The Temptation of Jesus

4Then Jesus returned from the Jordan, full of the Holy Spirit, and was led by the Spirit in the wildernessG1161G2424G4134G40G4151G5290G575G2446G2532G71G1722G4151G1519G2048
2for 40 days to be tempted by the Devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over, He was hungry.G3985G5062G2250G3985G5259G1228G2532G1722G1565G2250G5315G3756G3762G2532G846G4931G5305G3983
3The Devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread."G2532G1228G2036G846G1487G1488G5207G2316G2036G5129G3037G2443G1096G740
4But Jesus answered him, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone."G2532G2424G611G4314G846G3004G1125G3754G444G2198G3756G2198G1909G740G3441G235G1909G3956G4487G2316
5So he took Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.G2532G1228G321G846G321G1519G5308G3735G1166G846G3956G932G3625G1722G4743G5550
6The Devil said to Him, "I will give You their splendor and all this authority, because it has been given over to me, and I can give it to anyone I want.G2532G1228G2036G846G537G5026G1849G1325G4671G2532G1391G846G3754G3860G1698G2532G3739G1437G2309G1325G846
7If You, then, will worship me, all will be Yours."G1437G4771G3767G4352G1799G3450G3956G2071G4675
8And Jesus answered him, "It is written: Worship the Lord your God, and Him serve Him only."G2532G2424G611G2036G846G5217G3694G3450G4567G1063G1125G4352G2962G4675G2316G2532G846G3441G3000
9So he took Him to Jerusalem, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here.G2532G71G846G1519G2419G2532G2476G846G1909G4419G2411G2532G2036G846G1487G1488G5207G2316G906G4572G2736G1782
10For it is written: He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you,G1063G3754G1125G1781G846G32G1781G4012G4675G1314G4571
11and they will support you with their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone."G2532G3754G1909G5495G142G4571G142G3379G4350G4675G4228G4314G3037
12And Jesus answered him, "It is said: Do not test the Lord your God."G2532G2424G611G2036G846G3754G2046G1598G3756G1598G2962G4675G2316
13After the Devil had finished every temptation, he departed from Him for a time.G2532G1228G4931G3956G3986G868G575G846G891G2540

Ministry in Galilee

14Then Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread throughout the entire vicinity.G2532G2424G5290G1722G1411G4151G1519G1056G2532G1831G5345G4012G846G2596G3650G4066
15He was teaching in their synagogues, being acclaimed by everyone.G2532G846G1321G1722G846G4864G1392G5259G3956

Rejection at Nazareth

16He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. As usual, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read.G2532G2064G1519G3478G3757G2258G5142G2532G2596G846G1486G2596G1525G1519G4864G1722G4521G2250G2532G450G314
17The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him, and unrolling the scroll, He found the place where it was written:G2532G1929G846G975G4396G2268G2532G380G975G2147G5117G3757G2258G1125
18The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed,G4151G2962G1909G1691G1752G5548G3165G2097G4434G649G3165G2390G4937G2588G2784G859G164G2532G309G5185G649G1722G859G2352
19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.G2784G1184G1763G2962
20He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on Him.G2532G4428G975G591G5257G2523G2532G3788G3956G2258G1722G4864G816G846
21He began by saying to them, "Today as you listen, this Scripture has been fulfilled."G1161G756G3004G4314G846G3754G4594G4137G3778G1124G4137G1722G5216G3775
22They were all speaking well of Him and were amazed by the gracious words that came from His mouth, yet they said, "Isn't this Joseph's son?"G2532G3956G3140G846G3140G2532G2296G1909G5485G3056G3588G1607G1537G846G4750G2532G3004G2076G3756G3778G2501G5207
23Then He said to them, "No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me: 'Doctor, heal yourself.' 'All we've heard that took place in Capernaum, do here in Your hometown also.'"G2532G2036G4314G846G2046G3843G2046G3427G5026G3850G2395G2323G4572G3745G191G1096G1722G2584G4160G2532G5602G1722G4675G3968
24He also said, "I assure you: No prophet is accepted in his hometown.G1161G2036G281G3004G5213G3754G3762G4396G2076G1184G1722G846G3968
25But I say to you, there were certainly many widows in Israel in Elijah's days, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months while a great famine came over all the land.G1161G3004G5213G1909G225G4183G5503G2258G1722G2474G1722G2250G2243G3753G3772G2808G1909G5140G2094G2532G1803G3376G5613G3173G3042G1096G1909G3956G1093
26Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them— but to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon.G2532G4314G3762G846G3992G2243G3992G1508G1519G4558G4605G4314G1135G5503
27And in the prophet Elisha's time, there were many in Israel who had serious skin diseases, yet not one of them was healed— only Naaman the Syrian."G2532G4183G3015G2258G1722G2474G1909G1666G4396G2532G3762G846G2511G1508G3497G4948
28When they heard this, everyone in the synagogue was enraged.G2532G3956G1722G4864G191G5023G4130G2372
29They got up, drove Him out of town, and brought Him to the edge of the hill their town was built on, intending to hurl Him over the cliff.G2532G450G1544G846G1854G4172G2532G71G846G2193G3790G3735G1909G3739G846G4172G3618G1519G2630G846G2630
30But He passed right through the crowd and went on His way.G1161G846G1330G1223G3319G846G4198

Driving Out an Unclean Spirit

31Then He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and was teaching them on the Sabbath.G2532G2718G1519G2584G4172G1056G2532G1321G846G2258G1722G4521
32They were astonished at His teaching because His message had authority.G2532G1605G1909G846G1322G3754G846G3056G2258G1722G1849
33In the synagogue there was a man with an unclean demonic spirit who cried out with a loud voice,G2532G1722G4864G2258G444G2192G4151G169G1140G2532G349G3173G5456
34"Leave us alone! What do You have to do with us, Jesus— Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are— the Holy One of God!"G3004G1436G5101G2254G4671G2532G2424G3479G2064G622G2248G1492G4571G5101G1488G40G2316
35But Jesus rebuked him and said, "Be quiet and come out of him!" And throwing him down before them, the demon came out of him without hurting him at all.G2532G2424G2008G846G3004G5392G2532G1831G1537G846G2532G1140G4496G846G1519G3319G1831G575G846G984G846G3367
36They were all struck with amazement and kept saying to one another, "What is this message? For He commands the unclean spirits with authority and power, and they come out!"G2532G1096G1909G3956G2285G2532G4814G4314G240G3004G5101G3056G3778G3754G1722G1849G2532G1411G2004G169G4151G2532G1831
37And news about Him began to go out to every place in the vicinity.G2532G2279G4012G846G1607G1519G3956G5117G4066

Healings at Capernaum

38After He left the synagogue, He entered Simon's house. Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Him about her.G1161G450G1537G4864G1525G1519G4613G3614G1161G4613G3994G2258G4912G3173G4446G2532G2065G846G4012G846
39So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and began to serve them.G2532G2186G1883G846G2008G4446G2532G863G846G3916G450G1161G1247G846
40When the sun was setting, all those who had anyone sick with various diseases brought them to Him. As He laid His hands on each one of them, He would heal them.G1161G2246G1416G3956G3745G2192G770G4164G3554G71G846G4314G846G1161G2007G5495G2007G1538G1520G846G2323G846
41Also, demons were coming out of many, shouting and saying, "You are the Son of God!" But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Messiah.G1161G1140G2532G1831G575G4183G2896G2532G3004G3754G4771G1488G5547G5207G2316G2532G2008G1439G846G3756G2980G3754G1492G846G1511G5547

Preaching in Galilee

42When it was day, He went out and made His way to a deserted place. But the crowds were searching for Him. They came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving them.G1161G1096G2250G1831G4198G1519G2048G5117G2532G3793G2212G846G2532G2064G2193G846G2532G2722G846G3361G4198G575G846
43But He said to them, "I must proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because I was sent for this purpose."G1161G2036G4314G846G3754G3165G1163G2097G932G2316G2087G4172G2532G3754G1519G5124G649
44And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.G2532G2258G2784G1722G4864G1056
