The Parable of the Tenants in the Vineyard

12Then Jesus spoke to them in parables: "Once there was a man who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a hole for the wine press, and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to tenants and left home on a trip.G2532G756G3004G846G1722G3850G444G5452G290G2532G4060G5418G2532G3736G5276G2532G3618G4444G2532G1554G846G1554G1092G2532G589
2When the time came to gather the grapes, he sent a slave to the tenants to receive from them his share of the harvest.G2532G2540G649G4314G1092G1401G2443G2983G3844G1092G575G2590G290
3The tenants grabbed the slave, beat him, and sent him back without a thing.G1161G2983G1194G846G2532G649G2756
4Then the owner sent another slave; the tenants beat him over the head and treated him shamefully.G2532G3825G649G4314G846G243G1401G2548G3036G2775G2532G649G821
5The owner sent another slave, and they killed him; and they treated many others the same way, beating some and killing others.G2532G3825G649G243G2548G615G2532G4183G243G3303G1194G1161G615
6The only one left to send was the man's own dear son. Last of all, then, he sent his son to the tenants. 'I am sure they will respect my son,' he said.G2192G2089G3767G1520G5207G846G27G649G846G2532G2078G4314G846G3004G3754G1788G3450G5207
7But those tenants said to one another, 'This is the owner's son. Come on, let's kill him, and his property will be ours!'G1161G1565G1092G2036G4314G1438G3754G3778G2076G2818G1205G615G846G2532G2817G2071G2257
8So they grabbed the son and killed him and threw his body out of the vineyard.G2532G2983G846G615G2532G1544G1854G290
9"What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do?" asked Jesus. "He will come and kill those tenants and turn the vineyard over to others.G5101G4160G3767G2962G290G4160G2064G2532G622G1092G2532G1325G290G243
10Surely you have read this scripture? 'The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all.G314G3761G314G5026G1124G3037G3739G3618G593G3778G1096G1519G2776G1137
11This was done by the Lord; what a wonderful sight it is!' "G3778G1096G2962G1096G3844G2532G2076G2298G1722G2257G3788
12The Jewish leaders tried to arrest Jesus, because they knew that he had told this parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd, so they left him and went away.G2532G2212G2902G846G2532G5399G3793G1063G1097G3754G2036G3850G4314G846G2532G863G846G565

The Question about Paying Taxes

13Some Pharisees and some members of Herod's party were sent to Jesus to trap him with questions.G2532G649G4314G846G5100G5330G2532G2265G2443G64G846G3056
14They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know that you tell the truth, without worrying about what people think. You pay no attention to anyone's status, but teach the truth about God's will for people. Tell us, is it against our Law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor? Should we pay them or not?"G1161G2064G3004G846G1320G1492G3754G1488G227G2532G4671G3756G3199G4012G3762G1063G991G3756G1519G4383G444G235G1321G3598G2316G1909G225G1832G1325G2778G2541G2228G3756
15But Jesus saw through their trick and answered, "Why are you trying to trap me? Bring a silver coin, and let me see it."G1325G2228G3361G1325G1161G1492G846G5272G2036G846G5101G3985G3165G5342G3427G1220G2443G1492
16They brought him one, and he asked, "Whose face and name are these?" "The Emperor's," they answered.G1161G5342G2532G3004G846G5101G3778G1504G2532G1923G1161G2036G846G2541
17So Jesus said, "Well, then, pay to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and pay to God what belongs to God." And they were amazed at Jesus.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G591G2541G3588G2541G2532G2316G3588G2316G2532G2296G1909G846

The Question about Rising from Death

18Then some Sadducees, who say that people will not rise from death, came to Jesus and said,G2532G2064G4314G846G4523G3748G3004G1511G3361G386G2532G1905G846G3004
19"Teacher, Moses wrote this law for us: 'If a man dies and leaves a wife but no children, that man's brother must marry the widow so that they can have children who will be considered the dead man's children.'G1320G3475G1125G2254G3754G1437G5100G80G599G2532G2641G1135G2532G863G3361G5043G2443G846G80G2983G846G1135G2532G1817G4690G846G80
20Once there were seven brothers; the oldest got married and died without having children.G2258G2033G80G2532G4413G2983G1135G2532G599G863G3756G4690
21Then the second one married the woman, and he also died without having children. The same thing happened to the third brother,G2532G1208G2983G846G2532G599G2532G3761G863G846G4690G2532G5154G5615
22and then to the rest: all seven brothers married the woman and died without having children. Last of all, the woman died.G2532G2033G2983G846G2532G863G3756G4690G2078G3956G1135G599G2532
23Now, when all the dead rise to life on the day of resurrection, whose wife will she be? All seven of them had married her."G1722G386G3767G3752G450G5101G1135G2071G846G1063G2033G2192G846G1135
24Jesus answered them, "How wrong you are! And do you know why? It is because you don't know the Scriptures or God's power.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G4105G3756G1223G5124G4105G1492G3361G1124G3366G1411G2316
25For when the dead rise to life, they will be like the angels in heaven and will not marry.G1063G3752G450G1537G3498G3777G1060G3777G1061G235G1526G5613G32G3588G1722G3772
26Now, as for the dead being raised: haven't you ever read in the Book of Moses the passage about the burning bush? There it is written that God said to Moses, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'G1161G4012G3498G3754G1453G314G3756G314G1722G976G3475G5613G1909G942G2316G2036G846G3004G1473G2316G11G2532G2316G2464G2532G2316G2384
27He is the God of the living, not of the dead. You are completely wrong!"G2076G3756G2316G3498G235G2316G2198G5210G3767G4105G4183G4105

The Great Commandment

28A teacher of the Law was there who heard the discussion. He saw that Jesus had given the Sadducees a good answer, so he came to him with a question: "Which commandment is the most important of all?"G2532G1520G1122G4334G191G846G4802G1492G3754G611G846G2573G1905G846G4169G2076G4413G1785G3956
29Jesus replied, "The most important one is this: 'Listen, Israel! The Lord our God is the only Lord.G1161G2424G611G846G3754G4413G3956G1785G191G2474G2962G2257G2316G2076G1520G2962
30Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'G2532G25G2962G4675G2316G1537G3650G4675G2588G2532G1537G3650G4675G5590G2532G1537G3650G4675G1271G2532G1537G3650G4675G2479G3778G4413G1785
31The second most important commandment is this: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' There is no other commandment more important than these two."G2532G1208G3664G3778G846G25G4675G4139G5613G4572G2076G3756G243G1785G3187G5130
32The teacher of the Law said to Jesus, "Well done, Teacher! It is true, as you say, that only the Lord is God and that there is no other god but he.G2532G1122G2036G846G2573G1320G2036G1909G225G3754G2076G1520G2316G2532G2076G3756G243G4133G846
33And you must love God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your strength; and you must love your neighbor as you love yourself. It is more important to obey these two commandments than to offer on the altar animals and other sacrifices to God."G2532G25G846G1537G3650G2588G2532G1537G3650G4907G2532G1537G3650G5590G2532G1537G3650G2479G2532G25G4139G5613G1438G2076G4119G3956G3646G2532G2378
34Jesus noticed how wise his answer was, and so he told him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." After this nobody dared to ask Jesus any more questions.G2532G2424G1492G3754G846G611G3562G2036G846G1488G3756G3112G575G932G2316G2532G3762G3765G5111G1905G846

The Question about the Messiah

35As Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he asked the question, "How can the teachers of the Law say that the Messiah will be the descendant of David?G2532G2424G611G3004G1321G1722G2411G4459G3004G1122G3754G5547G2076G5207G1138
36The Holy Spirit inspired David to say: 'The Lord said to my Lord: Sit here at my right side until I put your enemies under your feet.'G1063G1138G846G2036G1722G40G4151G2962G2036G3450G2962G2521G1537G3450G1188G2193G302G5087G4675G2190G4675G5286G4228

Jesus Warns against the Teachers of the Law

37David himself called him 'Lord'; so how can the Messiah be David's descendant?" A large crowd was listening to Jesus gladly.G1138G3767G846G3004G846G2962G2532G4159G2076G846G5207G2532G4183G3793G191G846G2234
38As he taught them, he said, "Watch out for the teachers of the Law, who like to walk around in their long robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplace,G2532G3004G846G1722G846G1322G991G575G1122G3588G2309G4043G1722G4749G2532G783G1722G58
39who choose the reserved seats in the synagogues and the best places at feasts.G2532G4410G1722G4864G2532G4411G1722G1173
40They take advantage of widows and rob them of their homes, and then make a show of saying long prayers. Their punishment will be all the worse!"G2719G5503G3614G2532G4392G4336G3117G4336G3778G2983G4055G2917

The Widow’s Offering

41As Jesus sat near the Temple treasury, he watched the people as they dropped in their money. Many rich men dropped in a lot of money;G2532G2424G2523G2713G1049G2334G4459G3793G906G5475G1519G1049G2532G4183G4145G906G4183
42then a poor widow came along and dropped in two little copper coins, worth about a penny.G2532G2064G3391G4434G5503G906G1417G3016G3603G2835
43He called his disciples together and said to them, "I tell you that this poor widow put more in the offering box than all the others.G2532G4341G846G3101G3004G846G281G3004G5213G3754G3778G4434G5503G906G4119G906G3956G906G1519G1049
44For the others put in what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, put in all she had - -she gave all she had to live on."G1063G3956G906G1537G846G4052G1161G3778G846G1537G846G5304G906G3956G3745G2192G3650G846G979
