Samson Defeats the Philistines

15After a while, in the time of wheat harvest, it happened that Samson visited his wife with a young goat. And he said, "Let me go in to my wife, into her room." But her father would not permit him to go in.H3117H3117H2406H7105H8123H6485H802H1423H5795H559H935H802H2315H1H5414H935 2Her father said, "I really thought that you thoroughly hated her; therefore I gave her to your companion. Is not her younger sister better than she? Please, take her instead."H1H559H559H559H8130H8130H5414H4828H6996H269H2896 3And Samson said to them, "This time I shall be blameless regarding the Philistines if I harm them!"H8123H559H6471H5352H6430H6213H7451 4Then Samson went and caught three hundred foxes; and he took torches, turned the foxes tail to tail, and put a torch between each pair of tails.H8123H3212H3920H7969H3967H7776H3947H3940H6437H2180H2180H7760H259H3940H8432H8147H2180 5When he had set the torches on fire, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burned up both the shocks and the standing grain, as well as the vineyards and olive groves.H1197H3940H784H7971H7054H6430H1197H1430H7054H3754H2132 6Then the Philistines said, "Who has done this?" And they answered, "Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken his wife and given her to his companion." So the Philistines came up and burned her and her father with fire.H6430H559H6213H559H8123H2860H8554H3947H802H5414H4828H6430H5927H8313H1H784 7Samson said to them, "Since you would do a thing like this, I will surely take revenge on you, and after that I will cease."H8123H559H518H6213H2063H5358H310H2308 8So he attacked them hip and thigh with a great slaughter; then he went down and dwelt in the cleft of the rock of Etam.H5221H7785H5921H3409H1419H4347H3381H3427H5585H5553H5862 9Now the Philistines went up, encamped in Judah, and deployed themselves against Lehi.H6430H5927H2583H3063H5203H3896 10And the men of Judah said, "Why have you come up against us?" So they answered, "We have come up to arrest Samson, to do to him as he has done to us."H376H3063H559H5927H559H631H8123H5927H6213H6213 11Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson, "Do you not know that the Philistines rule over us? What is this you have done to us?" And he said to them, "As they did to me, so I have done to them."H7969H505H376H3063H3381H5585H5553H5862H559H8123H3045H6430H4910H6213H559H6213H6213 12But they said to him, "We have come down to arrest you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines." Then Samson said to them, "Swear to me that you will not kill me yourselves."H559H3381H631H5414H3027H6430H8123H559H7650H6293 13So they spoke to him, saying, "No, but we will tie you securely and deliver you into their hand; but we will surely not kill you." And they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock.H559H559H631H631H5414H3027H4191H4191H631H8147H2319H5688H5927H5553 14When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting against him. Then the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him; and the ropes that were on his arms became like flax that is burned with fire, and his bonds broke loose from his hands.H935H3896H6430H7321H7125H7307H3068H6743H5688H2220H6593H1197H784H612H4549H3027 15He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, reached out his hand and took it, and killed a thousand men with it.H4672H2961H3895H2543H7971H3027H3947H5221H505H376 16Then Samson said: "With the jawbone of a donkey, Heaps upon heaps, With the jawbone of a donkey I have slain a thousand men!"H8123H559H3895H2543H2565H2565H3895H2543H5221H505H376 17And so it was, when he had finished speaking, that he threw the jawbone from his hand, and called that place Ramath Lehi.H3615H1696H7993H3895H3027H7121H4725H7437 18Then he became very thirsty; so he cried out to the LORD and said, "You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant; and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?"H3966H6770H7121H3068H559H5414H1419H8668H3027H5650H4191H6772H5307H3027H6189 19So God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out, and he drank; and his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore he called its name En Hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day.H430H1234H4388H3895H3318H4325H8354H7307H7725H2421H7121H8034H5875H3896H3117 20And he judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistines.H8199H3478H3117H6430H6242H8141
