Israel’s Disobedience

2Then the Angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said: "I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers; and I said, 'I will never break My covenant with you.H4397H3068H5927H1537H1066H559H5927H4714H935H776H7650H1H559H5769H6565H1285 2'And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.' But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this?H3772H1285H3427H776H5422H4196H8085H6963H6213 3"Therefore I also said, 'I will not drive them out before you; but they shall be thorns in your side, and their gods shall be a snare to you.'"H559H1644H6440H6654H430H4170 4So it was, when the Angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voices and wept.H4397H3068H1696H1697H1121H3478H5971H5375H6963H1058 5Then they called the name of that place Bochim; and they sacrificed there to the LORD.H7121H8034H4725H1066H2076H3068 6And when Joshua had dismissed the people, the children of Israel went each to his own inheritance to possess the land.H3091H5971H7971H1121H3478H3212H376H5159H3423H776

Death of Joshua

7So the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD which He had done for Israel.H5971H5647H3068H3117H3091H3117H2205H748H3117H310H3091H7200H1419H4639H3068H6213H3478 8Now Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died when he was one hundred and ten years old.H3091H1121H5126H5650H3068H4191H3967H6235H8141H1121 9And they buried him within the border of his inheritance at Timnath Heres, in the mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash.H6912H1366H5159H8556H2022H669H6828H2022H1608 10When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel.H1755H622H1H6965H312H1755H310H3045H3068H4639H6213H3478

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

11Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served the Baals;H1121H3478H6213H7451H5869H3068H5647H1168 12and they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods from among the gods of the people who were all around them, and they bowed down to them; and they provoked the LORD to anger.H5800H3068H430H1H3318H776H4714H3212H310H312H430H430H5971H5439H7812H3068H3707 13They forsook the LORD and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.H5800H3068H5647H1168H6252 14And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel. So He delivered them into the hands of plunderers who despoiled them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.H639H3068H2734H3478H5414H3027H8154H8155H4376H3027H341H5439H3201H5750H5975H6440H341 15Wherever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for calamity, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn to them. And they were greatly distressed.H3318H3027H3068H7451H3068H1696H3068H7650H3966H3334 16Nevertheless, the LORD raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them.H3068H6965H8199H3467H3027H8154 17Yet they would not listen to their judges, but they played the harlot with other gods, and bowed down to them. They turned quickly from the way in which their fathers walked, in obeying the commandments of the LORD; they did not do so.H8085H8199H2181H310H312H430H7812H5493H4118H1870H1H1980H8085H4687H3068H6213 18And when the LORD raised up judges for them, the LORD was with the judge and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the LORD was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed them and harassed them.H3068H6965H8199H3068H8199H3467H3027H341H3117H8199H5162H3068H6440H5009H3905H1766 19And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they reverted and behaved more corruptly than their fathers, by following other gods, to serve them and bow down to them. They did not cease from their own doings nor from their stubborn way.H8199H4194H7725H7843H1H3212H310H312H430H5647H7812H5307H4611H7186H1870 20Then the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and He said, "Because this nation has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not heeded My voice,H639H3068H2734H3478H559H1471H5674H1285H6680H1H8085H6963 21"I also will no longer drive out before them any of the nations which Joshua left when he died,H3254H3423H376H6440H1471H3091H5800H4191 22"so that through them I may test Israel, whether they will keep the ways of the LORD, to walk in them as their fathers kept them, or not."H5254H3478H8104H1870H3068H3212H1H8104 23Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out immediately; nor did He deliver them into the hand of Joshua.H3068H3240H1471H1115H3423H4118H5414H3027H3091
