Jesus Meets a Samaritan Woman

4Now when Jesus realized that the Pharisees had heard he was making and baptizing more disciples than John -G5613G3767G2962G1097G3754G5330G191G3754G2424G4160G2532G907G4119G3101G2228G2491
2although it was not Jesus who did the baptizing but his disciples -G2544G2424G846G907G3756G235G846G3101
3he left Judea and went back to Galilee.G863G2449G2532G565G3825G1519G1056
4Now it was necessary for him to go through Samaria.G1161G1163G1330G1223G4540
5So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the piece of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.G3767G2064G1519G4172G4540G3004G4965G4139G5564G3739G2384G1325G846G5207G2501
6Jacob's Well was also there, and Jesus, tired out by the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.G1161G2384G4077G2258G1563G2424G3767G2872G1537G3597G2516G3779G1909G4077G2258G5616G1623G5610
7A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Please give me a drink,"G2064G1135G1537G4540G501G5204G2424G3004G846G1325G3427G4095
8since his disciples had gone off into town to buy food.G1063G846G3101G565G1519G4172G2443G59G5160
9The Samaritan woman asked him, "How can you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" Because Jews do not have anything to do with Samaritans.G3767G3004G1135G4542G846G4459G4771G5607G2453G154G4095G3844G1700G5607G1135G4542G1063G2453G4798G3756G4798G4541
10Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, 'Please give me a drink,' you would have been the one to ask him, and he would have given you living water."G2424G611G2532G2036G846G1487G1492G1431G2316G2532G5101G2076G3004G4671G1325G3427G4095G4771G302G154G846G2532G302G1325G4671G2198G5204
11The woman said to him, "Sir, you don't have a bucket, and the well is deep. Where are you going to get this living water -G1135G3004G846G2962G2192G3777G502G2532G5421G2076G901G4159G3767G2192G2198G5204
12You're not greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it, along with his sons and his flocks, are you?"G3361G1488G4771G3187G2257G3962G2384G3739G1325G2254G5421G2532G4095G1537G846G846G2532G846G5207G2532G846G2353
13Jesus answered her, "Everyone who drinks this water will become thirsty again.G2424G611G2532G2036G846G3956G4095G1537G5127G5204G1372G3825
14But whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never become thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become a well of water for him, springing up to eternal life."G1161G3739G302G4095G1537G5204G3739G1473G1325G846G1372G1519G165G3364G1372G235G5204G3739G1325G846G1096G1722G846G4077G5204G242G1519G166G2222
15The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I won't get thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water."G1135G3004G4314G846G2962G1325G3427G5124G5204G3363G1372G3363G3366G2064G1759G501
16He said to her, "Go and call your husband, and come back here."G2424G3004G846G5217G5455G4675G435G2532G2064G1759
17The woman answered him, "I don't have a husband." Jesus said to her, "You are quite right in saying, 'I don't have a husband,'G1135G611G2532G2036G2192G3756G435G2424G3004G846G2036G2573G2036G3754G2192G3756G435
18because you have had five husbands, and the man you have now is not your husband. What you have said is true."G1063G2192G4002G435G2532G3739G2192G3568G2192G2076G3756G4675G435G5124G2046G227
19The woman said to him, "Sir, I see that you are a prophet!G1135G3004G846G2962G2334G3754G4771G1488G4396
20Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain. But you Jews say that the place where people should worship is in Jerusalem."G2257G3962G4352G1722G5129G3735G2532G5210G3004G3754G1722G2414G2076G5117G3699G1163G4352
21Jesus said to her, "Believe me, dear lady, the hour is coming when you Samaritans will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.G2424G3004G846G1135G4100G3427G5610G3754G2064G3753G4352G3777G1722G5129G3735G3777G1722G2414G4352G3962
22You don't know what you're worshiping. We Jews know what we're worshiping, because salvation comes from the Jews.G5210G4352G1492G3756G3739G1492G3739G2249G4352G3754G4991G2076G1537G2453
23Yet the time is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Indeed, the Father is looking for people like that to worship him.G235G5610G2064G2532G3568G2076G3753G228G4353G4352G3962G1722G4151G2532G225G2532G1063G3962G2212G5108G4352G846
24God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."G2316G4151G2532G4352G846G1163G4352G1722G4151G2532G225
25The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming, who is being called 'Christ'. When that person comes, he will explain everything."G1135G3004G846G1492G3754G3323G2064G3588G3004G5547G3752G1565G2064G312G2254G3956
26"I am he," Jesus replied, "the one who is speaking to you."G2424G3004G846G1473G2980G4671G1510
27At this point his disciples arrived, and they were amazed that he was talking to a woman. Yet no one said, "What do you want from her?" or, "Why are you talking to her?"G2532G1909G5129G2064G846G3101G2532G2296G3754G2980G3326G1135G3305G3762G2036G5101G2212G2228G5101G2980G3326G846
28Then the woman left her water jar and went back to town. She told people,G1135G3767G863G846G5201G2532G565G1519G4172G2532G3004G444
29"Come, see a man who told me everything I've ever done! Could he possibly be the Messiah?"G1205G1492G444G3739G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160G2076G3385G3778G5547
30The people left the town and started on their way to him.G3767G1831G1537G4172G2532G2064G4314G846
31Meanwhile, the disciples were urging him, "Rabbi, have something to eat."G1161G1722G3342G3101G2065G846G3004G4461G5315
32But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about."G1161G2036G846G1473G2192G1035G5315G3739G5210G1492G3756G1492
33So the disciples began to say to one another, "No one has brought him anything to eat, have they?"G3767G3004G3101G4314G240G5342G3387G5342G846G5315
34Jesus told them, "My food is doing the will of the one who sent me and completing his work.G2424G3004G846G1699G1033G2076G2443G4160G2307G3992G3165G2532G5048G846G2041
35You say, don't you, 'In four more months the harvest will begin?' Look, I tell you, open your eyes and observe that the fields are ready for harvesting now!G3004G3756G5210G3754G2076G2089G5072G2532G2064G2326G2400G3004G5213G1869G5216G3788G2532G2300G5561G3754G1526G3022G2235G4314G2326
36The one who harvests is already receiving his wages and gathering a crop for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who harvests may rejoice together.G2532G2325G2983G3408G2532G4863G2590G1519G2222G166G2443G2532G4687G2532G2325G5463G3674
37In this respect the saying is true: 'One person sows, and another person harvests.'G1063G1722G5129G2076G3056G228G3754G243G2076G4687G2532G243G2325
38I have sent you to harvest what you have not worked for. Others have worked, and you have adopted their work as your own."G1473G649G5209G2325G3739G5210G2872G3756G2872G243G2872G2532G5210G1525G1519G846G2873
39Now many of the Samaritans of that town believed in Jesus because the woman had testified, "He told me everything I've ever done."G1161G4183G4541G1537G1565G4172G4100G1519G846G1223G3056G1135G3140G3754G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160
40So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there for two days.G3767G5613G4541G2064G4314G846G2065G846G3306G3844G846G2532G3306G1563G1417G2250
41And many more believed because of what he said.G2532G4183G4119G4100G1223G846G3056
42They kept telling the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, because now we have heard him ourselves, and we know that he really is the Savior of the world."G5037G3004G1135G3754G3765G4100G3754G1223G4674G2981G1063G191G846G2532G1492G3754G3778G2076G230G5547G4990G2889

Jesus Heals an Official’s Son

43Two days later, Jesus left for Galilee from there,G1161G3326G1417G2250G565G1831G1564G2532G1519G1056
44since Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.G1063G2424G846G3140G3754G4396G2192G3756G5092G1722G2398G3968
45When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him because they had seen everything that he had done in Jerusalem during the festival and because they, too, had gone to the festival.G3767G3753G2064G1519G1056G1057G1209G846G3708G3956G3739G4160G1722G2414G1722G1859G1063G846G2532G2064G1519G1859
46So Jesus returned to Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. Meanwhile, in Capernaum there was a government official whose son was ill.G3767G2424G2064G3825G1519G2580G1056G3699G4160G5204G3631G2532G2258G5100G937G3739G5207G770G1722G2584
47When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him repeatedly to come down and heal his son, because he was about to die.G3778G191G3754G2424G2240G1537G2449G1519G1056G565G4314G846G2532G2065G846G2443G2597G2532G2390G846G5207G1063G3195G599
48Jesus told him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe."G3767G2036G2424G4314G846G3362G1492G4592G2532G5059G4100G3364G4100
49The official said to him, "Sir, please come down before my little boy dies."G937G3004G4314G846G2962G2597G4250G3450G3813G599
50Jesus said to him, "Go home. Your son will live." The man believed what Jesus told him and started back home.G2424G3004G846G4198G4675G5207G2198G2532G444G4100G3056G3739G2424G2036G846G2532G4198
51While he was on his way, his servants met him and told him that his child was alive.G1161G846G2235G2597G846G1401G528G846G2532G518G3004G3754G4675G3816G2198
52So he asked them at what hour he had begun to recover, and they told him, "The fever left him yesterday at one o'clock in the afternoon."G3767G4441G3844G846G5610G1722G3739G2192G2866G2532G2036G846G3754G5504G1442G5610G4446G863G846
53Then the father realized that this was the very hour when Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." So he himself believed, along with his whole family.4G3767G3962G1097G3754G1722G1565G5610G1722G3739G2424G2036G846G3754G4675G5207G2198G2532G846G4100G2532G846G3650G3614
54Now this was the second sign that Jesus did after coming from Judea to Galilee.G5124G3825G1208G4592G2424G4160G2064G1537G2449G1519G1056
