4THEN JESUS, full of {and} controlled by the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led in [by] the [Holy] SpiritG1161G2424G4134G40G4151G5290G575G2446G2532G71G1722G4151G1519G2048 2For (during) forty days in the wilderness (desert), where He was tempted (tried, tested exceedingly) by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, He was hungry.G3985G5062G2250G3985G5259G1228G2532G1722G1565G2250G5315G3756G3762G2532G846G4931G5305G3983 3Then the devil said to Him, If You are the Son of God, order this stone to turn into a loaf [of bread].G2532G1228G2036G846G1487G1488G5207G2316G2036G5129G3037G2443G1096G740 4And Jesus replied to him, It is written, Man shall not live {and} be sustained by (on) bread alone {but by every word and expression of God.}G2532G2424G611G4314G846G3004G1125G3754G444G2198G3756G2198G1909G740G3441G235G1909G3956G4487G2316 5Then the devil took Him up to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the habitable world in a moment of time [in the twinkling of an eye].G2532G1228G321G846G321G1519G5308G3735G1166G846G3956G932G3625G1722G4743G5550 6And he said to Him, To You I will give all this power {and} authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.G2532G1228G2036G846G537G5026G1849G1325G4671G2532G1391G846G3754G3860G1698G2532G3739G1437G2309G1325G846 7Therefore if You will do homage to {and} worship me [just once], it shall all be Yours.G1437G4771G3767G4352G1799G3450G3956G2071G4675 8And Jesus replied to him, {Get behind Me, Satan!} It is written, You shall do homage to {and} worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G5217G3694G3450G4567G1063G1125G4352G2962G4675G2316G2532G846G3441G3000 9Then he took Him to Jerusalem and set Him on a gable of the temple, and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, cast Yourself down from here;G2532G71G846G1519G2419G2532G2476G846G1909G4419G2411G2532G2036G846G1487G1488G5207G2316G906G4572G2736G1782 10For it is written, He will give His angels charge over you to guard {and} watch over you closely {and} carefully;G1063G3754G1125G1781G846G32G1781G4012G4675G1314G4571 11And on their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.G2532G3754G1909G5495G142G4571G142G3379G4350G4675G4228G4314G3037 12And Jesus replied to him, [The Scripture] says, You shall not tempt (try, test exceedingly) the Lord your God.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G3754G2046G1598G3756G1598G2962G4675G2316 13And when the devil had ended every [the complete cycle of] temptation, he [temporarily] left Him [that is, stood off from Him] until another more opportune {and} favorable time.G2532G1228G4931G3956G3986G868G575G846G891G2540 14Then Jesus went back full of {and} under the power of the [Holy] Spirit into Galilee, and the fame of Him spread through the whole region round about.G2532G2424G5290G1722G1411G4151G1519G1056G2532G1831G5345G4012G846G2596G3650G4066 15And He Himself conducted [a course of] teaching in their synagogues, being recognized {and} honored {and} praised by all.G2532G846G1321G1722G846G4864G1392G5259G3956 16So He came to Nazareth, [that Nazareth] where He had been brought up, and He entered the synagogue, as was His custom on the Sabbath day. And He stood up to read.G2532G2064G1519G3478G3757G2258G5142G2532G2596G846G1486G2596G1525G1519G4864G1722G4521G2250G2532G450G314 17And there was handed to Him [the roll of] the book of the prophet Isaiah. He opened (unrolled) the book and found the place where it was written,G2532G1929G846G975G4396G2268G2532G380G975G2147G5117G3757G2258G1125 18The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity],G4151G2962G1909G1691G1752G5548G3165G2097G4434G649G3165G2390G4937G2588G2784G859G164G2532G309G5185G649G1722G859G2352 19To proclaim the accepted {and} acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound].G2784G1184G1763G2962 20Then He rolled up the book and gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing [attentively] at Him.G2532G4428G975G591G5257G2523G2532G3788G3956G2258G1722G4864G816G846 21And He began to speak to them: Today this Scripture has been fulfilled while you are present {and} hearing.G1161G756G3004G4314G846G3754G4594G4137G3778G1124G4137G1722G5216G3775 22And all spoke well of Him and marveled at the words of grace that came forth from His mouth; and they said, Is not this Joseph's Son?G2532G3956G3140G846G3140G2532G2296G1909G5485G3056G3588G1607G1537G846G4750G2532G3004G2076G3756G3778G2501G5207 23So He said to them, You will doubtless quote to Me this proverb: Physician, heal Yourself! What we have learned by hearsay that You did in Capernaum, do here also in Your [own] town.G2532G2036G4314G846G2046G3843G2046G3427G5026G3850G2395G2323G4572G3745G191G1096G1722G2584G4160G2532G5602G1722G4675G3968 24Then He said, Solemnly I say to you, no prophet is acceptable {and} welcome in his [own] town (country).G1161G2036G281G3004G5213G3754G3762G4396G2076G1184G1722G846G3968 25But in truth I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were closed up for three years and six months, so that there came a great famine over all the land;G1161G3004G5213G1909G225G4183G5503G2258G1722G2474G1722G2250G2243G3753G3772G2808G1909G5140G2094G2532G1803G3376G5613G3173G3042G1096G1909G3956G1093 26And yet Elijah was not sent to a single one of them, but only to Zarephath in the country of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. [I Kings 17:1, 8-16; 18:1.]G2532G4314G3762G846G3992G2243G3992G1508G1519G4558G4605G4314G1135G5503 27And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and yet not one of them was cleansed [by being healed]--but only Naaman the Syrian. [II Kings 5:1-14.]G2532G4183G3015G2258G1722G2474G1909G1666G4396G2532G3762G846G2511G1508G3497G4948 28When they heard these things, all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage.G2532G3956G1722G4864G191G5023G4130G2372 29And rising up, they pushed {and} drove Him out of the town, and [laying hold of Him] they led Him to the [projecting] upper part of the hill on which their town was built, that they might hurl Him headlong down [over the cliff].G2532G450G1544G846G1854G4172G2532G71G846G2193G3790G3735G1909G3739G846G4172G3618G1519G2630G846G2630 30But passing through their midst, He went on His way.G1161G846G1330G1223G3319G846G4198 31And He descended to Capernaum, a town of Galilee, and there He continued to teach the people on the Sabbath days.G2532G2718G1519G2584G4172G1056G2532G1321G846G2258G1722G4521 32And they were amazed at His teaching, for His word was with authority {and} ability {and} weight {and} power.G2532G1605G1909G846G1322G3754G846G3056G2258G1722G1849 33Now in the synagogue there was a man who was possessed by the foul spirit of a demon; and he cried out with a loud (deep, terrible) cry,G2532G1722G4864G2258G444G2192G4151G169G1140G2532G349G3173G5456 34Ah, {let us alone!} What have You to do with us [What have we in common], Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know Who You are--the Holy One of God!G3004G1436G5101G2254G4671G2532G2424G3479G2064G622G2248G1492G4571G5101G1488G40G2316 35But Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent (muzzled, gagged), and come out of him! And when the demon had thrown the man down in their midst, he came out of him without injuring him in any possible way.G2532G2424G2008G846G3004G5392G2532G1831G1537G846G2532G1140G4496G846G1519G3319G1831G575G846G984G846G3367 36And they were all amazed and said to one another, What kind of talk is this? For with authority and power He commands the foul spirits and they come out!G2532G1096G1909G3956G2285G2532G4814G4314G240G3004G5101G3056G3778G3754G1722G1849G2532G1411G2004G169G4151G2532G1831 37And a rumor about Him spread into every place in the surrounding country.G2532G2279G4012G846G1607G1519G3956G5117G4066 38Then He arose and left the synagogue and went into Simon's (Peter's) house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering in the grip of a burning fever, and they pleaded with Him for her.G1161G450G1537G4864G1525G1519G4613G3614G1161G4613G3994G2258G4912G3173G4446G2532G2065G846G4012G846 39And standing over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and immediately she got up and began waiting on them.G2532G2186G1883G846G2008G4446G2532G863G846G3916G450G1161G1247G846 40Now at the setting of the sun [indicating the end of the Sabbath], all those who had any [who were] sick with various diseases brought them to Him, and He laid His hands upon every one of them and cured them.G1161G2246G1416G3956G3745G2192G770G4164G3554G71G846G4314G846G1161G2007G5495G2007G1538G1520G846G2323G846 41And demons even came out of many people, screaming {and} crying out, You are the Son of God! But He rebuked them and would not permit them to speak, because they knew that He was the Christ (the Messiah).G1161G1140G2532G1831G575G4183G2896G2532G3004G3754G4771G1488G5547G5207G2316G2532G2008G1439G846G3756G2980G3754G1492G846G1511G5547 42And when daybreak came, He left [Peter's house] and went into an isolated [desert] place. And the people looked for Him until they came up to Him and tried to prevent Him from leaving them.G1161G1096G2250G1831G4198G1519G2048G5117G2532G3793G2212G846G2532G2064G2193G846G2532G2722G846G3361G4198G575G846 43But He said to them, I must preach the good news (the Gospel) of the kingdom of God to the other cities [and towns] also, for I was sent for this [purpose].G1161G2036G4314G846G3754G3165G1163G2097G932G2316G2087G4172G2532G3754G1519G5124G649 44And He continued to preach in the synagogues of Galilee.G2532G2258G2784G1722G4864G1056
