The Land Divided West of the Jordan

14These are the areas which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel distributed as an inheritance to them.H1121H3478H5157H776H3667H499H3548H3091H1121H5126H7218H1H4294H1121H3478H5157 2Their inheritance was by lot, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe.H1486H5159H3068H6680H3027H4872H8672H4294H2677H4294 3For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe on the other side of the Jordan; but to the Levites he had given no inheritance among them.H4872H5414H5159H8147H4294H2677H4294H5676H3383H3881H5414H5159H8432 4For the children of Joseph were two tribes: Manasseh and Ephraim. And they gave no part to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their common-lands for their livestock and their property.H1121H3130H8147H4294H4519H669H5414H2506H3881H776H5892H3427H4054H4735H7075 5As the LORD had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did; and they divided the land.H3068H6680H4872H1121H3478H6213H2505H776

Caleb Inherits Hebron

6Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him: "You know the word which the LORD said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me in Kadesh Barnea.H1121H3063H5066H3091H1537H3612H1121H3312H7074H559H3045H1697H3068H1696H4872H376H430H182H182H6947 7"I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart.H705H8141H1121H4872H5650H3068H7971H6947H7270H776H7725H1697H7725H3824 8"Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the LORD my God.H251H5927H3820H5971H4529H4390H310H3068H430 9"So Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children's forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.'H4872H7650H3117H559H776H7272H1869H5159H1121H5704H5769H4390H310H3068H430 10"And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old.H3068H2421H1696H705H2568H8141H227H3068H1696H1697H4872H3478H1980H4057H3117H8084H2568H8141H1121 11"As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.H2389H3117H3117H4872H7971H3581H3581H4421H3318H935 12"Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said."H5414H2022H3068H1696H3117H8085H3117H6062H5892H1419H1219H194H3068H854H3423H3068H1696 13And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance.H3091H1288H5414H3612H1121H3312H2275H5159 14Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.H2275H5159H3612H1121H3312H7074H3117H4390H310H3068H430H3478 15And the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim). Then the land had rest from war.H8034H2275H6440H7153H1419H120H6062H776H8252H4421
