Mark 14
Holman Christian Standard Bible Help
14After two days it was the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a treacherous way to arrest and kill Him.G1161G1417G2250G2258G3957G2532G3326G106G2532G749G2532G1122G2212G4459G2902G846G1722G1388G615
2"Not during the festival," they said, "or there may be rioting among the people."G1161G3004G3361G1722G1859G3379G2071G2351G2992
3While He was in Bethany at the house of Simon who had a serious skin disease, as He was reclining at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of pure and expensive fragrant oil of nard. She broke the jar and poured it on His head.G2532G846G5607G1722G963G1722G3614G4613G3015G846G2621G2064G1135G2192G211G3464G3487G4101G4185G2532G4937G211G2708G2596G846G2776
4But some were expressing indignation to one another: "Why has this fragrant oil been wasted?G1161G2258G5100G23G4314G1438G2532G3004G1519G5101G1096G3778G684G3464G1096
5For this oil might have been sold for more than 300 denarii and given to the poor." And they began to scold her.G1063G5124G1410G4097G1883G5145G1220G2532G1325G4434G2532G1690G846
6Then Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a noble thing for Me.G1161G2424G2036G863G846G863G5101G2873G3930G846G2038G2570G2041G1519G1691
7You always have the poor with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have Me.G1063G2192G4434G3326G1438G3842G2532G3752G2309G1410G4160G846G2095G1161G1691G2192G3756G3842
8She has done what she could; she has anointed My body in advance for burial.G4160G3739G3778G846G2192G4301G3462G3450G4983G1519G1780
9I assure you: Wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her."G281G3004G5213G3699G302G5124G2098G2784G1519G3650G2889G2532G3739G3778G846G4160G2980G1519G3422G846
10Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to hand Him over to them.G2532G2455G2469G1520G1427G565G4314G749G2443G3860G846G846
11And when they heard this, they were glad and promised to give him silver. So he started looking for a good opportunity to betray Him.G1161G191G5463G2532G1861G1325G846G694G2532G2212G4459G2122G3860G846
12On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb, His disciples asked Him, "Where do You want us to go and prepare the Passover so You may eat it?"G2532G4413G2250G106G3753G2380G3957G846G3101G3004G846G4226G2309G565G2090G2443G5315G3957
13So He sent two of His disciples and told them, "Go into the city, and a man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him.G2532G649G1417G846G3101G2532G3004G846G5217G1519G4172G2532G528G5213G444G941G2765G5204G190G846
14Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house, 'The Teacher says, "Where is the guest room for Me to eat the Passover with My disciples?"'G2532G3699G1437G1525G2036G3617G3754G1320G3004G4226G2076G2646G3699G5315G3957G3326G3450G3101
15He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there."G2532G846G1166G5213G3173G508G4766G2092G1563G2090G2254
16So the disciples went out, entered the city, and found it just as He had told them, and they prepared the Passover.G2532G846G3101G1831G2532G2064G1519G4172G2532G2147G2531G2036G846G2532G2090G3957
17When evening came, He arrived with the Twelve.G2532G1096G3798G2064G3326G1427
18While they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, "I assure you: One of you will betray Me— one who is eating with Me!"G2532G846G345G2532G2068G2424G2036G281G3004G5213G3754G1520G1537G5216G3588G2068G3326G1700G3860G3165
19They began to be distressed and to say to Him one by one, "Surely not I?"G1161G756G3076G2532G3004G846G1527G3385G1473G2532G243G3385G1473
20He said to them, "[It is] one of the Twelve— the one who is dipping [bread] with Me in the bowl.G1161G611G2036G846G1520G1537G1427G1686G3326G1700G1519G5165
21For the Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born."G5207G444G3303G5217G2531G1125G4012G846G1161G3759G1565G444G1223G3739G5207G444G3860G2570G2258G1565G444G1487G846G1080G3756G1080
22As they were eating, He took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take [it]; this is My body."G2532G846G2068G2424G2983G740G2127G2806G2532G1325G846G2532G2036G2983G5315G5124G2076G3450G4983
23Then He took a cup, and after giving thanks, He gave it to them, and so they all drank from it.G2532G2983G4221G2168G1325G846G2532G3956G4095G1537G846
24He said to them, "This is My blood [that establishes] the covenant; it is shed for many.G2532G2036G846G5124G2076G3450G129G2537G1242G3588G1632G4012G4183
25I assure you: I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it in a new way in the kingdom of God."G281G3004G5213G3364G4095G3754G3765G1537G1081G288G2193G1565G2250G3752G4095G846G2537G1722G932G2316
26After singing psalms, they went out to the Mount of Olives.G2532G5214G1831G1519G3735G1636
27Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will run away, because it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.G2532G2424G3004G846G3754G3956G4624G1722G1722G1698G5026G3571G3754G1125G3960G4166G2532G4263G1287
28But after I have been resurrected, I will go ahead of you to Galilee."G235G3326G3165G1453G4254G5209G1519G1056
29Peter told Him, "Even if everyone runs away, I will certainly not!"G1161G4074G5346G846G2532G1487G3956G4624G235G3756G1473
30"I assure you," Jesus said to him, "today, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times!"G2532G2424G3004G846G281G3004G4671G3754G4594G1722G5026G3571G4250G2228G220G5455G1364G533G3165G5151
31But he kept insisting, "If I have to die with You, I will never deny You!" And they all said the same thing.G1161G3004G3123G1537G4053G1437G3165G1163G4880G4671G3364G533G4571G3364G5615G1161G2532G3004G3956
32Then they came to a place named Gethsemane, and He told His disciples, "Sit here while I pray."G2532G2064G1519G5564G3739G3686G1068G2532G3004G846G3101G2523G5602G2193G4336
33He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be deeply distressed and horrified.G2532G3880G3326G1438G4074G2532G2385G2532G2491G2532G756G1568G2532G85
34Then He said to them, "My soul is swallowed up in sorrow— to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake."G2532G3004G846G3450G5590G2076G4036G2193G2288G3306G5602G2532G1127
35Then He went a little farther, fell to the ground, and began to pray that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him.G2532G4281G3397G4098G1909G1093G2532G4336G2443G1487G2076G1415G5610G3928G575G846
36And He said, " Abba, Father! All things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will."G2532G3004G5G3962G3956G1415G4671G3911G5124G4221G575G1700G235G3756G5101G1473G2309G235G5101G4771
37Then He came and found them sleeping. "Simon, are you sleeping?" He asked Peter. "Couldn't you stay awake one hour?G2532G2064G2532G2147G846G2518G2532G3004G4074G4613G2518G2480G3756G1127G3391G5610
38Stay awake and pray so that you won't enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."G1127G2532G4336G3363G1525G1519G3986G4151G3303G4289G1161G4561G772
39Once again He went away and prayed, saying the same thing.G2532G3825G565G4336G2036G846G3056
40And He came again and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to Him.G2532G5290G2147G846G2518G3825G1063G846G3788G2258G916G2532G3756G1492G5101G611G846
41Then He came a third time and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. Look, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.G2532G2064G5154G2532G3004G846G2518G3063G2532G373G566G5610G2064G2400G5207G444G3860G1519G5495G268
42Get up; let's go! See— My betrayer is near."G1453G71G2400G3860G3165G1448
43While He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. With him was a mob, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.G2532G2112G846G2089G2980G3854G2455G1520G5607G1427G2532G3326G846G4183G3793G3326G3162G2532G3586G3844G749G2532G1122G2532G4245
44His betrayer had given them a signal. "The One I kiss," he said, "He's the One; arrest Him and take Him away under guard."G1161G3860G846G1325G846G4953G3004G3739G302G5368G846G2076G2902G846G2532G520G806
45So when he came, he went right up to Him and said, "Rabbi!"— and kissed Him.G2532G2064G4334G2112G846G3004G4461G4461G2532G2705G846
46Then they took hold of Him and arrested Him.G1161G1911G846G5495G1909G846G2532G2902G846
47And one of those who stood by drew his sword, struck the high priest's slave, and cut off his ear.G1161G5100G1520G3936G4685G3162G3817G1401G749G2532G851G846G5621
48But Jesus said to them, "Have you come out with swords and clubs, as though I were a criminal, to capture Me?G2532G2424G611G2036G846G1831G5613G1909G3027G3326G3162G2532G3586G4815G3165
49Every day I was among you, teaching in the temple complex, and you didn't arrest Me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled."G2252G2250G2596G4314G5209G1722G2411G1321G2532G2902G3165G3756G235G1124G2443G4137
50Then they all deserted Him and ran away.G2532G3956G863G846G5343
51Now a certain young man, having a linen cloth wrapped around his naked body, was following Him. They caught hold of him,G2532G190G846G1520G5100G3495G4616G4016G1909G1131G2532G3495G2902G846
52but he left the linen cloth behind and ran away naked.G1161G2641G4616G5343G575G846G1131
53They led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes convened.G2532G520G2424G520G4314G749G2532G846G4905G3956G749G2532G4245G2532G1122
54Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the high priest's courtyard. He was sitting with the temple police, warming himself by the fire.G2532G4074G190G846G3113G575G2193G2080G1519G833G749G2532G2258G4775G3326G5257G2532G2328G4314G5457
55The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but they could find none.G1161G749G2532G3650G4892G2212G3141G2596G2424G1519G2289G846G2289G2532G2147G3756
56For many were giving false testimony against Him, but the testimonies did not agree.G1063G4183G5576G2596G846G2532G3141G2258G2470G3756G2258
57Some stood up and were giving false testimony against Him, stating,G2532G450G5100G5576G2596G846G3004
58"We heard Him say, 'I will demolish this sanctuary made by [human] hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.'"G3754G2249G191G846G3004G3754G1473G2647G5126G3485G5499G2532G1223G5140G2250G3618G243G886
59Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.G2532G3761G3779G2470G846G3141G2258G2470
60Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, "Don't You have an answer to what these men are testifying against You?"G2532G749G450G1519G3319G1905G2424G3004G3756G611G3762G5101G3778G2649G4675
61But He kept silent and did not answer anything. Again the high priest questioned Him, "Are You the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?"G1161G4623G2532G611G3762G3825G749G1905G846G2532G3004G846G1488G4771G5547G5207G2128
62"I am," said Jesus, "and all of you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven."G1161G2424G2036G1473G1510G2532G3700G5207G444G2521G1537G1188G1411G2532G2064G3326G3507G3772
63Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "Why do we still need witnesses?G1161G749G1284G846G5509G3004G5101G5532G2192G2089G3144
64You have heard the blasphemy! What is your decision?" And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.G191G988G5101G5316G5213G1161G3956G2632G846G1511G1777G2288
65Then some began to spit on Him, to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, saying, "Prophesy!" Even the temple police took Him and slapped Him.G2532G5100G756G1716G846G2532G4028G846G4383G2532G2852G846G2532G3004G846G4395G2532G5257G906G846G4475
66While Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the high priest's servants came.G2532G4074G5607G2736G1722G833G2064G3391G3814G749
67When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, "You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus."G2532G1492G4074G2328G1689G846G3004G2532G4771G2532G2258G3326G2424G3479
68But he denied it: "I don't know or understand what you're talking about!" Then he went out to the entryway, and a rooster crowed.G1161G720G3004G1492G3756G3761G1987G5101G4771G3004G2532G1831G1854G1519G4259G2532G220G5455
69When the servant saw him again she began to tell those standing nearby, "This man is one of them!"G2532G3814G1492G846G3825G756G3004G3936G3754G3778G2076G1537G846
70But again he denied it. After a little while those standing there said to Peter again, "You certainly are one of them, since you're also a Galilean!"G1161G720G3825G2532G3397G3326G3936G3004G3825G4074G230G1488G1537G846G2532G1063G1488G1057G2532G4675G2981G3662
71Then he started to curse and to swear with an oath, "I don't know this man you're talking about!"G1161G756G332G2532G3660G3754G1492G3756G5126G444G3739G3004
72Immediately a rooster crowed a second time, and Peter remembered when Jesus had spoken the word to him, "Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times." When he thought about it, he began to weep.G2532G1537G1208G220G5455G2532G4074G363G4487G3739G2424G2036G846G3754G4250G220G5455G1364G533G3165G5151G2532G1911G2799
