Looking for the Living One in a Cemetery

24At the crack of dawn on Sunday, the women came to the tomb carrying the burial spices they had prepared.G1161G3391G4521G3722G901G2064G1909G3418G5342G759G3739G2090G2532G5100G4862G846 2They found the entrance stone rolled back from the tomb,G1161G2147G3037G617G575G3419 3so they walked in. But once inside, they couldn't find the body of the Master Jesus.G2532G1525G2147G3756G4983G2962G2424 4They were puzzled, wondering what to make of this. Then, out of nowhere it seemed, two men, light cascading over them, stood there.G2532G1096G1722G846G1280G4012G5127G2532G2400G1417G435G2186G846G1722G797G2067 5The women were awestruck and bowed down in worship. The men said, "Why are you looking for the Living One in a cemetery?G1161G1096G846G1096G1719G2532G2827G4383G1519G1093G2036G4314G846G5101G2212G2198G3326G3498 6He is not here, but raised up. Remember how he told you when you were still back in GalileeG2076G3756G5602G235G1453G3415G5613G2980G5213G5607G2089G1722G1056 7that he had to be handed over to sinners, be killed on a cross, and in three days rise up?"G3004G3754G5207G444G1163G3860G1519G5495G268G444G2532G4717G2532G5154G2250G450 8Then they remembered Jesus' words.G2532G3415G846G4487 9They left the tomb and broke the news of all this to the Eleven and the rest.G2532G5290G575G3419G518G3956G5023G1733G2532G3956G3062 10Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them kept telling these things to the apostles,G1161G2258G3137G3094G2532G2489G2532G3137G2385G2532G3062G4862G846G3739G3004G5023G4314G652 11but the apostles didn't believe a word of it, thought they were making it all up.G2532G846G4487G5316G1799G846G5616G3026G2532G569G846G569 12But Peter jumped to his feet and ran to the tomb. He stooped to look in and saw a few grave clothes, that's all. He walked away puzzled, shaking his head.G1161G450G4074G5143G1909G3419G2532G3879G991G3608G2749G3441G2532G565G2296G4314G1438G1096

The Road to Emmaus

13That same day two of them were walking to the village Emmaus, about seven miles out of Jerusalem.G2532G2400G1417G1537G846G2258G4198G1722G846G2250G1519G2968G3739G3686G1695G568G575G2419G1835G4712 14They were deep in conversation, going over all these things that had happened.G2532G846G3656G4314G240G4012G3956G5130G4819 15In the middle of their talk and questions, Jesus came up and walked along with them.G2532G1096G1722G846G3656G2532G4802G2424G2532G846G1448G4848G846 16But they were not able to recognize who he was.G1161G846G3788G2902G1921G3361G1921G846 17He asked, "What's this you're discussing so intently as you walk along?" They just stood there, long-faced, like they had lost their best friend.G1161G2036G4314G846G5101G3056G3778G3739G474G4314G240G4043G2532G2075G4659 18Then one of them, his name was Cleopas, said, "Are you the only one in Jerusalem who hasn't heard what's happened during the last few days?"G1161G1520G3739G3686G2810G611G2036G4314G846G4771G3441G3939G1722G2419G2532G1097G3756G1097G1096G1722G846G1722G5025G2250 19He said, "What has happened?" They said, "The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene. He was a man of God, a prophet, dynamic in work and word, blessed by both God and all the people.G2532G2036G846G4169G1161G2036G846G4012G2424G3480G3739G1096G4396G1415G1722G435G2041G2532G3056G1726G2316G2532G3956G2992 20Then our high priests and leaders betrayed him, got him sentenced to death, and crucified him.G3704G5037G749G2532G2257G758G3860G846G1519G2917G2288G2532G4717G846 21And we had our hopes up that he was the One, the One about to deliver Israel. And it is now the third day since it happened.G1161G2249G1679G3754G2076G846G3195G3084G2474G235G1065G4862G3956G5125G4594G71G5026G5154G2250G575G3739G5023G1096 22But now some of our women have completely confused us. Early this morning they were at the tombG235G5100G1135G2532G1537G2257G1839G2248G1839G1096G3721G1909G3419 23and couldn't find his body. They came back with the story that they had seen a vision of angels who said he was alive.G2532G2147G3361G846G4983G2064G3004G3708G2532G3708G3701G32G3739G3004G846G2198 24Some of our friends went off to the tomb to check and found it empty just as the women said, but they didn't see Jesus."G2532G5100G4862G2254G565G1909G3419G2532G2147G2532G3779G2531G1135G2036G1161G846G1492G3756 25Then he said to them, "So thick-headed! So slow-hearted! Why can't you simply believe all that the prophets said?G2532G846G2036G4314G846G5599G453G2532G1021G2588G4100G1909G3956G3739G4396G2980 26Don't you see that these things had to happen, that the Messiah had to suffer and only then enter into his glory?"G1163G3780G5547G3958G5023G2532G1525G1519G846G1391 27Then he started at the beginning, with the Books of Moses, and went on through all the Prophets, pointing out everything in the Scriptures that referred to him.G2532G756G575G3475G2532G575G3956G4396G1329G846G1722G3956G1124G4012G1438 28They came to the edge of the village where they were headed. He acted as if he were going onG2532G1448G1519G2968G3757G4198G2532G846G4364G4198G4208 29but they pressed him: "Stay and have supper with us. It's nearly evening; the day is done." So he went in with them.G2532G3849G846G3004G3306G3326G2257G3754G2076G4314G2073G2532G2250G2827G2532G1525G3306G4862G846 30And here is what happened: He sat down at the table with them. Taking the bread, he blessed and broke and gave it to them.G2532G1096G1722G846G2625G3326G846G2983G740G2127G2532G2806G1929G846 31At that moment, open-eyed, wide-eyed, they recognized him. And then he disappeared.G1161G846G3788G1272G2532G1921G846G2532G846G1096G855G575G846 32Back and forth they talked. "Didn't we feel on fire as he conversed with us on the road, as he opened up the Scriptures for us?"G2532G2036G4314G240G2258G3780G2257G2588G2545G1722G2254G5613G2980G2254G1722G3598G2532G5613G1272G2254G1124

A Ghost Doesn’t Have Muscle and Bone

33They didn't waste a minute. They were up and on their way back to Jerusalem. They found the Eleven and their friends gathered together,G2532G450G846G5610G5290G1519G2419G2532G2147G1733G4867G2532G4862G846 34talking away: "It's really happened! The Master has been raised up—Simon saw him!"G3004G3754G2962G1453G3689G2532G3700G4613 35Then the two went over everything that happened on the road and how they recognized him when he broke the bread.G2532G846G1834G1722G3598G2532G5613G1097G846G1722G2800G740 36While they were saying all this, Jesus appeared to them and said, "Peace be with you."G1161G846G5023G2980G2424G846G2476G1722G3319G846G2532G3004G846G1515G5213 37They thought they were seeing a ghost and were scared half to death.G1161G4422G2532G1719G1096G1380G2334G4151 38He continued with them, "Don't be upset, and don't let all these doubting questions take over.G2532G2036G846G5101G2075G5015G2532G1302G1261G305G1722G5216G2588 39Look at my hands; look at my feet—it's really me. Touch me. Look me over from head to toe. A ghost doesn't have muscle and bone like this."G1492G3450G5495G2532G3450G4228G3754G1510G1473G846G5584G3165G2532G1492G3754G4151G2192G3756G4561G2532G3747G2531G2334G1691G2192 40As he said this, he showed them his hands and feet.G2532G5124G2036G1925G846G5495G2532G4228 41They still couldn't believe what they were seeing. It was too much; it seemed too good to be true. He asked, "Do you have any food here?"G1161G846G2089G569G575G5479G2532G2296G2036G846G2192G1759G5100G1034 42They gave him a piece of leftover fish they had cooked.G1161G1929G846G3313G3702G2486G2532G575G3193G2781 43He took it and ate it right before their eyes.G2532G2983G5315G1799G846 44Then he said, "Everything I told you while I was with you comes to this: All the things written about me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets, and in the Psalms have to be fulfilled."G1161G2036G846G3778G3056G3739G2980G4314G5209G5607G2089G4862G5213G3754G3956G1163G4137G3588G1125G1722G3551G3475G2532G4396G2532G5568G4012G1700 45He went on to open their understanding of the Word of God, showing them how to read their Bibles this way.G5119G1272G846G3563G4920G1124 46He said, "You can see now how it is written that the Messiah suffers, rises from the dead on the third day,G2532G2036G846G3754G3779G1125G2532G3779G1163G5547G3958G2532G450G1537G3498G5154G2250 47and then a total life-change through the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed in his name to all nations—starting from here, from Jerusalem!G2532G3341G2532G859G266G2784G1909G846G3686G1519G3956G1484G756G575G2419 48You're the first to hear and see it. You're the witnesses.G1161G5210G2075G3144G5130 49What comes next is very important: I am sending what my Father promised to you, so stay here in the city until he arrives, until you're equipped with power from on high."G2532G2400G1473G649G1860G3450G3962G1909G5209G1161G2523G5210G1722G4172G2419G2193G3739G1746G1411G1537G5311 50He then led them out of the city over to Bethany. Raising his hands he blessed them,G1161G1806G846G1854G2193G1519G963G2532G1869G846G5495G2127G846 51and while blessing them, took his leave, being carried up to heaven.G2532G1096G1722G846G2127G846G1339G575G846G2532G399G1519G3772 52And they were on their knees, worshiping him. They returned to Jerusalem bursting with joy.G2532G846G4352G846G5290G1519G2419G3326G3173G5479 53They spent all their time in the Temple praising God. Yes.G2532G2258G1275G1722G2411G134G2532G2127G2316G281
