English Standard Version Help
15After some days, at the time of wheat harvest, Samson went to visit his wife with a young goat. And he said, "I will go in to my wife in the chamber." But her father would not allow him to go in.H3117H3117H2406H7105H8123H6485H802H1423H5795H559H935H802H2315H1H5414H935 2And her father said, "I really thought that you utterly hated her, so I gave her to your companion. Is not her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her instead."H1H559H559H559H8130H8130H5414H4828H6996H269H2896 3And Samson said to them, "This time I shall be innocent in regard to the Philistines, when I do them harm."H8123H559H6471H5352H6430H6213H7451 4So Samson went and caught 300 foxes and took torches. And he turned them tail to tail and put a torch between each pair of tails.H8123H3212H3920H7969H3967H7776H3947H3940H6437H2180H2180H7760H259H3940H8432H8147H2180 5And when he had set fire to the torches, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines and set fire to the stacked grain and the standing grain, as well as the olive orchards.H1197H3940H784H7971H7054H6430H1197H1430H7054H3754H2132 6Then the Philistines said, "Who has done this?" And they said, "Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken his wife and given her to his companion." And the Philistines came up and burned her and her father with fire.H6430H559H6213H559H8123H2860H8554H3947H802H5414H4828H6430H5927H8313H1H784 7And Samson said to them, "If this is what you do, I swear I will be avenged on you, and after that I will quit."H8123H559H518H6213H2063H5358H310H2308 8And he struck them hip and thigh with a great blow, and he went down and stayed in the cleft of the rock of Etam.H5221H7785H5921H3409H1419H4347H3381H3427H5585H5553H5862 9Then the Philistines came up and encamped in Judah and made a raid on Lehi.H6430H5927H2583H3063H5203H3896 10And the men of Judah said, "Why have you come up against us?" They said, "We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he did to us."H376H3063H559H5927H559H631H8123H5927H6213H6213 11Then 3,000 men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson, "Do you not know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?" And he said to them, "As they did to me, so have I done to them."H7969H505H376H3063H3381H5585H5553H5862H559H8123H3045H6430H4910H6213H559H6213H6213 12And they said to him, "We have come down to bind you, that we may give you into the hands of the Philistines." And Samson said to them, "Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves."H559H3381H631H5414H3027H6430H8123H559H7650H6293 13They said to him, "No; we will only bind you and give you into their hands. We will surely not kill you." So they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock.H559H559H631H631H5414H3027H4191H4191H631H8147H2319H5688H5927H5553 14When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting to meet him. Then the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that has caught fire, and his bonds melted off his hands.H935H3896H6430H7321H7125H7307H3068H6743H5688H2220H6593H1197H784H612H4549H3027 15And he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, and put out his hand and took it, and with it he struck 1,000 men.H4672H2961H3895H2543H7971H3027H3947H5221H505H376 16And Samson said, "With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of a donkey have I struck down a thousand men."H8123H559H3895H2543H2565H2565H3895H2543H5221H505H376 17As soon as he had finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone out of his hand. And that place was called Ramath-lehi.H3615H1696H7993H3895H3027H7121H4725H7437 18And he was very thirsty, and he called upon the LORD and said, "You have granted this great salvation by the hand of your servant, and shall I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?"H3966H6770H7121H3068H559H5414H1419H8668H3027H5650H4191H6772H5307H3027H6189 19And God split open the hollow place that is at Lehi, and water came out from it. And when he drank, his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore the name of it was called En-hakkore; it is at Lehi to this day.H430H1234H4388H3895H3318H4325H8354H7307H7725H2421H7121H8034H5875H3896H3117 20And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.H8199H3478H3117H6430H6242H8141
