The Question of Divorce

10He set out from there and went to the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Then crowds converged on Him again and, as He usually did, He began teaching them once more.G2547G450G2547G2064G1519G3725G2449G1223G4008G2446G2532G3793G4848G4314G846G3825G2532G5613G1486G1321G846G3825
2Some Pharisees approached Him to test Him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce [his] wife?"G2532G5330G4334G1905G846G1487G1832G435G630G1135G3985G846
3He replied to them, "What did Moses command you?"G1161G611G2036G846G5101G3475G1781G5213
4They said, "Moses permitted us to write divorce papers and send her away."G1161G2036G3475G2010G1125G975G647G2532G630
5But Jesus told them, "He wrote this commandment for you because of the hardness of your hearts.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G4314G4641G5216G4641G1125G5213G5026G1785
6But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female.G1161G575G746G2937G2316G4160G846G730G2532G2338
7For this reason a man will leave his father and mother [[ and be joined to his wife,]]G1752G5127G2641G444G2641G846G3962G2532G3384G2532G4347G4314G846G1135
8and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh.G2532G1417G2071G1519G3391G4561G5620G1526G3765G1417G235G3391G4561
9Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate."G3739G3767G2316G4801G5563G3361G444G5563
10Now in the house the disciples questioned Him again about this matter.G2532G1722G3614G846G3101G1905G846G3825G4012G846
11And He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.G2532G3004G846G3739G1437G630G846G1135G2532G1060G243G3429G1909G846
12Also, if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."G2532G1437G1135G630G846G435G2532G1060G243G3429

Blessing the Children

13Some people were bringing little children to Him so He might touch them, but His disciples rebuked them.G2532G4374G3813G846G2443G680G846G1161G3101G2008G4374
14When Jesus saw it, He was indignant and said to them, "Let the little children come to Me. Don't stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.G1161G2424G1492G23G2532G2036G846G863G3813G2064G4314G3165G2532G2967G846G3361G1063G5108G2076G932G2316
15I assure you: Whoever does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."G281G3004G5213G3739G1209G3362G1209G932G2316G5613G3813G1525G3364G1525G1519G846
16After taking them in His arms, He laid His hands on them and blessed them.G2532G1723G846G1723G5087G5495G1909G846G2127G846

The Rich Young Ruler

17As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"G2532G1607G1519G846G3598G4370G1520G4370G2532G1120G846G1905G846G18G1320G5101G4160G2443G2816G166G2222
18"Why do you call Me good?" Jesus asked him. "No one is good but One— God.G1161G2424G2036G846G5101G3004G3165G18G3762G18G1508G1520G2316
19You know the commandments: Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness; do not defraud; honor your father and mother."G1492G1785G3431G3361G3431G5407G3361G5407G2813G3361G2813G5576G3361G5576G650G3361G5091G4675G3962G2532G3384
20He said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all these from my youth."G1161G611G2036G846G1320G3956G5023G5442G1537G3450G3503
21Then, looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, "You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me."G1161G2424G1689G846G25G846G2532G2036G846G1520G4671G5302G5217G4453G3745G2192G2532G1325G4434G2532G2192G2344G1722G3772G2532G1204G142G4716G190G3427
22But he was stunned at this demand, and he went away grieving, because he had many possessions.G1161G4768G1909G3056G565G3076G1063G2192G2258G4183G2933

Possessions and the Kingdom

23Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!"G2532G2424G4017G3004G846G3101G4459G1423G2192G5536G1525G1519G932G2316
24But the disciples were astonished at His words. Again Jesus said to them, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!G1161G3101G2284G1909G846G3056G1161G2424G611G3825G3004G846G5043G4459G1422G2076G3982G1909G5536G1525G1519G932G2316
25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God."G2076G2123G2574G1525G1330G1223G5168G4476G2228G4145G1525G1519G932G2316
26So they were even more astonished, saying to one another, "Then who can be saved?"G1161G1605G4057G3004G4314G1438G2532G5101G1410G4982
27Looking at them, Jesus said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, because all things are possible with God."G1161G2424G1689G846G3004G3844G444G102G235G3756G3844G2316G1063G3844G2316G3956G2076G1415
28Peter began to tell Him, "Look, we have left everything and followed You."G2532G4074G756G3004G846G2400G2249G863G3956G2532G190G4671
29"I assure you," Jesus said, "there is no one who has left house, brothers or sisters, mother or father, children, or fields because of Me and the gospel,G1161G2424G611G2036G281G3004G5213G2076G3762G3739G863G3614G2228G80G2228G79G2228G3962G2228G3384G2228G1135G2228G5043G2228G68G1700G1752G2532G2098
30who will not receive 100 times more, now at this time— houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions— and eternal life in the age to come.G3362G2983G1542G3568G1722G5129G2540G3614G2532G80G2532G79G2532G3384G2532G5043G2532G68G3326G1375G2532G1722G165G2064G166G2222
31But many who are first will be last, and the last first."G1161G4183G4413G2071G2078G2532G2078G4413

The Third Prediction of His Death

32They were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. They were astonished, but those who followed Him were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, He began to tell them the things that would happen to Him.G1161G2258G1722G3598G305G1519G2414G2532G2424G2258G4254G846G2532G2284G2532G190G5399G2532G3880G3825G1427G756G3004G846G3195G4819G846
33"Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death. Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles,G3754G2400G305G1519G2414G2532G5207G444G3860G749G2532G1122G2532G2632G846G2288G2532G3860G846G1484
34and they will mock Him, spit on Him, flog Him, and kill Him, and He will rise after three days."G2532G1702G846G2532G3146G846G2532G1716G846G2532G615G846G2532G5154G2250G450

Suffering and Service

35Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached Him and said, "Teacher, we want You to do something for us if we ask You."G2532G2385G2532G2491G5207G2199G4365G846G3004G1320G2309G2443G4160G2254G3739G1437G154
36"What do you want Me to do for you?" He asked them.G1161G2036G846G5101G2309G3165G4160G5213
37They answered Him, "Allow us to sit at Your right and at Your left in Your glory."G1161G2036G846G1325G2254G2443G2523G1520G1537G4675G1188G2532G1520G1537G4675G2176G1722G4675G1391
38But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you're asking. Are you able to drink the cup I drink or to be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?"G1161G2424G2036G846G1492G3756G5101G154G1410G4095G4221G3739G1473G4095G2532G907G908G3739G1473G907
39"We are able," they told Him. Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with.G1161G2036G846G1410G1161G2424G2036G846G4095G3303G4095G4221G3739G1473G4095G2532G908G3739G1473G907G907
40But to sit at My right or left is not Mine to give; instead, it is for those it has been prepared for."G1161G2523G1537G3450G1188G2532G1537G3450G2176G2076G3756G1699G1325G235G3739G2090
41When the [other] 10 [disciples] heard this, they began to be indignant with James and John.G2532G1176G191G756G23G4012G2385G2532G2491
42Jesus called them over and said to them, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles dominate them, and their men of high positions exercise power over them.G1161G2424G4341G846G3004G846G1492G3754G1380G757G1484G2634G846G2532G846G3173G2715G846
43But it must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,G1161G3779G2071G3756G2071G1722G5213G235G3739G1437G2309G1096G3173G1722G5213G2071G5216G1249
44and whoever wants to be first among you must be a slave to all.G2532G3739G302G5216G2309G1096G4413G2071G1401G3956
45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life— a ransom for many."G1063G2532G5207G444G2064G3756G1247G235G1247G2532G1325G846G5590G3083G473G4183

A Blind Man Healed

46They came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.G2532G2064G1519G2410G2532G846G1607G575G2410G2532G846G3101G2532G2425G3793G5185G924G5207G5090G2521G3844G3598G4319
47When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, "Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me!"G2532G191G3754G2076G2424G3480G756G2896G2532G3004G2424G5207G1138G1653G3165
48Many people told him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more, "Have mercy on me, Son of David!"G2532G4183G2008G846G2443G4623G1161G2896G3123G4183G5207G1138G1653G3165
49Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man and said to him, "Have courage! Get up; He's calling for you."G2532G2424G2476G2036G846G5455G2532G5455G5185G3004G846G2293G1453G5455G4571
50He threw off his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.G1161G577G846G2440G450G2064G4314G2424
51Then Jesus answered him, "What do you want Me to do for you?" "Rabbouni," the blind man told Him, "I want to see!"G2532G2424G611G3004G846G5101G2309G4160G4671G1161G5185G2036G846G4462G2443G308
52"Go your way," Jesus told him. "Your faith has healed you." Immediately he could see and began to follow Him on the road.G1161G2424G2036G846G5217G4675G4102G4982G4571G4982G2532G2112G308G2532G190G2424G1722G3598
