritans use.)G3767G3004G1135G4542G846G4459G4771G5607G2453G154G4095G3844G1700G5607G1135G4542G1063G2453G4798G3756G4798G4541
10Jesus answered, "If you only knew what God gives and who it is that is asking you for a drink, you would ask him, and he would give you life-giving water."G2424G611G2532G2036G846G1487G1492G1431G2316G2532G5101G2076G3004G4671G1325G3427G4095G4771G302G154G846G2532G302G1325G4671G2198G5204
11"Sir," the woman said, "you don't have a bucket, and the well is deep. Where would you get that life-giving water?G1135G3004G846G2962G2192G3777G502G2532G5421G2076G901G4159G3767G2192G2198G5204
12It was our ancestor Jacob who gave us this well; he and his children and his flocks all drank from it. You don't claim to be greater than Jacob, do you?"G3361G1488G4771G3187G2257G3962G2384G3739G1325G2254G5421G2532G4095G1537G846G846G2532G846G5207G2532G846G2353
13Jesus answered, "Those who drink this water will get thirsty again,G2424G611G2532G2036G846G3956G4095G1537G5127G5204G1372G3825
14but those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give them will become in them a spring which will provide them with life-giving water and give them eternal life."G1161G3739G302G4095G1537G5204G3739G1473G1325G846G1372G1519G165G3364G1372G235G5204G3739G1325G846G1096G1722G846G4077G5204G242G1519G166G2222
15"Sir," the woman said, "give me that water! Then I will never be thirsty again, nor will I have to come here to draw water."G1135G3004G4314G846G2962G1325G3427G5124G5204G3363G1372G3363G3366G2064G1759G501
16"Go and call your husband," Jesus told her, "and come back."G2424G3004G846G5217G5455G4675G435G2532G2064G1759
17"I don't have a husband," she answered. Jesus replied, "You are right when you say you don't have a husband.G1135G611G2532G2036G2192G3756G435G2424G3004G846G2036G2573G2036G3754G2192G3756G435
18You have been married to five men, and the man you live with now is not really your husband. You have told me the truth."G1063G2192G4002G435G2532G3739G2192G3568G2192G2076G3756G4675G435G5124G2046G227
19"I see you are a prophet, sir," the woman said.G1135G3004G846G2962G2334G3754G4771G1488G4396
20"My Samaritan ancestors worshiped God on this mountain, but you Jews say that Jerusalem is the place where we should worship God."G2257G3962G4352G1722G5129G3735G2532G5210G3004G3754G1722G2414G2076G5117G3699G1163G4352
21Jesus said to her, "Believe me, woman, the time will come when people will not worship the Father either on this mountain or in Jerusalem.G2424G3004G846G1135G4100G3427G5610G3754G2064G3753G4352G3777G1722G5129G3735G3777G1722G2414G4352G3962
22You Samaritans do not really know whom you worship; but we Jews know whom we worship, because it is from the Jews that salvation comes.G5210G4352G1492G3756G3739G1492G3739G2249G4352G3754G4991G2076G1537G2453
23But the time is coming and is already here, when by the power of God's Spirit people will worship the Father as he really is, offering him the true worship that he wants.G235G5610G2064G2532G3568G2076G3753G228G4353G4352G3962G1722G4151G2532G225G2532G1063G3962G2212G5108G4352G846
24God is Spirit, and only by the power of his Spirit can people worship him as he really is."G2316G4151G2532G4352G846G1163G4352G1722G4151G2532G225
25The woman said to him, "I know that the Messiah will come, and when he comes, he will tell us everything."G1135G3004G846G1492G3754G3323G2064G3588G3004G5547G3752G1565G2064G312G2254G3956
26Jesus answered, "I am he, I who am talking with you."G2424G3004G846G1473G2980G4671G1510
27At that moment Jesus' disciples returned, and they were greatly surprised to find him talking with a woman. But none of them said to her, "What do you want?" or asked him, "Why are you talking with her?"G2532G1909G5129G2064G846G3101G2532G2296G3754G2980G3326G1135G3305G3762G2036G5101G2212G2228G5101G2980G3326G846
28Then the woman left her water jar, went back to the town, and said to the people there,G1135G3767G863G846G5201G2532G565G1519G4172G2532G3004G444
29"Come and see the man who told me everything I have ever done. Could he be the Messiah?"G1205G1492G444G3739G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160G2076G3385G3778G5547
30So they left the town and went to Jesus.G3767G1831G1537G4172G2532G2064G4314G846
31In the meantime the disciples were begging Jesus, "Teacher, have something to eat!"G1161G1722G3342G3101G2065G846G3004G4461G5315
32But he answered, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about."G1161G2036G846G1473G2192G1035G5315G3739G5210G1492G3756G1492
33So the disciples started asking among themselves, "Could somebody have brought him food?"G3767G3004G3101G4314G240G5342G3387G5342G846G5315
34"My food," Jesus said to them, "is to obey the will of the one who sent me and to finish the work he gave me to do.G2424G3004G846G1699G1033G2076G2443G4160G2307G3992G3165G2532G5048G846G2041
35You have a saying, 'Four more months and then the harvest.' But I tell you, take a good look at the fields; the crops are now ripe and ready to be harvested!G3004G3756G5210G3754G2076G2089G5072G2532G2064G2326G2400G3004G5213G1869G5216G3788G2532G2300G5561G3754G1526G3022G2235G4314G2326
36The one who reaps the harvest is being paid and gathers the crops for eternal life; so the one who plants and the one who reaps will be glad together.G2532G2325G2983G3408G2532G4863G2590G1519G2222G166G2443G2532G4687G2532G2325G5463G3674
37For the saying is true, 'Someone plants, someone else reaps.'G1063G1722G5129G2076G3056G228G3754G243G2076G4687G2532G243G2325
38I have sent you to reap a harvest in a field where you did not work; others worked there, and you profit from their work."G1473G649G5209G2325G3739G5210G2872G3756G2872G243G2872G2532G5210G1525G1519G846G2873
39Many of the Samaritans in that town believed in Jesus because the woman had said, "He told me everything I have ever done."G1161G4183G4541G1537G1565G4172G4100G1519G846G1223G3056G1135G3140G3754G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160
40So when the Samaritans came to him, they begged him to stay with them, and Jesus stayed there two days.G3767G5613G4541G2064G4314G846G2065G846G3306G3844G846G2532G3306G1563G1417G2250
41Many more believed because of his message,G2532G4183G4119G4100G1223G846G3056
42and they told the woman, "We believe now, not because of what you said, but because we ourselves have heard him, and we know that he really is the Savior of the world."G5037G3004G1135G3754G3765G4100G3754G1223G4674G2981G1063G191G846G2532G1492G3754G3778G2076G230G5547G4990G2889

Jesus Heals an Official’s Son

43After spending two days there, Jesus left and went to Galilee.G1161G3326G1417G2250G565G1831G1564G2532G1519G1056
44For he himself had said, "Prophets are not respected in their own country."G1063G2424G846G3140G3754G4396G2192G3756G5092G1722G2398G3968
45When he arrived in Galilee, the people there welcomed him, because they had gone to the Passover Festival in Jerusalem and had seen everything that he had done during the festival.G3767G3753G2064G1519G1056G1057G1209G846G3708G3956G3739G4160G1722G2414G1722G1859G1063G846G2532G2064G1519G1859
46Then Jesus went back to Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. A government official was there whose son was sick in Capernaum.G3767G2424G2064G3825G1519G2580G1056G3699G4160G5204G3631G2532G2258G5100G937G3739G5207G770G1722G2584
47When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to go to Capernaum and heal his son, who was about to die.G3778G191G3754G2424G2240G1537G2449G1519G1056G565G4314G846G2532G2065G846G2443G2597G2532G2390G846G5207G1063G3195G599
48Jesus said to him, "None of you will ever believe unless you see miracles and wonders."G3767G2036G2424G4314G846G3362G1492G4592G2532G5059G4100G3364G4100
49"Sir," replied the official, "come with me before my child dies."G937G3004G4314G846G2962G2597G4250G3450G3813G599
50Jesus said to him, "Go; your son will live!" The man believed Jesus' words and went.G2424G3004G846G4198G4675G5207G2198G2532G444G4100G3056G3739G2424G2036G846G2532G4198
51On his way home his servants met him with the news, "Your boy is going to live!"G1161G846G2235G2597G846G1401G528G846G2532G518G3004G3754G4675G3816G2198
52He asked them what time it was when his son got better, and they answered, "It was one o'clock yesterday afternoon when the fever left him."G3767G4441G3844G846G5610G1722G3739G2192G2866G2532G2036G846G3754G5504G1442G5610G4446G863G846
53Then the father remembered that it was at that very hour when Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." So he and all his family believed.G3767G3962G1097G3754G1722G1565G5610G1722G3739G2424G2036G846G3754G4675G5207G2198G2532G846G4100G2532G846G3650G3614
54This was the second miracle that Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.G5124G3825G1208G4592G2424G4160G2064G1537G2449G1519G1056
