Judges 2
Amplified Bible Help
2NOW THE Angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And He said, I brought you up from Egypt and have brought you to the land which I swore to give to your fathers, and I said, I will never break My covenant with you;H4397H3068H5927H1537H1066H559H5927H4714H935H776H7650H1H559H5769H6565H1285 2And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; but you shall break down their altars. But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this?H3772H1285H3427H776H5422H4196H8085H6963H6213 3So now I say, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.H559H1644H6440H6654H430H4170 4When the Angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the Israelites, the people lifted up their voice and wept.H4397H3068H1696H1697H1121H3478H5971H5375H6963H1058 5They named that place Bochim [weepers], and they sacrificed there to the Lord.H7121H8034H4725H1066H2076H3068 6And when Joshua had let the people go, the Israelites went every man to his inheritance to possess the land.H3091H5971H7971H1121H3478H3212H376H5159H3423H776 7And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord which He did for Israel.H5971H5647H3068H3117H3091H3117H2205H748H3117H310H3091H7200H1419H4639H3068H6213H3478 8And Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being 110 years old.H3091H1121H5126H5650H3068H4191H3967H6235H8141H1121 9And they buried him within the boundary of his inheritance in Timnath-heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.H6912H1366H5159H8556H2022H669H6828H2022H1608 10And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers, and there arose another generation after them who did not know (recognize, understand) the Lord, or even the work which He had done for Israel.H1755H622H1H6965H312H1755H310H3045H3068H4639H6213H3478 11And the people of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals.H1121H3478H6213H7451H5869H3068H5647H1168 12And they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers, Who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods of the peoples round about them and bowed down to them, and provoked the Lord to anger.H5800H3068H430H1H3318H776H4714H3212H310H312H430H430H5971H5439H7812H3068H3707 13And they forsook the Lord and served Baal [the god worshiped by the Canaanites] and the Ashtaroth [female deities such as Ashtoreth and Asherah].H5800H3068H5647H1168H6252 14So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and He gave them into the power of plunderers who robbed them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could no longer stand before their foes.H639H3068H2734H3478H5414H3027H8154H8155H4376H3027H341H5439H3201H5750H5975H6440H341 15Whenever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn to them; and they were bitterly distressed.H3318H3027H3068H7451H3068H1696H3068H7650H3966H3334 16But the Lord raised up judges, who delivered them out of the hands of those who robbed them.H3068H6965H8199H3467H3027H8154 17And yet they did not listen to their judges, for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed down to them. They turned quickly out of the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the Lord, and they did not so.H8085H8199H2181H310H312H430H7812H5493H4118H1870H1H1980H8085H4687H3068H6213 18When the Lord raised them up judges, then He was with the judge and delivered them out of the hands of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved to relent because of their groanings by reason of those who oppressed and vexed them.H3068H6965H8199H3068H8199H3467H3027H341H3117H8199H5162H3068H6440H5009H3905H1766 19But when the judge was dead, they turned back and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, following and serving other gods, and bowing down to them. They did not cease from their practices or their stubborn way.H8199H4194H7725H7843H1H3212H310H312H430H5647H7812H5307H4611H7186H1870 20So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel; and He said, Because this people have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers and have not listened to My voice,H639H3068H2734H3478H559H1471H5674H1285H6680H1H8085H6963 21I from now on will also not drive out from before them any of the nations which Joshua left when he died,H3254H3423H376H6440H1471H3091H5800H4191 22That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord to walk in it, as their fathers kept it, or not.H5254H3478H8104H1870H3068H3212H1H8104 23So the Lord left those nations, without driving them out at once, nor had He delivered them into Joshua's power.H3068H3240H1471H1115H3423H4118H5414H3027H3091
