Teaching about Divorce

10Then Jesus left that place and went into the territory of Judea on the other side of the Jordan. Crowds gathered around him as usual, and he began to teach them again as was his custom.G2547G450G2547G2064G1519G3725G2449G1223G4008G2446G2532G3793G4848G4314G846G3825G2532G5613G1486G1321G846G3825 2Some Pharisees came to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"G2532G5330G4334G1905G846G1487G1832G435G630G1135G3985G846 3He answered them, "What did Moses command you?"G1161G611G2036G846G5101G3475G1781G5213 4They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to divorce her."G1161G2036G3475G2010G1125G975G647G2532G630 5But Jesus said to them, "It was because of your hardness of heart that he wrote this command for you.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G4314G4641G5216G4641G1125G5213G5026G1785 6But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.'G1161G575G746G2937G2316G4160G846G730G2532G2338 7'That is why a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife,G1752G5127G2641G444G2641G846G3962G2532G3384G2532G4347G4314G846G1135 8and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh.G2532G1417G2071G1519G3391G4561G5620G1526G3765G1417G235G3391G4561 9Therefore, what God has joined together, man must never separate."G3739G3767G2316G4801G5563G3361G444G5563 10Back in the house, the disciples asked him about this again.G2532G1722G3614G846G3101G1905G846G3825G4012G846 11So he said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.G2532G3004G846G3739G1437G630G846G1135G2532G1060G243G3429G1909G846 12And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."11G2532G1437G1135G630G846G435G2532G1060G243G3429

Jesus Blesses the Little Children

13Some people were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.G2532G4374G3813G846G2443G680G846G1161G3101G2008G4374 14When Jesus saw this, he became furious and told them, "Let the little children come to me, and stop keeping them away, because the kingdom of God belongs to people like these.G1161G2424G1492G23G2532G2036G846G863G3813G2064G4314G3165G2532G2967G846G3361G1063G5108G2076G932G2316 15I tell you with certainty, whoever doesn't receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it."G281G3004G5213G3739G1209G3362G1209G932G2316G5613G3813G1525G3364G1525G1519G846 16Then after he had hugged the children, he tenderly blessed them as he laid his hands on them.G2532G1723G846G1723G5087G5495G1909G846G2127G846

A Rich Man Comes to Jesus

17As Jesus was setting out again, a man ran up to him, knelt down in front of him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"G2532G1607G1519G846G3598G4370G1520G4370G2532G1120G846G1905G846G18G1320G5101G4160G2443G2816G166G2222 18"Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked him. "Nobody is good except for one - God.G1161G2424G2036G846G5101G3004G3165G18G3762G18G1508G1520G2316 19You know the commandments: 'Never murder.' 'Never commit adultery.' 'Never steal.' 'Never give false testimony.' 'Never cheat.' 'Honor your father and mother.'"G1492G1785G3431G3361G3431G5407G3361G5407G2813G3361G2813G5576G3361G5576G650G3361G5091G4675G3962G2532G3384 20The man replied to him, "Teacher, I have obeyed all of these since I was a young man."G1161G611G2036G846G1320G3956G5023G5442G1537G3450G3503 21Jesus looked at him and loved him. Then he told him, "You're missing one thing. Go and sell everything you own, give the money to the destitute, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come back and follow me."G1161G2424G1689G846G25G846G2532G2036G846G1520G4671G5302G5217G4453G3745G2192G2532G1325G4434G2532G2192G2344G1722G3772G2532G1204G142G4716G190G3427 22Shocked at this statement, the man went away sad, because he had many possessions.G1161G4768G1909G3056G565G3076G1063G2192G2258G4183G2933

Salvation and Reward

23Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!"G2532G2424G4017G3004G846G3101G4459G1423G2192G5536G1525G1519G932G2316 24The disciples were startled by these words, but Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in their wealth to get into the kingdom of God!G1161G3101G2284G1909G846G3056G1161G2424G611G3825G3004G846G5043G4459G1422G2076G3982G1909G5536G1525G1519G932G2316 25It is easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into the kingdom of God."G2076G2123G2574G1525G1330G1223G5168G4476G2228G4145G1525G1519G932G2316 26The disciples were utterly amazed and asked one another, "Then who can be saved?"G1161G1605G4057G3004G4314G1438G2532G5101G1410G4982 27Jesus looked at them intently and said, "For humans it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God."G1161G2424G1689G846G3004G3844G444G102G235G3756G3844G2316G1063G3844G2316G3956G2076G1415 28Then Peter began to say to him, "See, we have left everything and followed you."G2532G4074G756G3004G846G2400G2249G863G3956G2532G190G4671 29Jesus said, "I tell you with certainty, there is no one who has left his home, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children, or fields because of me and the gospelG1161G2424G611G2036G281G3004G5213G2076G3762G3739G863G3614G2228G80G2228G79G2228G3962G2228G3384G2228G1135G2228G5043G2228G68G1700G1752G2532G2098 30who will not receive a hundred times as much here in this world - homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields, along with persecution - as well as eternal life in the age to come.G3362G2983G1542G3568G1722G5129G2540G3614G2532G80G2532G79G2532G3384G2532G5043G2532G68G3326G1375G2532G1722G165G2064G166G2222 31But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first."G1161G4183G4413G2071G2078G2532G2078G4413

Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection a Third Time

32Now Jesus and his disciples had been on the road going up to Jerusalem, with Jesus walking ahead of them. They were astonished, and the others who followed were afraid. Once again, Jesus took the twelve disciples aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to him.G1161G2258G1722G3598G305G1519G2414G2532G2424G2258G4254G846G2532G2284G2532G190G5399G2532G3880G3825G1427G756G3004G846G3195G4819G846 33"See, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the high priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the gentiles,G3754G2400G305G1519G2414G2532G5207G444G3860G749G2532G1122G2532G2632G846G2288G2532G3860G846G1484 34and they will make fun of him, spit on him, whip him, and kill him. But after three days he will be raised."G2532G1702G846G2532G3146G846G2532G1716G846G2532G615G846G2532G5154G2250G450

The Request of James and John

Can you drink from the cup that I'm going to drink from or be baptized with the baptism with which I'm going to be baptized?"G1161G2424G2036G846G1492G3756G5101G154G1410G4095G4221G3739G1473G4095G2532G907G908G3739G1473G907 39They told him, "We can." Jesus said to them, "You will drink from the cup that I'm going to drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I'm going to be baptized.G1161G2036G846G1410G1161G2424G2036G846G4095G3303G4095G4221G3739G1473G4095G2532G908G3739G1473G907G907 40But it's not up to me to grant you a seat at my right or my left. Those positions have already been prepared for others."G1161G2523G1537G3450G1188G2532G1537G3450G2176G2076G3756G1699G1325G235G3739G2090 41When the ten other disciples heard this, they began to be furious with James and John.G2532G1176G191G756G23G4012G2385G2532G2491 42Jesus called his disciples and said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers among the gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors act like tyrants over them.G1161G2424G4341G846G3004G846G1492G3754G1380G757G1484G2634G846G2532G846G3173G2715G846 43That's not the way it should be among you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,G1161G3779G2071G3756G2071G1722G5213G235G3739G1437G2309G1096G3173G1722G5213G2071G5216G1249 44and whoever wants to be first among you must be a slave to everyone,G2532G3739G302G5216G2309G1096G4413G2071G1401G3956 45because even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people."1043G1063G2532G5207G444G2064G3756G1247G235G1247G2532G1325G846G5590G3083G473G4183

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

46Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus, his disciples, and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus) was sitting by the road.G2532G2064G1519G2410G2532G846G1607G575G2410G2532G846G3101G2532G2425G3793G5185G924G5207G5090G2521G3844G3598G4319 47When he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was there, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"G2532G191G3754G2076G2424G3480G756G2896G2532G3004G2424G5207G1138G1653G3165 48Many people sternly told him to be quiet, but he started shouting even louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"G2532G4183G2008G846G2443G4623G1161G2896G3123G4183G5207G1138G1653G3165 49So Jesus stopped and said, "Call him!" So they called the blind man and told him, "Have courage! Get up. He's calling you."G2532G2424G2476G2036G846G5455G2532G5455G5185G3004G846G2293G1453G5455G4571 50He threw off his coat, jumped up, and went to Jesus.G1161G577G846G2440G450G2064G4314G2424 51Then Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "Rabbouni, I want to see again."G2532G2424G611G3004G846G5101G2309G4160G4671G1161G5185G2036G846G4462G2443G308 52Jesus told him, "Go. Your faith has made you well." At once the man could see again, and he began to follow Jesus down the road.G1161G2424G2036G846G5217G4675G4102G4982G4571G4982G2532G2112G308G2532G190G2424G1722G3598
