Jesus is Tempted by Satan

4Then Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,G1161G2424G4134G40G4151G5290G575G2446G2532G71G1722G4151G1519G2048
2where he was being tempted by the devil for40 days. During that time he ate nothing at all, and when they were over he became hungry.G3985G5062G2250G3985G5259G1228G2532G1722G1565G2250G5315G3756G3762G2532G846G4931G5305G3983
3The devil said to him, "Since you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread."G2532G1228G2036G846G1487G1488G5207G2316G2036G5129G3037G2443G1096G740
4Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'One must not live on bread alone, but on every word of God.'"G2532G2424G611G4314G846G3004G1125G3754G444G2198G3756G2198G1909G740G3441G235G1909G3956G4487G2316
5The devil also took him to a high place and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in an instant.G2532G1228G321G846G321G1519G5308G3735G1166G846G3956G932G3625G1722G4743G5550
6He said to Jesus, "I will give you all this authority, along with their glory, because it has been given to me, and I give it to anyone I please.G2532G1228G2036G846G537G5026G1849G1325G4671G2532G1391G846G3754G3860G1698G2532G3739G1437G2309G1325G846
7So if you will worship me, all this will be yours."6G1437G4771G3767G4352G1799G3450G3956G2071G4675
8But Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"G2532G2424G611G2036G846G5217G3694G3450G4567G1063G1125G4352G2962G4675G2316G2532G846G3441G3000
9The devil also took him into Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. He said to Jesus, "Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,G2532G71G846G1519G2419G2532G2476G846G1909G4419G2411G2532G2036G846G1487G1488G5207G2316G906G4572G2736G1782
10because it is written, 'God will put his angels in charge of you to watch over you carefully.G1063G3754G1125G1781G846G32G1781G4012G4675G1314G4571
11With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.'"G2532G3754G1909G5495G142G4571G142G3379G4350G4675G4228G4314G3037
12Jesus answered him, "It has been said, 'You must not tempt the Lord your God.'"G2532G2424G611G2036G846G3754G2046G1598G3756G1598G2962G4675G2316
13After the devil had finished tempting Jesus in every possible way, he left him until another time.G2532G1228G4931G3956G3986G868G575G846G891G2540

Jesus Begins His Ministry in Galilee

14Then Jesus returned to Galilee by the power of the Spirit. Meanwhile, the news about him spread throughout the surrounding country.G2532G2424G5290G1722G1411G4151G1519G1056G2532G1831G5345G4012G846G2596G3650G4066
15He began to teach in their synagogues and was continuously receiving praise from everyone.G2532G846G1321G1722G846G4864G1392G5259G3956

Jesus is Rejected at Nazareth

16Then Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been raised. As was his custom, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day. When he stood up to read,G2532G2064G1519G3478G3757G2258G5142G2532G2596G846G1486G2596G1525G1519G4864G1722G4521G2250G2532G450G314
17the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written,G2532G1929G846G975G4396G2268G2532G380G975G2147G5117G3757G2258G1125
18"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has anointed me to tell the good news to the poor. He has sent me to announce release to the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to set oppressed people free,G4151G2962G1909G1691G1752G5548G3165G2097G4434G649G3165G2390G4937G2588G2784G859G164G2532G309G5185G649G1722G859G2352
19and to announce the year of the Lord's favor."G2784G1184G1763G2962
20Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. While the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him,G2532G4428G975G591G5257G2523G2532G3788G3956G2258G1722G4864G816G846
21he began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled, as you've heard it read aloud."G1161G756G3004G4314G846G3754G4594G4137G3778G1124G4137G1722G5216G3775
22All the people began to speak well of him and to wonder at the gracious words that flowed from his mouth. They said, "This is Joseph's son, isn't it?"G2532G3956G3140G846G3140G2532G2296G1909G5485G3056G3588G1607G1537G846G4750G2532G3004G2076G3756G3778G2501G5207
23So he said to them, "You will probably quote this proverb to me, 'Doctor, heal yourself! Do everything here in your hometown that we hear you did in Capernaum.'"G2532G2036G4314G846G2046G3843G2046G3427G5026G3850G2395G2323G4572G3745G191G1096G1722G2584G4160G2532G5602G1722G4675G3968
24He added, "I tell all of you with certainty, a prophet is not accepted in his hometown.G1161G2036G281G3004G5213G3754G3762G4396G2076G1184G1722G846G3968
25I'm telling you the truth - there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when it didn't rain for three years and six months and there was a severe famine everywhere in the land.G1161G3004G5213G1909G225G4183G5503G2258G1722G2474G1722G2250G2243G3753G3772G2808G1909G5140G2094G2532G1803G3376G5613G3173G3042G1096G1909G3956G1093
26Yet Elijah wasn't sent to a single one of those widows except to one at Zarephath in Sidon.G2532G4314G3762G846G3992G2243G3992G1508G1519G4558G4605G4314G1135G5503
27There were also many lepers in Israel in the prophet Elisha's time, yet not one of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian."G2532G4183G3015G2258G1722G2474G1909G1666G4396G2532G3762G846G2511G1508G3497G4948
28All the people in the synagogue became furious when they heard this.G2532G3956G1722G4864G191G5023G4130G2372
29They got up, forced Jesus out of the city, and led him to the edge of the hill on which their city was built, intending to throw him off.G2532G450G1544G846G1854G4172G2532G71G846G2193G3790G3735G1909G3739G846G4172G3618G1519G2630G846G2630
30But he walked right through the middle of them and went away.29G1161G846G1330G1223G3319G846G4198

Jesus Heals a Man with an Unclean Spirit

31Then Jesus went down to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and began teaching the people on Sabbath days.G2532G2718G1519G2584G4172G1056G2532G1321G846G2258G1722G4521
32They were utterly amazed at what he taught, because his message was spoken with authority.G2532G1605G1909G846G1322G3754G846G3056G2258G1722G1849
33In the synagogue was a man who had a demon. He screamed with a loud voice,G2532G1722G4864G2258G444G2192G4151G169G1140G2532G349G3173G5456
34"Oh, no! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are - the Holy One of God!"G3004G1436G5101G2254G4671G2532G2424G3479G2064G622G2248G1492G4571G5101G1488G40G2316
35But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" At this, the demon threw the man down in the middle of the synagogue and came out of him without hurting him.G2532G2424G2008G846G3004G5392G2532G1831G1537G846G2532G1140G4496G846G1519G3319G1831G575G846G984G846G3367
36Overwhelmed with amazement, they all kept saying to one another, "What kind of statement is this - - because with authority and power he gives orders to unclean spirits, and they come out!"G2532G1096G1909G3956G2285G2532G4814G4314G240G3004G5101G3056G3778G3754G1722G1849G2532G1411G2004G169G4151G2532G1831
37So news about him spread to every place in the surrounding region.G2532G2279G4012G846G1607G1519G3956G5117G4066

Jesus Heals Many People

38Then Jesus got up to leave the synagogue and went into Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was sick with a high fever, so they asked Jesus about her.G1161G450G1537G4864G1525G1519G4613G3614G1161G4613G3994G2258G4912G3173G4446G2532G2065G846G4012G846
39He bent over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began serving them.G2532G2186G1883G846G2008G4446G2532G863G846G3916G450G1161G1247G846
40When the sun was setting, everyone who had any friends suffering from various diseases brought them to him. He placed his hands on each of them and began healing them.G1161G2246G1416G3956G3745G2192G770G4164G3554G71G846G4314G846G1161G2007G5495G2007G1538G1520G846G2323G846
41Even demons came out of many people, screaming, "You are the Son of God!" But Jesus rebuked them and ordered them not to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.G1161G1140G2532G1831G575G4183G2896G2532G3004G3754G4771G1488G5547G5207G2316G2532G2008G1439G846G3756G2980G3754G1492G846G1511G5547

Jesus Goes on a Preaching Tour

42At daybreak he left and went to a deserted place, while the crowds kept looking for him. When they came to him, they tried to keep him from leaving them.G1161G1096G2250G1831G4198G1519G2048G5117G2532G3793G2212G846G2532G2064G2193G846G2532G2722G846G3361G4198G575G846
43But he said to them, "I have to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God in other cities, because I was sent to do that also."G1161G2036G4314G846G3754G3165G1163G2097G932G2316G2087G4172G2532G3754G1519G5124G649
44So he continued to preach in the synagogues of Galilee.G2532G2258G2784G1722G4864G1056
