Territory of Manasseh

17Now [this] was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the first-born of Joseph. To Machir the first-born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, was allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war.H1486H4294H4519H1060H3130H4353H1060H4519H1H1568H376H4421H1568H1316 2So [the lot] was [made] for the rest of the sons of Manasseh according to their families: for the sons of Abiezer and for the sons of Helek and for the sons of Asriel and for the sons of Shechem and for the sons of Hepher and for the sons of Shemida; these [were] the male [descendants] of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.H3498H1121H4519H4940H1121H44H1121H2507H1121H844H1121H7928H1121H2660H1121H8061H2145H1121H4519H1121H3130H4940 3However, Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, only daughters; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.H6765H1121H2660H1121H1568H1121H4353H1121H4519H1121H1323H8034H1323H4244H5270H2295H4435H8656 4And they came near before Eleazar the priest and before Joshua the son of Nun and before the leaders, saying, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers." So according to the command of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among their father's brothers.H7126H6440H499H3548H6440H3091H1121H5126H6440H5387H559H3068H6680H4872H5414H5159H8432H251H6310H3068H5414H5159H8432H251H1 5Thus there fell ten portions to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan,H5307H6235H2256H4519H776H1568H1316H5676H3383 6because the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance among his sons. And the land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh.H1323H4519H5157H5159H8432H1121H3498H4519H1121H776H1568 7And the border of Manasseh ran from Asher to Michmethath which was east of Shechem; then the border went southward to the inhabitants of En-tappuah.H1366H4519H836H4366H6440H7927H1366H1980H3225H3427H5887 8The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh [belonged] to the sons of Ephraim.H4519H776H8599H8599H1366H4519H1121H669 9And the border went down to the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook (these cities [belonged] to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh), and the border of Manasseh [was] on the north side of the brook, and it ended at the sea.H1366H3381H5158H7071H5045H5158H5892H669H8432H5892H4519H1366H4519H6828H5158H8444H3220 10The south side [belonged] to Ephraim and the north side to Manasseh, and the sea was their border; and they reached to Asher on the north and to Issachar on the east.H5045H669H6828H4519H3220H1366H6293H836H6828H3485H4217 11And in Issachar and in Asher, Manasseh had Beth-shean and its towns and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, the third is Napheth.H4519H3485H836H1052H1323H2991H1323H3427H1756H1323H3427H5874H1323H3427H8590H1323H3427H4023H1323H7969H5316 12But the sons of Manasseh could not take possession of these cities, because the Canaanites persisted in living in that land.H1121H4519H3201H3423H5892H3669H2974H3427H776 13And it came about when the sons of Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but they did not drive them out completely.H1121H3478H2388H5414H3669H4522H3423H3423 14Then the sons of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, "Why have you given me only one lot and one portion for an inheritance, since I am a numerous people whom the LORD has thus far blessed?"H1121H3130H1696H3091H559H5414H259H1486H259H2256H5159H7227H5971H5704H3068H1288H3541 15And Joshua said to them, "If you are a numerous people, go up to the forest and clear a place for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you."H3091H559H7227H5971H5927H3293H1254H776H6522H7497H2022H669H213 16And the sons of Joseph said, "The hill country is not enough for us, and all the Canaanites who live in the valley land have chariots of iron, both those who are in Beth-shean and its towns, and those who are in the valley of Jezreel."H1121H3130H559H2022H4672H3669H3427H776H6010H7393H1270H1052H1323H6010H3157 17And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, saying, "You are a numerous people and have great power; you shall not have one lot [only,]H3091H559H1004H3130H669H4519H559H7227H5971H1419H3581H259H1486 18but the hill country shall be yours. For though it is a forest, you shall clear it, and to its farthest borders it shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, even though they have chariots of iron [and] though they are strong.
