Jesus and the Samaritan Woman

4When Jesus knew that the Pharisees heard He was making and baptizing more disciples than JohnG5613G3767G2962G1097G3754G5330G191G3754G2424G4160G2532G907G4119G3101G2228G2491
2(though Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were),G2544G2424G846G907G3756G235G846G3101
3He left Judea and went again to Galilee.G863G2449G2532G565G3825G1519G1056
4He had to travel through Samaria,G1161G1163G1330G1223G4540
5so He came to a town of Samaria called Sychar near the property that Jacob had given his son Joseph.G3767G2064G1519G4172G4540G3004G4965G4139G5564G3739G2384G1325G846G5207G2501
6Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, worn out from His journey, sat down at the well. It was about six in the evening.G1161G2384G4077G2258G1563G2424G3767G2872G1537G3597G2516G3779G1909G4077G2258G5616G1623G5610
7A woman of Samaria came to draw water. "Give Me a drink," Jesus said to her,G2064G1135G1537G4540G501G5204G2424G3004G846G1325G3427G4095
8for His disciples had gone into town to buy food.G1063G846G3101G565G1519G4172G2443G59G5160
9"How is it that You, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" she asked Him. For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.G3767G3004G1135G4542G846G4459G4771G5607G2453G154G4095G3844G1700G5607G1135G4542G1063G2453G4798G3756G4798G4541
10Jesus answered, "If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would ask Him, and He would give you living water."G2424G611G2532G2036G846G1487G1492G1431G2316G2532G5101G2076G3004G4671G1325G3427G4095G4771G302G154G846G2532G302G1325G4671G2198G5204
11"Sir," said the woman, "You don't even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do you get this 'living water'?G1135G3004G846G2962G2192G3777G502G2532G5421G2076G901G4159G3767G2192G2198G5204
12You aren't greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock."G3361G1488G4771G3187G2257G3962G2384G3739G1325G2254G5421G2532G4095G1537G846G846G2532G846G5207G2532G846G2353
13Jesus said, "Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again.G2424G611G2532G2036G846G3956G4095G1537G5127G5204G1372G3825
14But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again— ever! In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up within him for eternal life."G1161G3739G302G4095G1537G5204G3739G1473G1325G846G1372G1519G165G3364G1372G235G5204G3739G1325G846G1096G1722G846G4077G5204G242G1519G166G2222
15"Sir," the woman said to Him, "give me this water so I won't get thirsty and come here to draw water."G1135G3004G4314G846G2962G1325G3427G5124G5204G3363G1372G3363G3366G2064G1759G501
16"Go call your husband," He told her, "and come back here."G2424G3004G846G5217G5455G4675G435G2532G2064G1759
17"I don't have a husband," she answered. "You have correctly said, 'I don't have a husband,' " Jesus said.G1135G611G2532G2036G2192G3756G435G2424G3004G846G2036G2573G2036G3754G2192G3756G435
18"For you've had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true."G1063G2192G4002G435G2532G3739G2192G3568G2192G2076G3756G4675G435G5124G2046G227
19"Sir," the woman replied, "I see that You are a prophet.G1135G3004G846G2962G2334G3754G4771G1488G4396
20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, yet you [Jews] say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem."G2257G3962G4352G1722G5129G3735G2532G5210G3004G3754G1722G2414G2076G5117G3699G1163G4352
21Jesus told her, "Believe Me, woman, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.G2424G3004G846G1135G4100G3427G5610G3754G2064G3753G4352G3777G1722G5129G3735G3777G1722G2414G4352G3962
22You Samaritans worship what you do not know. We worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews.G5210G4352G1492G3756G3739G1492G3739G2249G4352G3754G4991G2076G1537G2453
23But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship Him.G235G5610G2064G2532G3568G2076G3753G228G4353G4352G3962G1722G4151G2532G225G2532G1063G3962G2212G5108G4352G846
24God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."G2316G4151G2532G4352G846G1163G4352G1722G4151G2532G225
25The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will explain everything to us."G1135G3004G846G1492G3754G3323G2064G3588G3004G5547G3752G1565G2064G312G2254G3956
26"I am [He]," Jesus told her, "the One speaking to you."G2424G3004G846G1473G2980G4671G1510

The Ripened Harvest

27Just then His disciples arrived, and they were amazed that He was talking with a woman. Yet no one said, "What do You want?" or "Why are You talking with her?"G2532G1909G5129G2064G846G3101G2532G2296G3754G2980G3326G1135G3305G3762G2036G5101G2212G2228G5101G2980G3326G846
28Then the woman left her water jar, went into town, and told the men,G1135G3767G863G846G5201G2532G565G1519G4172G2532G3004G444
29"Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could this be the Messiah?"G1205G1492G444G3739G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160G2076G3385G3778G5547
30They left the town and made their way to Him.G3767G1831G1537G4172G2532G2064G4314G846
31In the meantime the disciples kept urging Him, "Rabbi, eat something."G1161G1722G3342G3101G2065G846G3004G4461G5315
32But He said, "I have food to eat that you don't know about."G1161G2036G846G1473G2192G1035G5315G3739G5210G1492G3756G1492
33The disciples said to one another, "Could someone have brought Him something to eat?"G3767G3004G3101G4314G240G5342G3387G5342G846G5315
34"My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work," Jesus told them.G2424G3004G846G1699G1033G2076G2443G4160G2307G3992G3165G2532G5048G846G2041
35"Don't you say, 'There are still four more months, then comes the harvest'? Listen [to what] I'm telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest.G3004G3756G5210G3754G2076G2089G5072G2532G2064G2326G2400G3004G5213G1869G5216G3788G2532G2300G5561G3754G1526G3022G2235G4314G2326
36The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life, so the sower and reaper can rejoice together.G2532G2325G2983G3408G2532G4863G2590G1519G2222G166G2443G2532G4687G2532G2325G5463G3674
37For in this case the saying is true: 'One sows and another reaps.'G1063G1722G5129G2076G3056G228G3754G243G2076G4687G2532G243G2325
38I sent you to reap what you didn't labor for; others have labored, and you have benefited from their labor."G1473G649G5209G2325G3739G5210G2872G3756G2872G243G2872G2532G5210G1525G1519G846G2873

The Savior of the World

39Now many Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of what the woman said when she testified, "He told me everything I ever did."G1161G4183G4541G1537G1565G4172G4100G1519G846G1223G3056G1135G3140G3754G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160
40Therefore, when the Samaritans came to Him, they asked Him to stay with them, and He stayed there two days.G3767G5613G4541G2064G4314G846G2065G846G3306G3844G846G2532G3306G1563G1417G2250
41Many more believed because of what He said.G2532G4183G4119G4100G1223G846G3056
42And they told the woman, "We no longer believe because of what you said, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this really is the Savior of the world."G5037G3004G1135G3754G3765G4100G3754G1223G4674G2981G1063G191G846G2532G1492G3754G3778G2076G230G5547G4990G2889

A Galilean Welcome

43After two days He left there for Galilee.G1161G3326G1417G2250G565G1831G1564G2532G1519G1056
44Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.G1063G2424G846G3140G3754G4396G2192G3756G5092G1722G2398G3968
45When they entered Galilee, the Galileans welcomed Him because they had seen everything He did in Jerusalem during the festival. For they also had gone to the festival.G3767G3753G2064G1519G1056G1057G1209G846G3708G3956G3739G4160G1722G2414G1722G1859G1063G846G2532G2064G1519G1859

The Second Sign: Healing an Official’s Son

46Then He went again to Cana of Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. There was a certain royal official whose son was ill at Capernaum.G3767G2424G2064G3825G1519G2580G1056G3699G4160G5204G3631G2532G2258G5100G937G3739G5207G770G1722G2584
47When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and pleaded with Him to come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.G3778G191G3754G2424G2240G1537G2449G1519G1056G565G4314G846G2532G2065G846G2443G2597G2532G2390G846G5207G1063G3195G599
48Jesus told him, "Unless you [people] see signs and wonders, you will not believe."G3767G2036G2424G4314G846G3362G1492G4592G2532G5059G4100G3364G4100
49"Sir," the official said to Him, "come down before my boy dies!"G937G3004G4314G846G2962G2597G4250G3450G3813G599
50"Go," Jesus told him, "your son will live." The man believed what Jesus said to him and departed.G2424G3004G846G4198G4675G5207G2198G2532G444G4100G3056G3739G2424G2036G846G2532G4198
51While he was still going down, his slaves met him saying that his boy was alive.G1161G846G2235G2597G846G1401G528G846G2532G518G3004G3754G4675G3816G2198
52He asked them at what time he got better. "Yesterday at seven in the morning the fever left him," they answered.G3767G4441G3844G846G5610G1722G3739G2192G2866G2532G2036G846G3754G5504G1442G5610G4446G863G846
53The father realized this was the very hour at which Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." Then he himself believed, along with his whole household.G3767G3962G1097G3754G1722G1565G5610G1722G3739G2424G2036G846G3754G4675G5207G2198G2532G846G4100G2532G846G3650G3614
54This therefore was the second sign Jesus performed after He came from Judea to Galilee.G5124G3825G1208G4592G2424G4160G2064G1537G2449G1519G1056
