The Plot against Jesus

14It was now two days before the Festival of Passover and Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the teachers of the Law were looking for a way to arrest Jesus secretly and put him to death.G1161G1417G2250G2258G3957G2532G3326G106G2532G749G2532G1122G2212G4459G2902G846G1722G1388G615
2"We must not do it during the festival," they said, "or the people might riot."G1161G3004G3361G1722G1859G3379G2071G2351G2992

Jesus Is Anointed at Bethany

3Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon, a man who had suffered from a dreaded skin disease. While Jesus was eating, a woman came in with an alabaster jar full of a very expensive perfume made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on Jesus' head.G2532G846G5607G1722G963G1722G3614G4613G3015G846G2621G2064G1135G2192G211G3464G3487G4101G4185G2532G4937G211G2708G2596G846G2776
4Some of the people there became angry and said to one another, "What was the use of wasting the perfume?G1161G2258G5100G23G4314G1438G2532G3004G1519G5101G1096G3778G684G3464G1096
5It could have been sold for more than three hundred silver coins and the money given to the poor!" And they criticized her harshly.G1063G5124G1410G4097G1883G5145G1220G2532G1325G4434G2532G1690G846
6But Jesus said, "Leave her alone! Why are you bothering her? She has done a fine and beautiful thing for me.G1161G2424G2036G863G846G863G5101G2873G3930G846G2038G2570G2041G1519G1691
7You will always have poor people with you, and any time you want to, you can help them. But you will not always have me.G1063G2192G4434G3326G1438G3842G2532G3752G2309G1410G4160G846G2095G1161G1691G2192G3756G3842
8She did what she could; she poured perfume on my body to prepare it ahead of time for burial.G4160G3739G3778G846G2192G4301G3462G3450G4983G1519G1780
9Now, I assure you that wherever the gospel is preached all over the world, what she has done will be told in memory of her."G281G3004G5213G3699G302G5124G2098G2784G1519G3650G2889G2532G3739G3778G846G4160G2980G1519G3422G846

Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus

10Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went off to the chief priests in order to betray Jesus to them.G2532G2455G2469G1520G1427G565G4314G749G2443G3860G846G846
11They were pleased to hear what he had to say, and promised to give him money. So Judas started looking for a good chance to hand Jesus over to them.G1161G191G5463G2532G1861G1325G846G694G2532G2212G4459G2122G3860G846

Jesus Eats the Passover Meal with His Disciples

12On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the day the lambs for the Passover meal were killed, Jesus' disciples asked him, "Where do you want us to go and get the Passover meal ready for you?"G2532G4413G2250G106G3753G2380G3957G846G3101G3004G846G4226G2309G565G2090G2443G5315G3957
13Then Jesus sent two of them with these instructions: "Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow himG2532G649G1417G846G3101G2532G3004G846G5217G1519G4172G2532G528G5213G444G941G2765G5204G190G846
14to the house he enters, and say to the owner of the house: 'The Teacher says, Where is the room where my disciples and I will eat the Passover meal?'G2532G3699G1437G1525G2036G3617G3754G1320G3004G4226G2076G2646G3699G5315G3957G3326G3450G3101
15Then he will show you a large upstairs room, fixed up and furnished, where you will get everything ready for us."G2532G846G1166G5213G3173G508G4766G2092G1563G2090G2254
16The disciples left, went to the city, and found everything just as Jesus had told them; and they prepared the Passover meal.G2532G846G3101G1831G2532G2064G1519G4172G2532G2147G2531G2036G846G2532G2090G3957
17When it was evening, Jesus came with the twelve disciples.G2532G1096G3798G2064G3326G1427
18While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, "I tell you that one of you will betray me - -one who is eating with me."G2532G846G345G2532G2068G2424G2036G281G3004G5213G3754G1520G1537G5216G3588G2068G3326G1700G3860G3165
19The disciples were upset and began to ask him, one after the other, "Surely you don't mean me, do you?"G1161G756G3076G2532G3004G846G1527G3385G1473G2532G243G3385G1473
20Jesus answered, "It will be one of you twelve, one who dips his bread in the dish with me.G1161G611G2036G846G1520G1537G1427G1686G3326G1700G1519G5165
21The Son of Man will die as the Scriptures say he will; but how terrible for that man who will betray the Son of Man! It would have been better for that man if he had never been born!"G5207G444G3303G5217G2531G1125G4012G846G1161G3759G1565G444G1223G3739G5207G444G3860G2570G2258G1565G444G1487G846G1080G3756G1080

The Lord’s Supper

22While they were eating, Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. "Take it," he said, "this is my body."G2532G846G2068G2424G2983G740G2127G2806G2532G1325G846G2532G2036G2983G5315G5124G2076G3450G4983
23Then he took a cup, gave thanks to God, and handed it to them; and they all drank from it.G2532G2983G4221G2168G1325G846G2532G3956G4095G1537G846
24Jesus said, "This is my blood which is poured out for many, my blood which seals God's covenant.G2532G2036G846G5124G2076G3450G129G2537G1242G3588G1632G4012G4183
25I tell you, I will never again drink this wine until the day I drink the new wine in the Kingdom of God."G281G3004G5213G3364G4095G3754G3765G1537G1081G288G2193G1565G2250G3752G4095G846G2537G1722G932G2316
26Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.G2532G5214G1831G1519G3735G1636

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

27Jesus said to them, "All of you will run away and leave me, for the scripture says, 'God will kill the shepherd, and the sheep will all be scattered.'G2532G2424G3004G846G3754G3956G4624G1722G1722G1698G5026G3571G3754G1125G3960G4166G2532G4263G1287
28But after I am raised to life, I will go to Galilee ahead of you."G235G3326G3165G1453G4254G5209G1519G1056
29Peter answered, "I will never leave you, even though all the rest do!"G1161G4074G5346G846G2532G1487G3956G4624G235G3756G1473
30Jesus said to Peter, "I tell you that before the rooster crows two times tonight, you will say three times that you do not know me."G2532G2424G3004G846G281G3004G4671G3754G4594G1722G5026G3571G4250G2228G220G5455G1364G533G3165G5151
31Peter answered even more strongly, "I will never say that, even if I have to die with you!" And all the other disciples said the same thing.G1161G3004G3123G1537G4053G1437G3165G1163G4880G4671G3364G533G4571G3364G5615G1161G2532G3004G3956

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

32They came to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, "Sit here while I pray."G2532G2064G1519G5564G3739G3686G1068G2532G3004G846G3101G2523G5602G2193G4336
33He took Peter, James, and John with him. Distress and anguish came over him,G2532G3880G3326G1438G4074G2532G2385G2532G2491G2532G756G1568G2532G85
34and he said to them, "The sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me. Stay here and keep watch."G2532G3004G846G3450G5590G2076G4036G2193G2288G3306G5602G2532G1127
35He went a little farther on, threw himself on the ground, and prayed that, if possible, he might not have to go through that time of suffering.G2532G4281G3397G4098G1909G1093G2532G4336G2443G1487G2076G1415G5610G3928G575G846
36"Father," he prayed, "my Father! All things are possible for you. Take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet not what I want, but what you want."G2532G3004G5G3962G3956G1415G4671G3911G5124G4221G575G1700G235G3756G5101G1473G2309G235G5101G4771
37Then he returned and found the three disciples asleep. He said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Weren't you able to stay awake for even one hour?"G2532G2064G2532G2147G846G2518G2532G3004G4074G4613G2518G2480G3756G1127G3391G5610
38And he said to them, "Keep watch, and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."G1127G2532G4336G3363G1525G1519G3986G4151G3303G4289G1161G4561G772
39He went away once more and prayed, saying the same words.G2532G3825G565G4336G2036G846G3056
40Then he came back to the disciples and found them asleep; they could not keep their eyes open. And they did not know what to say to him.G2532G5290G2147G846G2518G3825G1063G846G3788G2258G916G2532G3756G1492G5101G611G846
41When he came back the third time, he said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come! Look, the Son of Man is now being handed over to the power of sinners.G2532G2064G5154G2532G3004G846G2518G3063G2532G373G566G5610G2064G2400G5207G444G3860G1519G5495G268
42Get up, let us go. Look, here is the man who is betraying me!"G1453G71G2400G3860G3165G1448

The Arrest of Jesus

43Jesus was still speaking when Judas, one of the twelve disciples, arrived. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs and sent by the chief priests, the teachers of the Law, and the elders.G2532G2112G846G2089G2980G3854G2455G1520G5607G1427G2532G3326G846G4183G3793G3326G3162G2532G3586G3844G749G2532G1122G2532G4245
44The traitor had given the crowd a signal: "The man I kiss is the one you want. Arrest him and take him away under guard."G1161G3860G846G1325G846G4953G3004G3739G302G5368G846G2076G2902G846G2532G520G806
45As soon as Judas arrived, he went up to Jesus and said, "Teacher!" and kissed him.G2532G2064G4334G2112G846G3004G4461G4461G2532G2705G846
46So they arrested Jesus and held him tight.G1161G1911G846G5495G1909G846G2532G2902G846
47But one of those standing there drew his sword and struck at the High Priest's slave, cutting off his ear.G1161G5100G1520G3936G4685G3162G3817G1401G749G2532G851G846G5621
48Then Jesus spoke up and said to them, "Did you have to come with swords and clubs to capture me, as though I were an outlaw?G2532G2424G611G2036G846G1831G5613G1909G3027G3326G3162G2532G3586G4815G3165
49Day after day I was with you teaching in the Temple, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must come true."G2252G2250G2596G4314G5209G1722G2411G1321G2532G2902G3165G3756G235G1124G2443G4137
50Then all the disciples left him and ran away.G2532G3956G863G846G5343
51A certain young man, dressed only in a linen cloth, was following Jesus. They tried to arrest him,G2532G190G846G1520G5100G3495G4616G4016G1909G1131G2532G3495G2902G846
52but he ran away naked, leaving the cloth behind.G1161G2641G4616G5343G575G846G1131

Jesus before the Council

53Then Jesus was taken to the High Priest's house, where all the chief priests, the elders, and the teachers of the Law were gathering.G2532G520G2424G520G4314G749G2532G846G4905G3956G749G2532G4245G2532G1122
54Peter followed from a distance and went into the courtyard of the High Priest's house. There he sat down with the guards, keeping himself warm by the fire.G2532G4074G190G846G3113G575G2193G2080G1519G833G749G2532G2258G4775G3326G5257G2532G2328G4314G5457
55The chief priests and the whole Council tried to find some evidence against Jesus in order to put him to death, but they could not find any.G1161G749G2532G3650G4892G2212G3141G2596G2424G1519G2289G846G2289G2532G2147G3756
56Many witnesses told lies against Jesus, but their stories did not agree.G1063G4183G5576G2596G846G2532G3141G2258G2470G3756G2258
57Then some men stood up and told this lie against Jesus:G2532G450G5100G5576G2596G846G3004
58"We heard him say, 'I will tear down this Temple which men have made, and after three days I will build one that is not made by men.' "G3754G2249G191G846G3004G3754G1473G2647G5126G3485G5499G2532G1223G5140G2250G3618G243G886
59Not even they, however, could make their stories agree.G2532G3761G3779G2470G846G3141G2258G2470
60The High Priest stood up in front of them all and questioned Jesus, "Have you no answer to the accusation they bring against you?"G2532G749G450G1519G3319G1905G2424G3004G3756G611G3762G5101G3778G2649G4675
61But Jesus kept quiet and would not say a word. Again the High Priest questioned him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed God?"G1161G4623G2532G611G3762G3825G749G1905G846G2532G3004G846G1488G4771G5547G5207G2128
62"I am," answered Jesus, "and you will all see the Son of Man seated at the right side of the Almighty and coming with the clouds of heaven!"G1161G2424G2036G1473G1510G2532G3700G5207G444G2521G1537G1188G1411G2532G2064G3326G3507G3772
63The High Priest tore his robes and said, "We don't need any more witnesses!G1161G749G1284G846G5509G3004G5101G5532G2192G2089G3144
64You heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?" They all voted against him: he was guilty and should be put to death.G191G988G5101G5316G5213G1161G3956G2632G846G1511G1777G2288
65Some of them began to spit on Jesus, and they blindfolded him and hit him. "Guess who hit you!" they said. And the guards took him and slapped him.G2532G5100G756G1716G846G2532G4028G846G4383G2532G2852G846G2532G3004G846G4395G2532G5257G906G846G4475

Peter Denies Jesus

66Peter was still down in the courtyard when one of the High Priest's servant women came by.G2532G4074G5607G2736G1722G833G2064G3391G3814G749
67When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked straight at him and said, "You, too, were with Jesus of Nazareth."G2532G1492G4074G2328G1689G846G3004G2532G4771G2532G2258G3326G2424G3479
68But he denied it. "I don't know... I don't understand what you are talking about," he answered, and went out into the passageway. Just then a rooster crowed.G1161G720G3004G1492G3756G3761G1987G5101G4771G3004G2532G1831G1854G1519G4259G2532G220G5455
69The servant woman saw him there and began to repeat to the bystanders, "He is one of them!"G2532G3814G1492G846G3825G756G3004G3936G3754G3778G2076G1537G846
70But Peter denied it again. A little while later the bystanders accused Peter again, "You can't deny that you are one of them, because you, too, are from Galilee."G1161G720G3825G2532G3397G3326G3936G3004G3825G4074G230G1488G1537G846G2532G1063G1488G1057G2532G4675G2981G3662
71Then Peter said, "I swear that I am telling the truth! May God punish me if I am not! I do not know the man you are talking about!"G1161G756G332G2532G3660G3754G1492G3756G5126G444G3739G3004
72Just then a rooster crowed a second time, and Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, "Before the rooster crows two times, you will say three times that you do not know me." And he broke down and cried.G2532G1537G1208G220G5455G2532G4074G363G4487G3739G2424G2036G846G3754G4250G220G5455G1364G533G3165G5151G2532G1911G2799
