The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth

16When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read,G2532G2064G1519G3478G3757G2258G5142G2532G2596G846G1486G2596G1525G1519G4864G1722G4521G2250G2532G450G314 17and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:G2532G1929G846G975G4396G2268G2532G380G975G2147G5117G3757G2258G1125 18'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,G4151G2962G1909G1691G1752G5548G3165G2097G4434G649G3165G2390G4937G2588G2784G859G164G2532G309G5185G649G1722G859G2352 19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."G2784G1184G1763G2962 20And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.G2532G4428G975G591G5257G2523G2532G3788G3956G2258G1722G4864G816G846 21Then he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."G1161G756G3004G4314G846G3754G4594G4137G3778G1124G4137G1722G5216G3775 22All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, "Is not this Joseph's son?"G2532G3956G3140G846G3140G2532G2296G1909G5485G3056G3588G1607G1537G846G4750G2532G3004G2076G3756G3778G2501G5207 23He said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, 'Doctor, cure yourself!' And you will say, 'Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum.'"G2532G2036G4314G846G2046G3843G2046G3427G5026G3850G2395G2323G4572G3745G191G1096G1722G2584G4160G2532G5602G1722G4675G3968 24And he said, "Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet's hometown.G1161G2036G281G3004G5213G3754G3762G4396G2076G1184G1722G846G3968 25But the truth is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land;G1161G3004G5213G1909G225G4183G5503G2258G1722G2474G1722G2250G2243G3753G3772G2808G1909G5140G2094G2532G1803G3376G5613G3173G3042G1096G1909G3956G1093 26yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon.G2532G4314G3762G846G3992G2243G3992G1508G1519G4558G4605G4314G1135G5503 27There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian."G2532G4183G3015G2258G1722G2474G1909G1666G4396G2532G3762G846G2511G1508G3497G4948 28When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with rage.G2532G3956G1722G4864G191G5023G4130G2372 29They got up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff.G2532G450G1544G846G1854G4172G2532G71G846G2193G3790G3735G1909G3739G846G4172G3618G1519G2630G846G2630 30But he passed through the midst of them and went on his way.G1161G846G1330G1223G3319G846G4198

The Man with an Unclean Spirit

31He went down to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbath.G2532G2718G1519G2584G4172G1056G2532G1321G846G2258G1722G4521 32They were astounded at his teaching, because he spoke with authority.G2532G1605G1909G846G1322G3754G846G3056G2258G1722G1849 33In the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,G2532G1722G4864G2258G444G2192G4151G169G1140G2532G349G3173G5456 34"Let us alone! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God."G3004G1436G5101G2254G4671G2532G2424G3479G2064G622G2248G1492G4571G5101G1488G40G2316 35But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" When the demon had thrown him down before them, he came out of him without having done him any harm.G2532G2424G2008G846G3004G5392G2532G1831G1537G846G2532G1140G4496G846G1519G3319G1831G575G846G984G846G3367 36They were all amazed and kept saying to one another, "What kind of utterance is this? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and out they come!"G2532G1096G1909G3956G2285G2532G4814G4314G240G3004G5101G3056G3778G3754G1722G1849G2532G1411G2004G169G4151G2532G1831 37And a report about him began to reach every place in the region.G2532G2279G4012G846G1607G1519G3956G5117G4066

Healings at Simon’s House

38After leaving the synagogue he entered Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him about her.G1161G450G1537G4864G1525G1519G4613G3614G1161G4613G3994G2258G4912G3173G4446G2532G2065G846G4012G846 39Then he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her.
