The Deserted City

1How lonely sits the city that once was full of people! How like a widow she has become, she that was great among the nations! She that was a princess among the provinces has become a vassal.H5892H3427H910H7227H5971H490H7227H1471H8282H4082H4522 2She weeps bitterly in the night, with tears on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has no one to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they have become her enemies.H1058H1058H3915H1832H3895H157H5162H7453H898H341 3Judah has gone into exile with suffering and hard servitude; she lives now among the nations, and finds no resting place; her pursuers have all overtaken her in the midst of her distress.H3063H1540H6040H7230H5656H3427H1471H4672H4494H7291H5381H4712 4The roads to Zion mourn, for no one comes to the festivals; all her gates are desolate, her priests groan; her young girls grieve, and her lot is bitter.H1870H6726H57H935H4150H8179H8074H3548H584H1330H3013H4843 5Her foes have become the masters, her enemies prosper, because the LORD has made her suffer for the multitude of her transgressions; her children have gone away, captives before the foe.H6862H7218H341H7951H3068H3013H7230H6588H5768H1980H7628H6440H6862 6From daughter Zion has departed all her majesty. Her princes have become like stags that find no pasture; they fled without strength before the pursuer.H1323H6726H1926H3318H8269H354H4672H4829H3212H3581H6440H7291 7Jerusalem remembers, in the days of her affliction and wandering, all the precious things that were hers in days of old. When her people fell into the hand of the foe, and there was no one to help her, the foe looked on mocking over her downfall.H3389H2142H3117H6040H4788H4262H3117H6924H5971H5307H3027H6862H5826H6862H7200H7832H4868 8Jerusalem sinned grievously, so she has become a mockery; all who honored her despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; she herself groans, and turns her face away.H3389H2399H2398H5206H3513H2107H7200H6172H584H7725H268 9Her uncleanness was in her skirts; she took no thought of her future; her downfall was appalling, with none to comfort her. "O LORD, look at my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed!"H2932H7757H2142H319H3381H6382H5162H3068H7200H6040H341H1431 10Enemies have stretched out their hands over all her precious things; she has even seen the nations invade her sanctuary, those whom you forbade to enter your congregation.H6862H6566H3027H4261H7200H1471H935H4720H6680H935H6951 11All her people groan as they search for bread; they trade their treasures for food to revive their strength. Look, O LORD, and see how worthless I have become.H5971H584H1245H3899H5414H4261H4262H400H7725H5315H7200H3068H5027H2151 12Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which was brought upon me, which the LORD inflicted on the day of his fierce anger.H5674H1870H5027H7200H3426H4341H4341H5953H3068H3013H3117H2740H639 13From on high he sent fire; it went deep into my bones; he spread a net for my feet; he turned me back; he has left me stunned, faint all day long.H4791H7971H784H6106H7287H6566H7568H7272H7725H268H5414H8074H1739H3117 14My transgressions were bound into a yoke; by his hand they were fastened together; they weigh on my neck, sapping my strength; the Lord handed me over to those whom I cannot withstand.H5923H6588H8244H3027H8276H5927H6677H3581H3782H136H5414H3027H3201H6965 15The LORD has rejected all my warriors in the midst of me; he proclaimed a time against me to crush my young men; the Lord has trodden as in a wine press the virgin daughter Judah.H136H5541H47H7130H7121H4150H7665H970H136H1869H1330H1323H3063H1660 16For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me, one to revive my courage; my children are desolate, for the enemy has prevailed.H1058H5869H5869H3381H4325H5162H7725H5315H7368H1121H8074H341H1396 17Zion stretches out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her; the LORD has commanded against Jacob that his neighbors should become his foes; Jerusalem has become a filthy thing among them.H6726H6566H3027H5162H3068H6680H3290H6862H5439H3389H5079 18The LORD is in the right, for I have rebelled against his word; but hear, all you peoples, and behold my suffering; my young women and young men have gone into captivity.H3068H6662H4784H6310H8085H5971H7200H4341H1330H970H1980H7628 19I called to my lovers but they deceived me; my priests and elders perished in the city while seeking food to revive their strength.H7121H157H7411H3548H2205H1478H5892H1245H400H7725H5315 20See, O LORD, how distressed I am; my stomach churns, my heart is wrung within me, because I have been very rebellious. In the street the sword bereaves; in the house it is like death.H7200H3068H6887H4578H2560H3820H2015H7130H4784H4784H2351H2719H7921H1004H4194 21They heard how I was groaning, with no one to comfort me. All my enemies heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it. Bring on the day you have announced, and let them be as I am.H8085H584H5162H341H8085H7451H7797H6213H935H3117H7121H3644 22Let all their evil doing come before you; and deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my transgressions; for my groans are many and my heart is faint.H7451H935H6440H5953H5953H6588H585H7227H3820H1742
